Object To develop an improved RP-HPLC method for determining ferulic acid in the human serum. Methods The determination was carried on RP-HPLC, using Kromasil-C 18column, methanol-water-acetic acid (36.4∶63∶0.6) as mobile phase with a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min and at the detection wavelength of 322 nm, and p-hydroxybenzaldehyde was used as internal standard. The serum sample was deproteinized with acetonitrile to extract ferulic acid. Results The calibration curve showed good linearity over the range of 9.94-159.04 ng/mL (r=0.992 5). RSD was less than 10% within day and day-to-day, the average recovery was 99.77% and the minimal concentration in serum was 5 ng/mL. Conclusion This method, which is simple, rapid, sensitive, reproducible and low toxic, is appropriate for the quantitative determination of ferulic acid in the human serum.

Abstract: Objective To retrospectively analyze the individual dose monitoring of radiation workers in Chongqing City from 2016 to 2020, so as to provide scientific reference for occupational health monitoring and radiation protection. Methods Radiation workers who performed individual dose monitoring in Chongqing Center for Disease Control and Prevention from 2016 to 2020 were selected as the research objects, and the monitoring data were collected and analyzed. Results A total of 40 926 individuals were included in this study, with a total of 135 622 person-years. The average annual individual effective dose of radiation workers over the five-year period was 0.56 mSv. NR1 and NR5, the ratio of the number of works receiving annual individual does exceeding 1 and 5 mSv to the to the total monitor workers were 13.019% and 0.335%. The annual effective dose per capita in Chongqing City showed a trend of first decreasing, then increasing and then decreasing again over the study period, with significant differences between different years (F=971.754, P<0.001). Although there were some differences in the variation trend of annual effective dose among different occupational categories, the overall trend was decreasing year by year. The average annual effective dose of nuclear medicine and interventional radiology was relatively high, and the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). The average annual effective dose of industrial flaw detection and accelerator operator in industrial application was relatively higher, and the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). There were statistically significant differences in the per capita effective doses of different occupational categories of medical application in different years (F=8.892-682.852, P<0.001). Among them, the per capita annual effective doses of five occupational categories of medical application were the highest in 2016, and the per capita annual effective doses of interventional radiology were the highest in 2018 and 2019. Conclusions The per capita annual effective dose of radiation staff in Chongqing has decreased year by year from 2016 to 2020, and remained at a relatively low level that meets national standards. The monitoring results suggest that the radiation staff of nuclear medicine, interventional radiology, industrial non-destructive testing and accelerator operator should give special attention to protect their occupational health and safety.

OBJECTIVEThis study aims to examine the prevalence and diameter of the bony canal structure of the posterior superior alveolar artery (PSAA), residual alveolar bone height, and distance of its inferior border from the alveolar crest using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT).
METHODSCBCT images of maxilla in 116 patients were randomly selected from patients who underwent maxillary sinus augmentation procedure and/or posterior teeth implant therapy from April 2011 to September 2012. The lower border of the bony canal to the alveolar crest, diameter of the bony canal, and residual alveolar bone height below the sinus floor to the ridge crest were measured from CBCT scans. Data were presented using descriptive statistics.
RESULTSThe prevalence of the bony canal was 75.14% (133/177). The mean diameter of the bony canal was (0.96 ± 0.29) mm. The residual alveolar bone height was (7.14 ± 3.64) mm. The distance of the bony canal's inferior border from the alveolar crest was (17.92 ± 5.68) mm. No statistically significant differences between the right and left sides were observed (F = 0.295, P > 0.05). The mean diameter of the bony canal was significantly smaller in females than that in males (F = 0.187, P < 0.05). The maxillary alveolar dimension was significantly correlated with the residual alveolar bone height.
CONCLUSIONThe results from this study suggest that CBCT is a valuable tool in evaluating the presence of the bony canal of the PSAAs efore maxillary sinus surgery.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effect of melittin and 5-Fu, DDP, and TXT on human gastric cancer cell line BGC-823 and to primarily explore their possible mechanisms.
METHODSMedian effect analysis was employed to determine the interaction between melittin and 5-Fu, DDP, TXT by analyzing the relationship between fraction affected (FA) and the combination index (CI) acquired from the dose-effect curve. Expressions of chemotherapeutic agent-associated genes of BGC-823 cells with or without treatment were measured by real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR.
RESULTS(1) Both melittin and chemotherapeutic agents inhibited the growth of BGC-823. (2) For BGC-823 cells were acted by 5-Fu +melittin, when FA ranged between 0.35-0.75, CI was less than 1. For BGC-823 cells were acted by DDP + melittin, when FA ranged 0.55 or so, CI = 1; when Fa ranged below 0.55, CI was less than 1. For BGC-823 cells were acted by TXT + melittin, CI less than 1 could be seen in the whole interval. (3) After treatment suppressed were the expressions of chemotherapeutic agent-associated genes of BGC-823 cells such as thymidylate synthetase (TS), excision repair cross-complementing gene 1 (ERCC1), breast cancer susceptibility gene 1 (BRCA1), beta-tubulin III (TUBB3), and microtubule-associated protein tau (MAPT).
CONCLUSIONSMelittin had a synergistic effect on the cytotoxicity of chemotherapeutic agents. The possible mechanisms might be associated with down-regulating chemotherapeutic agent-associated genes.

Objective Heart transplantation is an effective treatment of end-stage heart diseases and extending the time of donor heart preservation helps to make up for the shortage of donor hearts. This study was to investigate whether high-pressured mixed gas ( HPMG) of carbon monoxide and oxygen could prolong the time of donor heart preservation and its mechanisms. Methods Forty-eight C57BL/6 male mice aged 4-6 weeks were randomly divided in-to four groups of equal number:control ( the donor heart isolated but not transplanted) , immediate transplantation ( the donor heart transplanted right after isolated) , HTK-preservation ( the donor heart preserved in histidine-tryptophan-ketoglutarate solution for 24 hours after isolated, and HPMG preservation ( the donor heart preserved in an HPMG chamber with the oxygen partial pressure of 3200 hPa and carbon monoxide partial pressure of 800 hPa for 24 hours after isolated) .Another 36 recipient mice aged 6-8 weeks were randomly assigned to receive the donor heart immediately after harvested (n=12), preserved in HTK solution (n=12), or preserved in HPMG (n=12).At 2 hours after transplantation, the status of heart re-beating and cardiac function were compared among different groups of recipient mice.At 24 hours, tissues were taken from the transplanted hearts for examination of pathologic changes by HE stai-ning, detection of the apoptosis of cardiac cells by TUNEL, and determination of the expressions of microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 -Ⅱ(LC3-Ⅱ) and B cell lymphoma/leukemia-2 (Bcl-2) by Western blot. Resul ts The re-beating rates of the imme-diately transplanted and HPMG-preserved hearts were significantly higher than that of the HTK-preserved ones (P<0.05).At 2 hours after transplantation, the cardiac function scores were 2.5 (2.0-2.9), 0.8 (0.5-1.0), and 4.5 (4.0-4.5) in the immediate implantation, HPMG-preservation and HTK-preservation groups respectively, with statistically significant differences between any two groups (P<0.05).The expressions of LC3-Ⅱand Bcl-2 were 2.06 ±0.29 and 0.87 ±0.18 in the HPMG-preserved heart recipients and 1.24 ±0.20 and 2.07 ±0.32 in the immediately transplanted heart recipients, both higher than 0.13 ±0.03 and 0.19 ±0.02 in the controls and 0.16 ±0.06 and 0.26 ±0.08 in the HTK-preserved heart recipients (P<0.05), the Bcl-2 higher in the HTK-pre-served heart recipients than in the controls (P<0.05), and the LC3-Ⅱ expression higher in the HPMG-preserved heart recipients than in the immediately transplanted heart recipients (P<0.05).HE staining showed that cell edema and inflammatory cell infiltration were more obvious in the HPMG-preserved heart recipients than in the controls and immediately transplanted heart recipients but less obvious than in the HTK-preserved heart recipients. The rate of cell apoptosis was dramatically increased in the HPMG-and HTK-pre-served heart recipients ([5.04 ±1.77]%and [26.72 ±5.23]%) in comparison with the controls ([1.08 ±0.56]%) (P<0.01) and immediately transplanted heart recipients ([2.13 ±1.71]%) (P<0.01) but decreased in the HPMG as compared with the HTK-preserved heart recipients (P<0.01). Conclusion High-pressured mixed gas preservation can reduce cold ischemia-reperfu-sion injury of the donor heart, which may be associated with its promotion of autophagy, provision of energy to cells, and apoptosis of cardiocytes in the donor heart.
