Objective To investigate the prevalence and determinants of depressive symptoms among ‘empty-nest' and ‘non-empty-nest' elderly in four cities/provinces.Methods 4265 elderly aged 60 and over, were recruited with cluster sampling method in Shanghai,Heilongjiang,Guangdong and Shanxi province and interviewed, using the Geriatric Mental State Schedule and self-developed related questionnaire. Results ( 1 ) The prevalence of depressive symptoms for ‘empty-nest' elderly was (8.18%),significantly higher than that for ‘non-empty-nest' eldcrly (P=0.019) ; (2) the ‘empty-nest' elderly had a significantly higher proportion of the following factors:being male, married, with higher income ( ≥ 15 000 Yuan/year),living in city, with high education background, under employment etc.than the ‘non-empty-nest' elderly (P<0.0001) ; (3)the ‘empty-nest' elderly had significantly higher proportions on good self-rated health status and life (P=0.0001,P<0.0001 ) as well as heavier health problems and economic difficulties (P=0.00 1,P=0.002 ) ; (4) there were significantly negative associations between depressive symptoms and the following 10 factors:being female, single, having bad self-rated health and life status, having somatic disease ≥3,with big health problems in the last two years and loss of dearest persons, community engagement and involvement of religious activities. Conclusion The ‘empty-nest' elderly showed higher prevalence of having depressive symptoms than the ‘non-empty-nest' elderly. The ‘empty-nest' elderly had characteristics as being single, female, having adverse event etc.and should be under greater attention for care.

Objective To observe the effect of breathing exercise based on core strength training on nonspecific low back pain (NLBP). Methods From January to June, 2017, 60 patients with NLBP were randomly divided into control group (n=30) and ob-servation group (n=30). The control group accepted core strength training, and the observation group accepted breathing exercise in addition, for four weeks. They were assessed with Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Oswes-try Disability Index (ODI) before and after treatment, and their efficiency was compared. Results The scores of VAS decreased in both groups after treatment (t>4.173, P<0.001), and the scores of ODI de-creased in the observation group (t=3.875, P<0.01). The scores of both VAS and ODI were less in the observa-tion group than in the control group (t>2.595, P<0.05). The efficiency was better in the observation group than in the control group (χ2=3.874, P<0.05). Conclusion Breathing exercise based on core strength training can further improve function and relieve pain in patients with NLBP.

Objective To investigate the pathogenic characteristics of Shigella in infants from 2013 to 2017 in Henan Province. Methods From 2013 to 2017, 606 Shigella strains were isolated from 5 149 children with diarrhea under 5 years old in Henan Province. Serotyping, drug sensitivity test and Polymerase Chain Reaction detection of virulence gene methods were used to detect the pathogen of Shigella. Results The detection rate of Shigella in children with diarrhea was 11.77%, and the highest detection rate was in the 1-2 age group(24.08%). 606 Shigella strains were divided into two groups and 11 serotypes. Shigella flexneri accounted for 73.43%, and Shigella sonnei accounted for 26.57%. Resistance of 176 Shigella strains to ampicillin and naphthidine was serious (resistance rate > 90%), and the resistance rates to chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin and compound sulfamethoxamine were higher than 65%, and the sensitivity of imipenem and cephalosporin were higher. There were differences in drug resistance between Shigella flexneri and Shigella sonnei. The virulence genes of infants were mainly shET-1+, shET-2+, ipaH+ and ial+, and 5 avirulent strains were detected. Conclusions The bacterial dysentery of infants in Henan Province is dominated by Shigella flexneri. There are serious resistance and multidrug resistance to common antibiotics, and the dominant genes in different serotyping strains are different.

In the outbreak of COVID-19,triage procedures based on epidemiology were implemented in a local hospital in Changsha to control the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 and avoid healthcare-associated infection. This re-trospective study analyzed the data collected during the triage period and found that COVID-19 patients were en-riched 7 folds into the Section A designated for patients with obvious epidemiological history. On the other side, nearly triple amounts of visits were received at the Section B for patients without obvious epidemiological history.8 COVID-19 cases were spotted out of 247 suspected patients.More than 50%of the suspected patients were submi-tted to multiple rounds of nucleic acid analysis for SARS-CoV-2 infection.Of the 239 patients who were diagnosed as negative of the virus infection,188 were successfully revisited and none was reported as COVID-19 case.Of the 8 COVID-19 patients,3 were confirmed only after multiple rounds of nucleic acid analysis.Besides comorbidities, delayed sharing of epidemiological history added complexity to the diagnosis in practice. The triaging experience and strategy will be helpful for the control of infectious diseases in the future.

Herbal pair is formed based on the experience summary of doctors' deep understanding and perception of the medicinal nature in long-term clinical practice. It gradually becomes the exquisite structural unit for preparing traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) prescriptions, and often plays a core bridge role in the prescription combination. Frankincense and myrrh are raw resin materials of incense abroad, which are subsequently included as Chinese medicinal herbs and endowed with rich medicinal connotation. With the functions of relaxing Zang-fu organs, activating blood and relieving pain, they have definite clinical efficacy. From the perspective of herbal description and clinical application, this study systematically analyzed the combination of frankincense and myrrh as well as their combination proportion, efficacy characterization, diseases and syndromes, effective components and action mechanism. On this basis, the focus of in-depth research of frankincense-myrrh and the application prospects were proposed, in order to further reveal the potential meditation law of this herbal pair, thus contributing to clinical practice and drug innovation of traditional Chinese medicine, and providing reference for understanding of TCM medicinal nature and research of herbal pairs.
