Objective To investigate the protective effects of Erqi Decoction(EQD; mainly composed of Radix Aristolochiae Kaempferi, Radix Rhizoma Seu Flos Cypripedii, Cortex Fraxini, Cortex Phellodendri, Radix et Rhizoma Rhei) on the intestinal tract in rats with acute radiation intestinal injury and its mechanism. Methods Sixty SD rats were randomly divided into normal group, model group, EQD group and Baitouweng Decoction group (BD group), 15 rats in each group. The acute radiation enteritis model was established by exposing the whole abdomen to a total dose of 10 Gy of 6 MV higher-energy X-rays. EQD group and BD group were given intragastrical administration with corresponding medicine of EQD at the dose of 8.85 g·kg-1·d-1, BD at the dose of 4.69 g·kg-1·d-1 respectively, and the normal group and the model group were given intragastrical administration with the same volume of normal saline. The treatment lasted for 7 continuous days. After modeling, the morphological change of the proximal ileum tissue was observed under light microscope. Villus height, crypt depth, and thickness of the ileal mucosa and entire wall were measured by image analysis system. The myeloperoxidase (MPO) content in ileum tissue was determined by spectrophotometer, and the expression levels of caspase -3 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in ileum tissue were determined by immunohistochemistry. Results EQD group and BD group had milder injuries of the ileal structure, and had higher villus height, crypt depth, and thickness of mucosa and entire wall than those in the model group (P <0.05), but there were no differences between the two medication groups(P > 0.05). MPO content in EQD group and BD group was decreased(P<0.05 compared with that in the model group), and MPO content in EQD group was lower than that in BD group. The expression levels of caspase-3 and PCNA were increased in EQD group and BD group(P < 0.05 compared with those in the model group), but there were no statistical differences between the two medication groups (P>0.05). Conclusion EQD has certain protective effects against radiation-induced intestinal damage, which mechanism is probably associated with relieving the local intestinal inflammatory reaction, accelerating intestinal epithelial cell proliferation, and inhibiting intestinal epithelial cell apoptosis.

Objective To investigate the ability of single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and MRI in detecting skull-base invasion in nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods Sixty-one patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma received whole body and skull-base tomography SPECT, and nasopharynx and skull-base MRI before radiotherapy. The results were double-blind compared and evaluated. Results The overall positive rates of skull-base invasion detected by SPECT and MRI were 51% and 46% (P=0.508). In paitents with headache, cranial nerve palsy or both, the rates were 83% and 86% (P=1.000) ,80% and 80% (P=1.000), 88% and 94% (P=1.000), respectively. In patients with T1+T2 and T3+T4lesions,the rates were 22% and 0(P=0.031) ,74% and 82% (P=0.250) ,repectively. In patients with N0+N1and N2+N3lesions,they were 50% and 48% (P=1.000) ,53% and 40% (P=0.500) ,respectively. The conformation rate between SPECT and MRI was 85%. Binary Logistic regression analysis showed that T stage was a risk factor for positive SPECT(χ2=4.23,P=0.040, OR=3.04). Headache tended to be a risk factor for both positive SPECT and positive MRI (χ2=3.13, P=0.077, OR=4.54;χ2=3.64,P=0.056,OR=12.00). Conclusions The detection sensitivity of SPECT in skull-base invasion in nasopharyngeal carcinoma is equivalent to that of MRI. The consistency between SPECT and MRI is good. Moreover, there is a good correlation between SPECT and symptoms, signs and stage. SPECT of skullbase tomography is necessary for patients with severe headache, negative CT and those who can not receive MRI. When SPECT result is positive,skull-base should be considered to be invaded and should be defined as gross tumor volume in radiotherapy planning.

Objective:To explore the safety and efficacy of Castor branched stent-graft exclusion in the treatment of aortic dissection and aneurysm involving left subclavian artery.Methods:The clinical and imaging data of 88 patients with aortic dissection or aneurysm involving left subclavian artery diagnosed by CTA or DSA in our hospital from December 2017 to December 2019 were collected retrospectively, including 67 aorta dissections, 7 thoracic aortic aneurysms and 14 aorta penetrating ulcer. All patients were treated with branched stent-graft under the guidance of DSA. The postoperative curative effect and complications were observed. The paired t test was used to compare the maximum aortic diameter of the lesion before and 6 months after the operation. Results:Eighty-eight patients were successfully treated with integrated stent, the success rate of operation was 100%, and the disease-related symptoms of all patients were basically or completely relieved. The mortality rate within 1 month after the operation was 2.7% (2/88). The two deaths were complicated with other serious diseases before the operation, and the cause of death was not related the operation. All patients were followed up except 4 patients who lost contact after discharge. During the follow-up, there were 1 case of retrograde type A dissection, 1 case of new aneurysm of aortic arch, 2 cases of in-stent stenosis of left subclavian artery branch, 3 cases of mild stroke, no persistent endoleak and no death or other serious complications. The mean maximum aortic diameter at 6 months after operation [(34±4)mm] was significantly lower than that before operation [(38±6 mm)] ( t=6.63, P<0.05). Conclusion:Castor branched stent-graft is simple, mini-invasive and effective in the treatment of aortic dissection and aneurysms involving the left subclavian artery.

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of multi-slice computed tomography (MSCT)for incisional hernia of ab-dominal wall before operations.Methods Thirty patients with incisional hernia in abdominal wall confirmed by the pathology were enrolled in this study.All patients underwent MSCT examination with sagittal and coronal MPRs,and 21 cases underwent ultra-sound (US)examinations.The value of transverse scan and MPRs & MSCT and US on demonstrating the number,location,con-tents of incisional hernia,and accompanying intestinal obstruction or other complications were retrospectively evaluated and com-paired.Results Of 30 cases,there were 40 hernias,the rate of MSCT and US in detecting incisional hernias were 97.5% and 56.0%, respectively.MSCT performed better than US on demonstrating the incisional hernias (P =0.000).On MSCT,there was no signif-icant difference in the detection for isolated incisional hernia between the MPRs and axial scans (P = 1.000 ).However,MPR showed a more accurate rate for two or multiple incisional hernias diagnosis (P =0.006),and the sagittal reconstruction displayed more correct than coronal reconstruction on two or multiple incisional hernias (P =0.01 9).Furthermore,MSCT can exactly reveal the complications of incisional hernias (7 cases of intestinal obstruction,5 cases of intestinal ischemia and edema,and 1 case of me-tastasis in incisional hernia),which were not detected by US.Conclusion MSCT can correctly demonstrate the incisional hernia of abdominal wall and its complication,it can provide important imaging reference for clinical therapy.

A promising alternative to supply bone substitutes is to develop living tissue substitutes based on biodegradable materials, which is called bone tissue engineering. One of the research high-lights of bone tissue engineering is to design and manufacture scaffolds for cell attaching, migrating, and proliferating. A process which consists of a solvent casting stage, a compression molding stage and a leaching stage has been used to fabricate macroporous composites of poly(l-lactic acid)(PLLA) and β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP). The effects of the weight fraction of porogen-NaCl, of the weight ratio of PLLA to β-TCP and of the diameters of β-TCP on the porosities, the average pore diameters and the compressive yield strength and compressive modulus have been studied. The results showed that the porosities and the average pore diameters increased and the compressive yield strength and modulus decreased when the weight fraction went from 50% to 90%. The compressive yield strength and compressive modulus could be improved by changing the weight ratio of PLLA to β-TCP and the diameters of β-TCP in low-porosity composites (lower than 70%). But high-porosity composites (90%) were not reinforced by changing the weight ratio.

Objective To investigate the prevalence, etiology, rehabilitation demands and service condition of hearing disorders based on the whole population in Jilin Province, China. Methods Using the probability proportion to size (PPS) sampling, 9246 (93.3%) out of 9909 residents sampled form 36 counties were targeted for investigation from August, 2014 to January, 2015, followed the WHO Ear and Hearing Disorders Survey Protocol. The hearing loss and disability were classified as WHO recommended and Classification and Grading Criteria of Disability (GB/T 26341-2010). Results The standardized prevalence of hearing loss and disability was 16.41%and 4.78%, re-spectively. Age, sex, residence, occupation and marriage status, education level and household income were significantly associated with hearing loss prevalence, while nationality was not. The main etiologies included non-infectious disease (47.33%), ear disease (14.17%), un-known causation (13.89%), and noise (8.59%). Among all people with hearing loss, those who accepted intervention service accounted for 11.02%. Among all people with hearing disability, those who used hearing aids accounted for 5.58%, and 0.67%used artificial cochlea. Con-clusion Demographics and socioeconomic factors are significantly associated with the prevalence of hearing loss. The main etiology con-tains non-infectious disease, ear disease and noise. Both the rate of service utilization among people with hearing loss and the rate of adopt-ing hearing aids among people with hearing disability are low. It is needed to do more in prevention and rehabilitation of hearing impairment.

Objective To investigate the expression of Erbin in renal interstitial fibrosis (RIF) and the effect of over-expression of Erbin on transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-(β1)-induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in NRK52E cells. Methods In vivo, the model of renal fibrosis was induced by 5/6 subtotal nephrectomy in rat. Scr and BUN was detected and Masson staining was used to evaluate the level of renal tissue fibrosis. The location and expression of Erbin in renal tissue were detected by immunohistochemistry and Western blotting. In vitro, after NRK52E cells were treated by TGF-β1 (10 μg/L) for 72 h, immunofluorescence and Western blotting were used to obverse the expression and distribution of E-cadherin and α-SMA. The expression of Erbin mRNA and protein were detected by RT-PCR and Western blotting respectively. NRK52E cells were transiently transfected with Prk5-myc-Erbin plasmid via lipofectamine 2000, then the expressions of Erbin, E-cadherin and α-SMA were detected by Western blotting. Results (l)Compared to sham group with Scr (33.96±7.28) μmol/L and BUN (8.11±2.55) mmol/L, rats in 5/6 nephrectomy model with Scr (140.52±61.11) μmol/L and BUN (34.23±7.66) mmol/L revealed renal dysfunction. Masson staining indicated kidney interstitial fibrosis, and the expression of Erbin was significantly increased in renal tissue(2.9 folds), especially in tubular epithelia. (2)In vitro, the expressions of Erbin and α-SMA were markedly increased (2.3 folds and 2.1 folds, P<0.05, respectively) and the expression of E-cadherin was dramatically decreased in NRK52E cells stimulated by TGF-β1, which were consistent with immunofluorescence results. TGF-β1-induced E-cadherin suppression and a-SMA induction could be efficiently blocked by over-expression of Erbin (all P <0.05). Conclusions Erbin is up-regulated in renal interstitial fibrosis, and over-expression of Erbin can partly inhibit renal EMT induced by TGF-β1, which indicates Erbin playing an protective role in renal fibrosis.

Objective To investigate the expression and distribution of Cdc42-interacting protein 4 (CIP4) in renal fibrotic tissue,and the interaction between CIP4 and β-catenin in transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1)-induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) model of HK-2 cell line.Methods In vivo,the model of renal fibrosis was induced by 5/6 subtotal nephrectomy in rat.Masson staining was used to evaluate the level of renal tissue fibrosis.The expression and distribution of CIP4 was detected by immunohistochemistry.In vitro,the EMT model of HK-2 cell line was induced by TGF-β1 (10 μg/L) for 72 h.Western blotting was used to observe the expression of E-cadherin,β-catenin,CIP4 and α-SMA.Colocalization and interaction of CIP4 and β-catenin were detected by immunofluorescence and immunoprecipitation respectively.Results Compared to sham group,CIP4 expression was increased in group of 5/6 subtotal nephrectomy,CIP4 was mainly distributed in basolateral side of renal tubular epithelia.In vitro,expressions of α-SMA and CIP4 were increased in HK-2 cells stimulated by TGF-β1 for 72 h (2.5and 1.8 folds,respectively) (all P＜0.05),expression of E-cadherin was decreased(P＜0.05).Partial colocalization between CIP4 and β-catenin was detected by immunofluorescence.In control group,CIP4 and β-catenin partially colocalized at the cell membrane.Mter the stimulation of TGF-β1,translocation to nucleus of CIP4 and β-catenin were increased,and partially colocalized in nucleus.The interaction between CIP4 and β-catenin was observed by immunoprecipitation in both control and TGF-β1 stimulated groups.Conclusions Expression of CIP4 in renal fibrotic tissue is increased,which is mainly distributed in basolateral side of renal tubular epithelia.CIP4 and βcatenin partially colocalize and interact with each other.CIP4 may play a role in EMT process through the interaction with β-catenin.
