2.Analyzing the infectious state of coxsackievirus B in hospitalized children

Objective: To understand the relationship between coxsackievirus B and pediatric diseases. Methods: The infectious state of coxsackievirus B in hospitalized children were studied. Among 796 children studied, there were 218 upper respiratory tract infection cases, 179 pneumonia, 106 asthma, 155 myocarditis, 19 allergic purpura and 89 other diseases. The antigen (CVB-Ag) and IgM (CVB-IgM) were detected using ELISA method. Results: (1)There were 47% positive of CVB in upper respiratory tract infection and 48% positive of CVB in pneumonia(no difference between them, P>0.05). (2) There were 62% positive of CVB in asthma, 61% positive of CVB in myocarditis and 68% positive of CVB in allergic purpura(no difference among them, P>0.05); But the positive rate of CVB in asthma, myocarditis and purpura were higher than in upper respiratory tract infection and pneumonia, (P<0.05). (3) There were lower positive rate of CVB in other kinds of diseases (16%) and in healthy children (3%)(no difference between them, P>0.05). Conclusion: CVB infection was related to several kinds of diseases, the relationship between CVB infection and diseases such as asthma, myocarditis, and allergic purpura should be further studied.
3.A factors study of root resorption after orthodontic treatment.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the factors relating to root resorption after orthodontic treatment.
METHODS96 cases treated with fixed appliances were selected. The panoramic radiographs before and after treatment were examined. The relationship between root resorption after treatment (RRAT) and the variables including sex, age, extraction or nonextraction approach, tooth location, treatment duration and the root resorption before treatment (RRBT) were analyzed by multiple variance analysis and stepwise multivariate linear regression analyses.
RESULTS(1) There were statistically significant differences in root resorption in relation to gender (estimate of RRAT for female: 0.41, that for male: 0.34), extraction (estimate of RRAT for the extraction group: 0.43, that for non-extraction: 0.31), anterior or posterior teeth (estimate of RRAT for the anterior teeth: 0.59, that for the posterior teeth: 0.12). (2) The estimate of RRAT for the upper teeth was 0.40, and that for the lower teeth was 0.37. There were no statistically significant differences. (3) Using multiple regression analysis, age, duration and RRBT were associated with RRAT (R = 0.59, R(2) = 0.35).
CONCLUSIONS(1) Factors including gender, extraction or not and anterior or posterior teeth have influences on the RRAT. More root resorption was found in female or extraction cases. Anterior teeth were more susceptible to root resorption relative to posterior teeth. (2) Age, treatment duration and RRBT can explain approximately 35% of the RRAT. Root resorption aggregated when it was present before treatment. The age and treatment duration were lightly related to the root resorption.

4.Non-extraction treatment with self-ligating and conventional brackets.

OBJECTIVETo compare the dental change and the mechanism after non-extraction treatment between passive self-ligating and conventional bracket systems.
METHODSTwenty-six non-extraction crowding cases were selected. Half of them were treated with Damon3 self-ligating brackets and the others were treated with conventional brackets. The results were compared. Stepwise regression analysis was performed for the two groups.
RESULTSThere were no statistically significant differences in the changes of the intercanine and interpremolar widths and L1-MP angle (P > 0.1). In the self-ligating bracket group, the intermolar width increased by 1.42 mm and the L1-APo increased by 2.66 mm. In the conventional appliance group, the intermolar width increased by 0.65 mm and L1-APo increased by 1.57 mm. The differences were statistically significant between the two groups (P < 0.1). Stepwise regression analysis showed that in self-ligating bracket group, the coefficient of determination for the changes of L1-MP was 96.6%.
CONCLUSIONSIn crowding cases treated with non-extraction, there were an overall increase in the proclination of the mandibular incisors and the arch width in both bracket groups. Compared with cases treated with conventional appliances, the cases treated with Damon3 brackets resulted in greater intermolar width increases; In Damon3 bracket group, the change of the lower incisor inclination was influenced not only by the mandibular crowding and the intermolar width before treatment but also by the patient's skeletal pattern and the changes of the arch width during treatment.

5.Comorbidities in patients with cerebral palsy and their relationship with neurologic subtypes and Gross Motor Function Classification System levels.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the comorbidities in patients with cerebral palsy (CP) from two perspectives as neurologic subtype and gross motor functions, and find their correlations.
METHODSChildren with cerebral palsy treated in the rehabilitation center from January 2007 to June 2009 received the following examinations: intelligence capacity test, ophthalmologic consultation, language-speech test, brainstem auditory evoked potential and electroencephalogram. They were stratified according to both neurologic subtype and gross motor functions to detect the occurrence of comorbidities.
RESULTSOf all the 354 cases, 166 (46.89%) had mental retardation, 15 (4.24%) auditory limitations, 138 (38.98%) visual disorder, 216 (61.02%) language-speech disorder and 82 (23.16%) epilepsy. The frequency of individual comorbidities were distributed disproportionately between the different neurologic subtypes. Correlation analysis showed that there was a significant correlation between the spastic diplegia and the visual disorder (correlation coefficient = 0.26), between spastic hemiplegia and epilepsy (correlation coefficient = 0.17), between spastic quadriplegia and epilepsy and mental retardation (the correlation coefficient was 0.38 and 0.11, respectively) and between both dyskinetic and mixed children and language-speech disorder (the correlation coefficient was 0.24 and 0.27, respectively). The frequency of individual comorbidities was distributed disproportionately between the different neurologic subtypes and between the different GMFCS levels (P < 0.05), except for the frequency of visual disorders (chi(2) = 1.90, P > 0.05); and with the increase of the GMFCS levels, the burden of the comorbidities were more heavy and the incidence of the comorbidities was higher. Multi-comorbidities were relatively infrequently encountered in those with spastic hemiplegic or spastic diplegic children or patients whose GMFCS levels were I-III, while these entities occurred at a frequent level for those with spastic quadriplegic, dyskinetic, or mixed or children whose GMFCS levels were IV and V, and the differences were significant (P < 0.05). The mean GMFCS levels of children with spastic quadriplegic, dyskinetic or mixed CP were higher than level III, most of them had no ability of ambulation;while the mean GMFCS levels of spastic hemiplegic or spastic diplegic children were below level III, most of them could walk independently.
CONCLUSIONSThere are correlations between the occurrence of the comorbidities such as mental retardation, auditory or visual impairments, language-speech disorders, epilepsy and the cerebral palsy subtype and the gross motor function levels. Clinicians should have a full recognition of these comorbidities, and we should have a cooperation between the different subjects to have an overall evaluation and rehabilitation and to improve the prognosis.

6.Three-dimensional changes in lip vermilion morphology of adult female patients after extraction and non-extraction orthodontic treatment

OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the three-dimensional lip vermilion changes after extraction and non-extraction orthodontic treatment in female adult patients and explore the correlation between lip vermilion changes and incisor changes.
METHODS:
Forty-seven young female adult patients were enrolled in this study (skeletal Class III patients were excluded), including 34 lip-protruding patients treated by extraction of four first premolars (18 patients requiring mini-implants for maximum anchorage control and 16 patients without mini-implants) and 13 patients requiring non-extraction treatment. Nine angles, seven distances, and the surface area of the lip vermilion were measured by using pre- and post-treatment three-dimensional facial scans. Linear and angular measurements of incisors were performed on lateral cephalograms.
RESULTS:
There were no significant changes in the vermilion measurements in the non-extraction group. The vermilion angle, vermilion height, central bow angle, height/width ratio, and vermilion surface area decreased significantly after the orthodontic treatment in the extraction groups, but the upper/lower vermilion proportion remained unchanged. Significant correlations were found between the changes in incisor position and those in vermilion angles, vermilion height, and surface area.
CONCLUSIONS
Extraction of the four first premolars probably produced an aesthetic improvement in lip vermilion morphology. However, the upper/lower vermilion proportion remained unchanged. The variations in the vermilion were closely related to incisor changes, especially the upper incisor inclination changes.
7.Status and drug resistance surveillance of enterococcus infection in patients with severe hepatitis.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the infection status and the drug resistance of enterococci in patients with severe hepatitis to guide future treatment.
METHODSAll bacteria from infected patients with severe hepatitis were cultured with BacT/Alert120 automation instrument (Aksu) and identified with Vitek-AMS60 (Biomerieux). Drug sensitivities of the isolated enterococci were tested with 11 antibacterial agents.
RESULTSAmong the 112 isolated enterococci, Enterococcus faecalis was the most preponderant bacterium, and the second was E. faecium. Their isolation rates were 79.5% and 14.3%, respectively. 57.1% of all the enterococci were found in the ascetic fluid of patients with severe hepatitis. Fifty-eight (51.8%) isolated enterococci were found to be high level aminoglycoside resistant (HLAR), 19 (17.0%) enterococci were ampicillin-resistant enterococcus (ARE) and 7 (6.3%) were both HLAR and ARE. The susceptive rates of the enterococci to vancomycin and teicoplanin were very high, namely 96.4% and 100%, respectively. No vancomycin or teicoplanin resistant enterococci were found, but 4 enterococci were mildly sensitive to vancomycin.
CONCLUSIONEnterococcus faecalis is the most prevalent species isolated in severe hepatitis patients infected with enterococcal infection. From our study, vancomycin and teicoplanin are the drugs of first choice to treat those infections.

8.Expression and significance of jumonji domain-containing protein 2B and hypoxia inducible factor-1α in non-Hodgkin lymphoma tissues in children.

OBJECTIVES:
To investigate the expression and significance of jumonji domain-containing protein 2B (JMJD2B) and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) tissues in children.
METHODS:
Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of JMJD2B and HIF-1α in lymph node tissue specimens from 46 children with NHL (observation group) and 24 children with reactive hyperplasia (control group). The relationship between JMJD2B and HIF-1α expression with clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis in children with NHL, as well as the correlation between JMJD2B and HIF-1α expression in NHL tissues, were analyzed.
RESULTS:
The positive expression rates of JMJD2B (87% vs 21%) and HIF-1α (83% vs 42%) in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). The expression of JMJD2B and HIF-1α was correlated with serum lactate dehydrogenase levels and the risk of international prognostic index in children with NHL (P<0.05). The expression of JMJD2B was positively correlated with the HIF-1α expression in children with NHL (rs=0.333, P=0.024).
CONCLUSIONS
JMJD2B and HIF-1α are upregulated in children with NHL, and they may play a synergistic role in the development of pediatric NHL. JMJD2B can serve as a novel indicator for auxiliary diagnosis, evaluation of the severity, treatment guidance, and prognosis assessment in pediatric NHL.

9.Inter- and intra-observer variability for the assessment of coronary artery tree description and lesion EvaluaTion (CatLet©) angiographic scoring system in patients with acute myocardial infarction.

BACKGROUND:
Previously, we developed a novel Coronary Artery Tree description and Lesion EvaluaTion (CatLet©) angiographic scoring system, which was capable of accounting for the variability in the coronary anatomy and assisting in the risk-stratification of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Our preliminary study revealed that the CatLet score better predicted clinical outcomes for AMI patients than the Synergy between Percutaneous Coronary Intervention with Taxus and Cardiac Surgery score. However, the reproducibility of the CatLet score in both inter- and intra-observer remains to be evaluated.
METHODS:
A total of 30 consecutive AMI patients, admitted in September of 2015, were independently assessed by two experienced interventional cardiologists to evaluate the inter-observer reproducibility of the CatLet score. Another set of 49 consecutive AMI patients, admitted between September and October in 2014, were assessed by one of the two interventional cardiologists on two occasions 3 months apart to evaluate the intra-observer reproducibility of the CatLet score. The weighted kappa was used to express the degree of agreement.
RESULTS:
The weighted kappa values (95% confidence interval) for the intra- and inter-observer reproducibility of the CatLet Score were 0.82 (0.59-1.00, Z = 7.23, P < 0.001) and 0.86 (0.54-1.00, Z = 5.20, P < 0.001), respectively, according to the tertile analysis (≤14, 15-22, >22). Regarding the adverse characteristics pertinent to lesions and dominance parameters, the kappa values for the inter-observer variability were 0.80 (0.56-1.00, Z = 6.47, P < 0.001) for total number of lesions, 0.57 (0.28-0.85, Z = 3.03, P < 0.001) for bifurcation, 0.69 (0.43-0.96, Z = 5.06, P < 0.001) for heavy calcification, 1.00 (0.72-1.00, Z = 6.93, P < 0.001) for tortuosity, 0.54 (0.26-0.82, Z = 3.78, P < 0.001) for thrombus, 0.69 (0.48-0.91, Z = 6.29, P < 0.001) for right coronary artery dominance, 0.69 (0.41-0.96, Z = 4.91, P < 0.001) for left anterior descending artery length, and 0.22 (0.06-0.51, Z = 1.56, P = 0.06) for diagonal size. Equivalent values for the intra-observer variability were moderate to almost perfect (range 0.54-1.00).
CONCLUSIONS
The reproducibility of the CatLet angiographic scoring system for evaluation of the coronary angiograms ranged from substantial to excellent. The high reproducibility of the CatLet angiographic scoring system will boost its clinical application to patients with AMI.

10.Automatic Framework Acquisition and Visualization Analysis of Ancient Chinese Medicine Literature Relating to Tumor

Objective:To obtain ancient traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)literatures relating to tumor and visual analysis by an automatic framework tool, in order to systematically sort out the development of ancient Chinese medicine oncology. Method:Based on the database platform of ancient TCM books,names of tumor-related diseases in ancient TCM books were retrieved by Selenium WebDriver, an automation framework tool under Python 3.8. Lxml's etree library was used to parse the data. Statistics was made for "classification", "authors", "completion time" and "summary" of relevant ancient books automatically. After the data was checked and processed, Tableau 2019.2 software was used for data visualization analysis. And ancient Chinese medicine literatures relating to tumor were consulted at the database manually,with the dynasties as the clue,and the symptoms,etiology,pathogenesis and prognosis as the emphasis,this paper explores the development process of TCM oncology. Result:A total of 774 349 bytes of text data of 1 128 entries in 242 ancient books were included automatically. According to the findings, there were simple classification and time distribution of tumor diseases in ancient TCM books in the pre-Qin period, with a simple view on the pathogenesis of tumor diseases. From the Han dynasty to the Tang dynasty, the number of relevant literature records and the types and disease names had gradually increased,which further enriched the cognition of tumor nature,signs,classification methods,differential diagnosis;in Song and Ming dynasties,the proportion of Chinese prescription books and surgery books had increased gradually,with the largest number of abdominal organ tumor names among all dynasties;from Qing dynasty to the Republic of China,literatures relating to tumor name and classification were the most improved,and then the TCM tumor syndrome differentiation and treatment system had been formed. Conclusion:It was found that TCM oncology originated in the pre-Qin dynasty,and was improved in the Han and Tang dynasties, mature in the Song and Ming dynasties and completed in the Qing dynasty and the Republic of China. The data visualization method with integrated automation framework and parsing tools is helpful to analyze the subdivision characteristics of ancient TCM literatures,which is convenient,efficient and innovative,in the expectation to provide a classic reference for contemporary TCM studies.
