Journal of Peking University(Health Sciences) 2004;0(03):-
Objective:To explore total hepatic ischemia-reperfusion(I/R)-induced lung injury in rats, its related mechanism and the protective effects of melatonin on lungs. Methods: This study was divided into 2 parts. In the first part,72 healthy male SD rats weighing 250-300 g were randomly divided into 2 groups: I/R group(ischemia-reperfusion,n=36) and sham-operation group(n=36).Total hepatic I/R was produced by occlusion of hepatic helium for 30 minutes, and the occlusion was then released for reperfusion. The animals were killed at 5 minutes prior to ischemia and 0 h,0.5 h,1 h,3 h and 6 h after reperfusion in sham-operation group and I/R group(n=6 at each time point),and the lung tissue was taken.Through comparisons of these two groups,we observed the dynamic changes of lung tissue after total hepatic I/R.In the second part,12 healthy male SD rats weighing 250-300 g were randomly divided into 2 groups: melatonin group(n=6) and vehicle group(n=6).Melatonin(0.5%,10 mg/kg)or vehicle of the same volume was injected via femoral vein 15 min before ischemia and 10 min before reperfusion, the animals were killed at 1 h after reperfusion, and the lung tissue was taken.Through comparisons of these two groups,we observed the effects of melatonin.Results:(1)Total hepatic I/R led to severe histological injury in lungs.Compared with those in sham-operation group, the MDA content and apoptotic index were increased, the SOD activity was decreased, the p-ERK/ERK ratio and PCNA-positive index were decreased respectively 0 h and 0.5 h after reperfusion, and then were increased gra-dually.Histological examination revealed that the alveolar architecture was destroyed with interstitial thickening and neutrophil infiltration in I/R group.Correlate analysis revealed that p-ERK/ERK ratio showed a positive correlation with PCNA-positive index(r=0.56,P

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture at the nine acupoints on nape in treating vertebrobasilar ischemia (VBI). Methods Totally 100 VBI patients were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 50 in each group. The treatment group was intervened by acupuncture at Fengfu (GV 16), Fengchi (GB 20), Wangu (GB 12), Tianzhu (BL 10), and Jiaji (EX-B 2, C3);while the control group was by oral administration of Nimodipine tablets. The parameters in Transcranial Doppler (TCD) and Dizziness Assessment Rating Scale (ADRS) were observed before and after intervention, and the clinical efficacies were compared. Results The TCD parameters were significantly changed in the treatment group after intervention (P<0.05). The TCD parameters [Vs (RVA), Vd (BA, LVA), Vm (BA, RVA), PI (BA)] were significantly changed in the control group after intervention (P<0.05). After intervention, there were significant differences in comparing the TCD parameters [Vs (BA, LVA, RVA), Vd (BA, RVA), Vm (BA, LVA), PI (BA)] between the two groups (P<0.05). The DARS average scores were significantly changed in both groups after 7-day treatment (P<0.01). The DARS average scores after the whole intervention were significantly different from that after 7-day treatment in both groups (P<0.01). There were significant differences in comparing the DARS average scores between the two groups after 7-day intervention and after the whole intervention (P<0.01). The recovery-markedly effective rate and total effective rate were respectively 76.0%and 98.0%in the treatment group versus 44.0%and 96.0%in the control group, and there was a significant difference in comparing the recovery-markedly effective rate (P<0.05). Conclusions Acupuncture at the nine nape acupoints is an effective method in treating VBI.

Objective: To study the infectious state of 3 kinds of viruses (CVB, CMV and EBV) in respiratory tract infection and its significance. Methods: Among 290 patients studied, there were 158 boys and 132 girls, aged from 6 months to 12 years. The antigen of coxsackievirus B (CVB-Ag) and antibody of coxsackievirus B (CVB-IgM), antibody of cytomegalovirus (CMV-IgM) and antibody of EB virus (EBV- IgM) were detected by ELISA method. Results: (1) The positive incidence of upper respiratory tract infection, bronchitis, pneumonia was higher than that of noninfectious disease group (P<0.01). The positive incidence of CVB was higher than that of CMV and EBV(P<0.01). (2)There were cross viruses positive, especially in pneumonia group (P<0.05), usually CVB cross other virus infection. (3) The course of pneumonia was long in single CVB (P<0.01) and longer in cross infection of viruses (P<0.01). Conclusion: CVB infection is the most common one in the 3 viruses. Attention should be paid to multiple viruses infections in pneumonia children.

Chinese Journal of Stomatology 2003;38(6):455-457
OBJECTIVETo investigate the factors relating to root resorption after orthodontic treatment.
METHODS96 cases treated with fixed appliances were selected. The panoramic radiographs before and after treatment were examined. The relationship between root resorption after treatment (RRAT) and the variables including sex, age, extraction or nonextraction approach, tooth location, treatment duration and the root resorption before treatment (RRBT) were analyzed by multiple variance analysis and stepwise multivariate linear regression analyses.
RESULTS(1) There were statistically significant differences in root resorption in relation to gender (estimate of RRAT for female: 0.41, that for male: 0.34), extraction (estimate of RRAT for the extraction group: 0.43, that for non-extraction: 0.31), anterior or posterior teeth (estimate of RRAT for the anterior teeth: 0.59, that for the posterior teeth: 0.12). (2) The estimate of RRAT for the upper teeth was 0.40, and that for the lower teeth was 0.37. There were no statistically significant differences. (3) Using multiple regression analysis, age, duration and RRBT were associated with RRAT (R = 0.59, R(2) = 0.35).
CONCLUSIONS(1) Factors including gender, extraction or not and anterior or posterior teeth have influences on the RRAT. More root resorption was found in female or extraction cases. Anterior teeth were more susceptible to root resorption relative to posterior teeth. (2) Age, treatment duration and RRBT can explain approximately 35% of the RRAT. Root resorption aggregated when it was present before treatment. The age and treatment duration were lightly related to the root resorption.
