Abstract: Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of 151 cases of melioidosis and the drug resistance of Burkholderia pseudomallei (BP), in order to provide the basis for diagnosis, treatment and reasonable prevention of melioidosis. Methods A total of 151 inpatients and outpatients from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University from January 1, 2013 to August 31, 2022 were collected, and clinical specimens were submitted for examination to isolate and identify BP strains. The clinical data of 151cases of melioidosis and the drug resistance characteristics of pathogenic bacteria were retrospectively analyzed, and using SPSS26.0 software for statistical analysis. Results Among 151 cases with BP infection, there were 138 males (91.4%) and 13 females (8.6%); the most patients were aged from 45-<60 years old, accounting for 74 cases (49.0%); melioidosis incidence was concentrated in October (19.2%), November (19.2%), August (9.9%) and July (8.6%), and; the number of confirmed cases showed an increasing trend and the time for confirmation was <10 d; Internal medicine system (31.1%), surgery system (26.5%) and intensive care department (20.5%) were the common departments for treating melioidosis; blood (49.0%), sputum (9.9%) and wound secretion (8.6%) were the main clinical specimens for detecting BP; pulmonary infection (68.2%), sepsis (35.1%) and local suppurative infection (23.8%) were the top clinical manifestations in patients with BP infection; the effective rate of treating melioidosis was 74.8%; abnormal liver function was a risk factor for the curative effect of melioidosis (χ2=5.010, P<0.05); the sensitivity rates of BP strains to sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim (SXT), doxycycline (DOX), imipenem(IPM), ceftazidime (CAZ), amoxicillin/clavulanate (AMC) and tetracycline (TCY) were generally more than 90%, with sensitivities of 98.7%, 97.2%, 96.7%, 94.0%, 93.2% and 90.7%, respectively. Conclusions It can be concluded that misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis of melioidosis is easy to occur, and the understanding of the epidemiological characteristics and risk factors in this area should be strengthened. The sensitivity of BP to commonly used antibiotics has shown a certain downward trend, clinical use should be standardized, and drug resistance monitoring should be strengthened to improve the efficacy of melioidosis treatment.

Chinese Journal of Hepatology 2011;19(3):174-177
To investigate the role of heme oxygenase(HO), a catalyzing enzyme of heme to produce CO, in modulation of systemic circulation in CCl4-induced cirrhotic rats. Saline(vehicle) and ZnPP were s.c. injected into the posterior necks of rats respectively and the rats were then anesthetized by pentobarbital sodium in four hours. Mean arterial pressure (MAP, kPa), heart rate (HR, b/min) and portal pressure (PP, cm/H2O) were measured by indwelling catheter. Plasma CO was determined by Chalmers method. Heme oxygenase acivity was determined by the rate of bilirubin formation. The cirrhotic rats showed significant hyperdynamic circulation indicated by decreased mean arterial pressure [MAP, (15.6+/-1.7) vs (18.9+/-0.9) kPa, t = 4.52, P less than 0.01] and increased portal pressure [PP, (16.7+/-0.8) vs (8.8+/-0.3) cm H2O, t = 23.10, P less than 0.01] as compared to normal control rats(NS). ZnPP could cause a significant increase in MAP [(17.3+/-1.5) vs (15.6+/-1.7) kPa, t = 2.18, P less than 0.05] and significant decrease in PP [(13.2+/-0.7) vs (16.7+/-0.8) cm H2O, t = 8.53, P less than 0.01] in cirrhotic rats. The cirrhotic group presented a significant increase in plasma CO [(18.0+/-1.9) vs (10.4+/-1.3)mumol/L, t = 8.42, P less than 0.01] and HO activity in the spleens [(11.1+/-0.9) vs (6.5+/-0.9) nmol bilirubin/mg protein/h, t = 9.28, P less than 0.01] and intestines [(2.5+/-0.1) vs. (1.3+/-0.2) nmol bilirubin/mg protein/h, t = 15.1, P less than 0.01]. ZnPP could cause significant decreases in plasma CO and HO activity in liver, spleen and intestine of both control and cirrhotic rats. HO-CO system activation may be an important reason for the hemodynamic disturbance of liver cirrhosis.

Acta Academiae Medicinae Sinicae 2003;25(6):735-737
Glutaraldehyde clinically is the most commonly accepted crosslinking reagent for bioprosthetic valves preparation. Glutaraldehyde-treated tissue is stable against chemical and enzymatic degradation; however, its calcification and cytotoxicity are severe. Dye-mediated photooxidation is an alternative tissue preservation method that oxidizes the protein with visible light in the presence of a suitable photosensitizer. This article reviews chemical mechanism, research progress, clinical applications future development of these two methods.

National Journal of Andrology 2011;17(9):781-784
OBJECTIVETo investigate the changes of the expressions of the nerve growth factor (NGF) and its mRNA in the prostate tissues of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) of different ages and their significance.
METHODSSHRs and normotensive Wistar Kyoto (WKY) rats were killed at 1 month (young), 6 months (adult) and 12 months (aging), respectively, 5 in each group. Their prostate indexes were calculated, and the expressions of NGF and its mRNA in the ventral prostate tissue were detected by immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR.
RESULTSThe prostate indexes of the SHR and WKY groups were 1.16 +/- 0.06 and 1.03 +/- 0.09 at 1 month, 1.12 +/- 0.14 and 0.93 +/- 0.07 at 6 months, and 1.11 +/- 0.05 and 0.96 +/- 0.09 at 12 months, significantly higher in the former group than in the latter either at 6 or at 12 months (P < 0.05), but with no obvious difference at 1 month (P > 0.05). The expressions of NGF and its mRNA in the ventral prostate tissue were detected in all groups, and elevated gradually with the increase of age (P < 0.05). Among those of the same age, the expression levels were markedly higher in the SHR than in the WKY group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONIn SHRs with benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH), the enhanced excitation of the sympathetic nervous system may be a common mechanism underlying BPH and hypertension, and NGF plays an important role in it.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2007;32(24):2649-2652
Huangqi powder injection's positive rate of skin-test was 12.3%. Qingkailing powder injection was 3.0%. Qingkailing injection was 7.6%. Shuanghuanglian injection was 6.3%. Penicillin's rate of allergic reactions was 0.7%-10%. Different form of a drug (power or injection) and different drug consistency could influence the positive rate of skin-test. We don't use drug in positive group, and we use drug in negative group. Some trial subjects still happened allergic reactions in negative group of skin-test. In negative group of skin-test, Huangqi power injection's rate of allergic reactions was 2.1%. Qingkailing injection was 0.4%. Shuanghuanglian injection was 0.9%-2.6%. Shuanghuanglian injection's rate of allergic reactions was 8.6% in all subjects (31/360 include the subjects with positive skin-test and allergic reactions). Qingkailing powder injection's rate of allergic reactions was 4.5% (6/132). Qingkailing injection' s rate of allergic reactions was 9.1% (12/132). Huangqi power injection's rate of allergic reactions was 15.4% (62/402). The total rate of allergic reactions was 10.8%. The main appearance of Penicillin's skin-test was welling under skin, and with some blush. But the main appearance of traditional Chinese medicine skin-test was blush, and with a little welling under skin. Skin-test can reduce the allergic reactions of Qingkailing powder injection, Shuanghuangiian injection, Huangqi power injection. It can be the one measure of reducing adverse reactions.
