1.Therapeutic Observation of Modified Blistering Moxibustion for Bronchial Asthma in Young Adults
Shanghai Journal of Acupuncture and Moxibustion 2016;(1):30-33
Objective To observe the therapeutic difference between modified blistering moxibustion and traditional blistering moxibustion in treating bronchial asthma in young adults.Method Totally 121 young adults with bronchial asthma were randomized into a treatment group of 62 cases and a control group of 59 cases. With the same points selected for the two groups, the treatment group was intervened by blistering moxibustion with modification in several aspects including columnar moxa cone, topical anesthesia in moxibustion region, application of sticking after moxibustion, and regulation of diet, while the control group was by traditional blistering moxibustion. The treatment was given once every summer, successive 3 times as a treatment course. The attack frequency and intensity were scored before intervention and after a treatment course, and the clinical efficacies were compared between the two groups.Result The attack frequency and intensity scores were significantly changed after the intervention in both groups (P<0.01). After treatment, the attack frequency and intensity scores in the treatment group were significantly different from that in the control group (P<0.01). The total effective rate and recovery rate were respectively 100.0% and 61.3% in the treatment group, versus 98.3% and 28.8% in the control group. There was a significant difference in comparing the recovery rate between the two groups (P<0.01); there was no significant difference in comparing the total effective rate (P>0.05). There were significant differences in comparing the blister parameters (blister starting time, blister scar falling-off time, pus drainage time, recovery time of the blister, and the maximum diameter of the blister) between the two groups (P<0.01,P<0.05).Conclusion Modified blistering moxibustion is an effective method in treating bronchial asthma in young adults.
2.Observation on Therapeutic Effect of Cold Moxibustion on Rheumatoid Interphalangeal Arthritis
Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2004;2(3):17-19
Purpose: To observe the clinical therapeutic effect of cold moxibustion on rheumatoid interphalangeal arthritis. Methods: 576 cases were randomly divided into 290 cases in the cold moxibustion group and 286 cases in the control group and were treated for two months. Results:There was no significant difference in the total effective rate between the two groups. But, at the end of the second course of the treatment, the complete remission rate reached 77.2% in the former group and only 23.4% in the latter group, with a significant difference between the two groups (P<0.005).Conclusion: Cold moxibustion is better in the therapeutic effect for rheumatoid interphalangeal arthritis than anti-inflammatory agents of western medicine.

Objective To prove the mechanism of diethylstibestrol(DES) induced abnormal spermatogenesis, this study on the changes of proto-oncogenes bcl-2 and p53 proteins as well as cadherin adherens molecules expression in adult male hamster spermatogenic cells. Methods Adult male golden hamsters were treated daily olive oil vehicle either alone(control)or containing 1 mg/kg body weight of DES (experiment)by subcutaneous injection for 7 days. The changes of testes histological morphology were observed under light and electron microscope. The expressions of bcl-2 and p53 and cadherin in the testes seminiferous epithelium were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results DES induced adult hamster testes abnormal spermatogenesis. As compared to the control group animals,in DES-treated group animals the expression of both bcl-2 and p53 significantly increased in spermatogenic cells, especially in spermatocytes and round spermatids. However, the expression of cadherin adherens molecules obviously decreased. Conclusion It is one of reasons of DES inducing abnormal spermatogenesis that DES can result in increasing in the expression of proto-oncogenes bcl-2 and p53,and reducing cadherin adherens molecules expression.
