Caveolae are specialized lipid rafts that form flask-shaped invaginations of the plasma membrane. Many researches show that caveolae are involved in cell signaling and transport. Caveolin-1 is the major coat protein essential for the formation of caveolae. Recently, several reports indicated that the other caveolae-associated proteins, Cavins, are required for caveola formation and organization. It's worth noting that Cavin-1 could cooperate with Caveolin-1 to accommodate the structural integrity and function of caveolae. Here, we reviewed that the relationship between Cavins and Caveolins and explore the role of them in regulating caveolae.

AIM:To investigate the construction of oligonucleotide microarray specialized for pancreatic adenocarcinoma-associated genes and its preliminary application of detecting differential expressed genes in pancreatic cancer.METHODS:Pancreatic cancer related genes were purposely selected, and oligonucleotide microarray was prepared by spotting oligonucleotide probes on glass slides coated with APS-PDC.Labeled cDNA targets for hybridizations were synthesized by reverse transcription from total RNA in the presence of Cy5-dCTP and Cy3-dCTP,respectively.Hybridized microarray was scanned by Agilent laser scanner, and the aquired image was analyzed by Imagene3.0 software. The intensity ratios of Cy3 and Cy5 were calculated. To confirm the expression profiles of these genes, quantitative reverse transcription-PCR (QRT-PCR) was carried out for CDC25B and TUSC3 genes, and β-actin gene was taken as internal control. The product of PCR was quantitated by comparative Ct method.RESULTS:The signal of microarray hybridization was clear, and the images had a lower background and higher signal-noise ratio. In comparison with normal pancreas, twenty -four differentially expressed genes were identified which included seventeen up-regulated and seven down-regulated genes. The results of QRT-PCR demonstrated that the expressions of CDC25B and TUSC3 in pancreatic cancer were up-regulated and down-regulated respectively, which is consistent with microarray results.CONCLUSION:The oligonucleotide microarray specialized for pancreatic cancer is desirable for its specialty and sensitivity, which can simultaneously and parallelly detect multiple pancreatic cancer-associated genes.

Objective To evaluate the value of the short-segment nerve conduction studies (SSCSs, inching test) in the diagnosis and localization of cubital tunnel syndrome (CubTS).Methods The clinical and electrophysiologic data of 46 patients (92 limbs from 32 men and 14 women, aged from 19 to 59 years, with average age of 41.2 years) with CubTS were collected. The symptoms occurred in unilateral arm in 41 patients and bilateral arms in 5 patients, involving 35 left arms and 16 right arms.SSCSs were performed in both arms in all the 46 patients.Sixty ulnar nerves were studied in 30 healthy control subjects using SSCSs.Results The 51 symptomatic arms with CubTS were abnormal in long segment motor nerve conduction studies. There were 68 abnormal arms ( 51 symptomatic arms, 17 asymptomatic arms ) in SSCSs.The lesions were located 2 cm proximal to the elbow-the elbow segment ( AE2-E ) in 41 arms (44.6%),the elbow-2 cm distal to the elbow segment (E-BE2) in 23 arms (25%), 4 cm proximal to the elbow-2 cm proximal to the elbow segment (AE4-AE2) in 18 arms (19.6%), 6 cm proximal to the elbow-4 cm proximal to the elbow segment (AE6-AE4) in 9 arms (9.8%), 2 cm distal to the elbow-4 cm distal to the elbow segment (BE2-BE4) in 8 arms(8.6%) and 4 cm distal to the elbow-6 cm distal to the elbow segment (BE4-BE6) in 6 arms(6.5%),respectively.Conclusions SSCSs are more sensitive in detecting CubTS than the conventional long segment motor conduction studies.SSCSs could precisely localize the entrapment lesions in patients with CubTS ,might be a useful tool for the detection of ulnar mononeuropathy at the elbow, especially for diagnosing the patients with CubTS who have no clinical features or have a normal long segmental nerve conduction findings.

Chinese Journal of Gastroenterology 2017;22(5):292-296
Background: Gastrointestinal involvement of Henoch-Sch(o)nlein purpura (HSP) lacks specific clinical manifestations, which makes it difficult to be diagnosed and easy to misdiagnose.Aims: To analyze the clinical characteristics and outcome of gastrointestinal involved HSP across all ages and provide evidence for early diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 35 gastrointestinal involved HSP patients admitted to Shanghai Changzheng Hospital from Jan.2006 to Jan.2016.The clinical outcome was followed up by phone interview. Results: Of the 35 gastrointestinal involved HSP patients, 22 were male and 13 were female, with a mean age of disease onset at 33.6 years. The frequent disease onset seasons were winter and spring, and the most frequent precipitating events were eating foreign proteins and upper respiratory tract infection shortly before disease onset.Abdominal pain was the presenting manifestation in 35 patients (57.1%) and was most frequently at periumbilical area (42.9%), and 48.6% of the pain was of paroxysmal colicky pain. The abdominal signs were mild.Laboratory tests showed 57.1% of the patients had elevated leukocyte count and 25.0% had elevated serum IgA.Stomach, duodenum, rectum and colon were frequently involved endoscopically, and the endoscopic lesions included mucosal petechia, diffuse mucosal erythema, edema and erosion.Nonspecific inflammatory cells infiltration was demonstrated by biopsy pathology. The overall prognosis was good with a recurrence rate of 21.9%.Elevated serum fibrinogen degradation product (FDP) and D-dimer were found in all the recurrent patients at admission. Conclusions: Purpura rash usually appeared later than gastrointestinal symptoms in gastrointestinal involved HSP.Typical clinical manifestations and endoscopic appearances are helpful for early diagnosis and treatment.Elevated FDP and D-dimer might be the predictor of recurrence.
