Neurofeedback, as an alternative treatment method of behavioral medicine, is a technique which translates the electroencephalogram (EEG) signals to styles as sounds or animation to help people understand their own physical status and learn to enhance or suppress certain EEG signals to regulate their own brain functions after several repeated trainings. This paper develops a neurofeedback system on the foundation of brain-computer interface technique. The EEG features are extracted through real-time signal process and then translated to feedback information. Two feedback screens are designed for relaxation training and attention training individually. The veracity and feasibility of the neurofeedback system are validated through system simulation and preliminary experiment.

Objective To investigate the effects and mechanism of glucagon-like peptide-1 ( GLP-1 ) receptor agonist liraglutide on the proliferation and apoptosis of human pancreatic cancer cells. Methods The human pancreatic cancer cell line MIA PaCa-2 was incubated for 24 h with liraglutide at various concentrations (10-1 000 nmol/ L), or with 100 nmol/ L liraglutide for various durations (0-72 h). Cell proliferation was determined by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) analysis. RT-PCR and Western blot were used to detect the mRNA and protein expression levels of related genes. Results GLP-1 receptor was expressed in the MIA PaCa-2 cells. Liraglutide suppressed cell proliferation, up-regulated the expression levels of pro-apoptotic protein Bax and down-regulated the expression levels of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl2 in human pancreatic cancer cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Meanwhile, liraglutide down-regulated the expression levels of insulin receptor (INSR) and insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R), and the phosphorylation levels of their downstream signaling proteins Erk1 / 2 and Akt, in a dose- and time-dependent way. Conclusion Liraglutide inhibits proliferation and promotes apoptosis of human pancreatic cancer cells; the process may be mediated via suppressing the expression of INSR and IGF-1R and inhibiting activation of the downstream MEK/ Erk1 / 2 and PI3k/ Akt pathways.

Objective To investigate the changes of cortical thickness and surface area in patients with bipolar depression(BD),and to explore the relationship between abnormal changes in gray matter and clinical symptoms. Methods 28 BD patients and 28 healthy controls underwent T1-weighted MRI.The Freesurfer software was used to process the T1 images, which used a set of automated sequences to analyze cortical thickness and surface area on 66 regions (33 regions of each hemisphere),and the correlation with clinical features was also calculated. Results Compared with controls,BD patients showed thinner cortical thickness in left medial orbitofrontal cortex((2.40±0.12) mm vs (2.55 ±0.18) mm,P=1.2× 10-3) and left rostral anterior cingulate((2.66±0.21) mm vs (2.88±0.27) mm,P=3.1 × 10-4),and smaller area of left cuneus((1 443.13± 131.00) mm2vs (6 634.70±600.16) mm2,P=2.7× 10-4) and right superior frontal gyrus ((6 634.70±600.16) mm2vs (7 300.50±653.39) mm2,P=1.3× 10-3).In addition, the negatively correlation was found between the cortical area of left cuneus and effective illness duration (r=-0.471,P=0.018),and the cortical thickness in left rostral anterior cingulate and total score of HAMD-17(17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression) (r=-0.508,P=0.009).Conclusion There are abnormal altertion of cortical thickness and cortical areas of emotional circuit in bipolar depression, but the brain areas are not completely overlapping.Correlation analysis suggests that cortical thickness and area is related to different clinical features.

Ten cell strains were obtained from the human gastric cancer cell line BGC-823 by using the method of single cell cloning. Through inoculation of these cell strains in nude mice and subsequent observation of their metastatic capability, four cell lines, C_1, C_6 with high, and C_5, C_8 with low metastatic capability were selected out; and their biological and morphological properties were studied. It was demonstrated that all of them did not show apparent difference in growth ability, but morphologically, the mictovilli of C_5 and C_8 cells were scarce and short; and their microfilaments were thick, straight and well organized. Whereas the microvilli of C_1 and C_6 strains were long and abundant comparatively, but their microfilaments were poorly organized. On the basis of present observation,we suggested that the organization of microfilaments in cancer cells appeared to bear reversed relationship with their metastatic capability.

Objective To study the subependymal giant cell astrocytoma (SEGA) in detail, on its clinical manifestations, imaging characteristics, pathological subtypes, surgical treatment and prognosis. Methods Five patients with SEGA proved by surgery and pathology were analyzed retrospectively on their clinical manifestations, treatment and prognosis. Results Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) combined with SEGA, an autosomal dominant inherited disease, mostly occurred in children. The typical clinical feature was named as Vogt tri-symptoms-sebaceous adenoma, hypophrenia and epilepsy. Because most of tumors were found at the foramcn of Monro, obstructive hydrocephaluseasily occurred due to the obstruction of foramen of Monro and the third ventricle. Five tumors were totally removed by microsurgery without any postoperative complications. No patients received chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Follow-up between 1 and 8 years indicated no recurrence, and all clinical symptoms of these 5 patients were disappeared after operation. Conclusions SEGA belongs to the low-grade intracranial tumors, which has a more satisfied outcome with a low recurrence rate. The major therapy of SEGA is total resection of the tumor by microsurgery, and it has no need to give chemoand radiotherapy after operation.
