OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effect of Fe2O3 and CeO2 as colorants on yttria stabilized tetragonal zirconia poly-crystals (Y-TZP) powder.

METHODSThe spray granulation slurry of colored zirconia was prepared with different concentrations of Fe2O3 (0.15%) and CeO2 (4%), which were added in Y-TZP. Zirconia powder was made by spray granulation. The powder specimens were divided into three groups: uncolored zirconia, Fe2O3 (0.15%) zirconia, and CeO2 (4%) zirconia. The particle morphologies of the powder specimens were measured with a laser particle size analyzer and an optical microscope.

RESULTSThe differences in D50 among the three groups were statistically significant (P<0.05). Group Fe2O3 showed a significant difference from groups CeO2 and uncolored zirconia (P<0.05). Group uncolored zirconia showed no significant difference from group CeO2 (P>0.05). Mostly spherical powder was observed in the three groups.

CONCLUSIONFe2O3 as a colorant can affect particles, whereas CeO2 has no effect.

Objective To investigate the effect of VEGF ASODN in vitro and in vivo on the biological characteristics of human prostate cancer PC3 cells and its effect in xenotransplanted tumors in nude mice by local ASODN injection.MethodsVEGF ASODN was delivered into PC3 cells by Oligofectamine.There were three experimental groups: VEGF ASODN,VEGF ODN and control.Soft agar assay and matrigel invasion assay were used to measure cellular transformation and invasion ability,respectively.Tumor formation assay in nude mice was used to evaluate the effect of VEGF ASODN on proliferation of PC3 cells in vivo.The xenotransplanted prostate tumor model in nude mice was established and the effect of local ASODN injection on the inhibition of tumor growth in vivo was examed.ResultsThe soft agar colony numbers for control,ODN,and ASODN treated cells were 53.67±5.86,52.33±6.43 and 26.00±4.58,respectively (F =13.73,P＜0.01).The numbers of invaded cells for three group were 45.60±5.53,42.35±6.21 and 18.37±3.52,respectively (F =14.18,P ＜0.01).Tumor cells transfected with VEGF ASODN proliferated more slowly than other groups.28 days later after tumor cells were injected into nude mice,the tumor sizes of three groups were (1330.32±81.38) mm3,(1267.64±120.26) mm3 and (641.83±58.34) mm3 (F =17.26,P ＜0.01).After treating the transplanted tumor with VEGF ASODN or control oligos for four weeks,the tumor weight of three groups was (1.25±0.08) g,(1.17±0.06) g and (0.41±0.05) g,respectively.Comparing with control groups,the tumor inhibitory rates of ODN group and ASODN group were 6.4 ％ and 67.2 ％,respectively (x2=17.72,P＜0.005).Conclusion VEGF ASODN could inhibit VEGF expression in PC3 cells and lead to increasing cell apoptosis.After VEGF ASODN treatment,tumorigenesis in vitro is inhibited and cell invasion ability is decreased.The tumors originated from cells transfected with VEGF ASODN grow more slowly than control groups.Also local injection of VEGF ASODN could inhibit the growth of transplanted tumors in nude mice.

OBJECTIVE To survey the antibiotic susceptibility of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and medical treatment among the aged patients suffering from underlying disease.METHODS A total of 326 strains of P.aeruginosa were isolated among the aged patients with underlying disease by sputum culture.Drug susceptibility was performed and effective antibiotic treatment was given.RESULTS Amikacin(8.0%),imipenem(12.0%) and piperacillin/tazobactam(16.0%) could be chosen.The symptom of 326 patients was alleviated after clinical treatment,while some sputum samples were found still positive.CONCLUSIONS Combined use of two kinds of medicines may produce better effects in the patients with underlying disease,who infected with P.aeruginosa,but sputum should not be emphasized to converse negative in this case.

Background Q-value is used to express the asphricity of the anterior corneal surface.As a optical surface,the optial morphology of cornea is composed of a series of tangential sections that cut-off through the optical axial.Therefore,tangential section could represent the true optical morphology of the corneal surface,and Q-value calculation by tangential radius can better represent the asphericity.Objective This study was to calculate Q-value of meridian section of the anterior corneal surface by tangential radius of the tangential topography and analyze the corneal asphericity in horizontal interval.Methods Ninety right eyes of 90 myopia subjects aged 16-30years and with mean spherical equivalent of (-5.45 ± 2.75) D received corneal topography examination using Orbscan Ⅱ system.The subjects were assigned to low myopia group,moderate myopia group and high myopia group based on their diopter and 30 eyes for each group.The tangential curvatures on meridian section at a 0.1 mm interval from apex to periphery of the anterior surface were accepted and the Q value of the semimeridian section was calculated by linear regression mathematical formulas of the tangential radius.Mydriatic optometry,intraocular pressure,keratometer and fundus examinations were performed on the subjects.Written informed consent was obtained from each subject before any medical examination.Results The coefficients of determination in all the semimeridians were over 0.5.The average calculated Q-values in the nasal and temporal horizontal interval were -0.32±0.11 and-0.30±0.12,with a significant difference between them (t =2.009,P＜0.05).The vertex radius of curvature was (7.78±0.27)mm and (7.72±0.25)mm respectively in the nasal and temporal horizontal interval,showing a significant difference(t=-1.016,P＞0.05).No significant difference was seen in Q values of both nasal and temporal areas among three myopic groups (nasal:F =0.192,P =0.825 ; temporal:F =0.912,P =0.406).The average Q value of the nasal and temporal principal meridian was-0.33±0.14 and-0.30±0.13 respectively,and the r0 was 7.76±0.30 and 7.74±0.24 respectively.A weak positive correlation was found between r0 and mean Q value of nasal meridian (r=0.320,P＜0.05),but no significant correlation was found between r0 and mean Q-value of temporal meridian (r=0.104,P＞0.05).No significant differenees were seen in the Q values between nasal meridian and nasal zone (t=0.349,P＞0.05) as well as between temporal meridian and temporal zone(t=-0.373,P＞0.05).Conclusions The study analyzes the calculated Q-value of the semimeridian section in borizontal area with myopia by linear regression mathematical formulas of tangential radius on tangential topography.The anterior surface of the cornea is proved to be prolate ellipse in shape in the subjects with myopia.

OBJECTIVE: To study the expression of p35 and p25 in rat after focal cerebral contusion and to provide experimental data for estimating brain injury time. METHODS: Fifty adult male SD rats were randomly divided into 0 h, 6 h, 12 h, 24 h, 3 d, 5 d, 7 d, 10 d after focal cerebral contusion, control and sham-operated groups (5 rats each group). The focal cerebral contusion rat model was established. The expression of p35 and p25 protein of the damage peripheral zone in brain were detected by HE staining, immunohistochemistry and Western blotting at different injury time. RESULTS: A large number of p35 protein and a small amount of p25 protein were expressed in control group and sham-operated group. After focal cerebral contusion, p35 presented unimodal change with time and p25 presented bimodal changes with time. CONCLUSION Expression of p35 and p25 showed different regularity with good time correlation, which could help to estimate the brain injury time.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of Chinese herbal medicine in treating vascular dementia (VD) and to explore the method for therapeutic effect evaluation.

METHODSMulti-center, double-blinded randomize-controlled method was adopted to observe the effect of treatment of 242 patients with VD of mild or middle degree, they were 89 cases in the TCM group, 106 cases in the western medicine group and 47 in the placebo group. Minimental state examination (MMSE), Blessed dementia scoring on TCM symptom classified evaluation were used to evaluate the therapeutic effect after 60 days treatment.

RESULTSThe total effective rate of Jiannao Yizhi Granule was 58.4%, showing a better effect than that of the placebo group and the western medicine group respectively. The treatment was superior in holistic regulation and systemic functional state improvement, it could not only improve the mild middle key symptoms of VD and the mental disorder induced reduction of functional activities, but also alleviate or eliminate the peripheral symptoms of VD.

CONCLUSIONThe effect of treatment of vascular dementia by Jiannao Yizhi Granule is certain and is worth spreading.

BACKGROUND: Long-term excessive intake of beer might lead to change of intra-corporal tissue or activity of serum enzyme.OBJECTIVE: Observation on relations between intake of beer and fat synthesis of rats and activity of enzyme correlated with catabolism in rats.DESIGN: Matched observations randomly of animal experiments.SETTING: Basic Medical Institute of Taishan Medical College.MATERIALS: The experiments were completed in Basic Medical Institute of Taishan Medical College from December 2004 to February 2005. Totally 60 SD rats were selected and categorized into 6 groups with 10 rats in each group. The rats were perfused with 9 mL/kg, 18 mL/kg, 27 mL/kg, 36 mL/kg, and 45 mL/kg beer respectively according to their fat; The rats in control group were fed with water in stead of beer.METHODS: All rats in each groups were narcotized and executed after continuous feeding 1 week, biochemical analysis and enzyme assay were made respectively after blood samples were adopted, and liver, subcutaneous fat, mesentery fat tissue and gastrocnemius muscle were preserved.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ① The level of fat, blood glucose, insulin and blood-lipid of rats in each group after feeding 1 week . ② The enzymatic activity of liver and fat tissue of rats in each group after feeding 1 week . ③ The activity of hormone sensitive lipase and lipoprotein lipase (LPL) of rats in each group after feeding 1 week.RESULTS: Totally 60 rats were channeled into result analysis without any loss. ① Comparison of the levels of fat and biochemical specifications of rats in each group after feeding 1 week: The contents of fat, serum free fatty acid (FFA), high-density of lipoprotein (LP) cholesterol, hepar triacylglycerol and liver cholesterol in beer 36 mL/kg group were higher than those in control groups (x2=19.44-20.01, P ＜ 0.01). ② Comparison of the levels of the enzymatic activity of liver and fat tissue of rats in each group after feeding 1 week: The activities of liver, subcutaneous fat, and liver microsome, I.e. Triacylglycerol alternation protein, phosphatidyl phosphohydrolase, malic enzyme, glucose-6-phasphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) of mesentery tissue in beer 36 mL/kg group were higher than those in control groups (x2=15.02-16.00, P ＜ 0.05). ③ The comparison on level of the activity of hormone sensitive lipase and lipoprotein lipase (LPL) of rats in each group after feeding 1 week: The activity of gastrocnemius muscle of hormone sensitive lipase in beer 36 mL/kg group were prominently lower than those of control groups (P ＜ 0.01), but the activity of lipoprotein lipase (LPL) (P ＜ 0.01) of subcutaneous fat were prominently higher than those in control groups (P ＜ 0.01). The activities of lipoprotein lipase (LPL)of mesentery fat tissue, subcutaneous fat and gastrocnemius muscle tissue in beer 36 mL/kg group were prominently higher than those in other beer groups and control groups (x2=19.00-20.00, P ＜ 0.01).CONCLUSION: The intake of a certain amount of beer (36 mL/kg) might promote the capability of liver in synthesis and the transport of triacylglycerol in rats. The acceleration of lipid synthesis and storage of fat tissue such as mesentery fat tissue and the increase of fat decomposition and mobilization in peripheral tissue such as muscular tissue and subcutaneous fat would finally lead to the increase of fat.

Breast cancer is the leading cause of malignancy-related mortality in women worldwide. The more accurate prediction of lymph node metastasis and evaluation of personalized prognosis of breast cancer patients could provide evidence and reference for individualized comprehensive treatment and clinical decision-making. Nomogram is statistical calculation model developed to generate individualized prediction of a certain clinical event through the factors associated with it. Currently breast cancer related nomogram models is most commonly used in the prediction of non-sentinel lymph node status in patients with sentinel lymph node-positive breast cancer, sentinel lymph node metastasis in clinical node-negative breast cancer and prognosis evaluation of breast cancer. This article reviewed the recent advances in breast cancer related nomograms according to the above mentioned three aspects, and evaluated respectively the predictive factors, accuracy, characteristics and clinical application potential.

AIM:To observe related biological parameters of 3 minutes dark-room provocative test in patients with laser peripheral iridectomy(LPI) in the fellow eyes of acute primary angle-closure (APAC) by ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM).To explore the risk factors in primary angle closure suspect(PACS) patients with progressive angle closure after LPI.METHODS: Seventy-eight eyes of APAC patients without peripheral anterior synechia were selected.Each eye underwent 3 minutes dark-room provocative test after LPI.Anterior segment parameters, including anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber angle open distance500 (AOD500), peripheral iris thickness (PIT), iris convex (IC), the position of iris insertion and trabecular-ciliary process distance (TCPD), and the number of positional angle closure(NPAC) were observed and analyzed by statistic methods.RESULTS:Patients with APAC were examined by UBM after LPI and 26 eyes(33%) occurs at least one positional angle closure,19 eyes(24%)were positive in 3 minutes dark-room provocative test among them.It occurs a positive relationship between the elevation intraocular pressure and the number of positional angle closure in dark-room provocative test(r=0.84, P<0.01).AOD500, IT and IC were significantly changed from normal light to darkroom between positional angle closure positive group and positional angle closure negative group(all P<0.01).In single factor analysis, AOD500(P=0.003), IT(P=0.012), IC(P=0.043), TPCD(P=0.015), the position of iris insertion(P=0.024) were correlative factors of positive results.In multiple-factor analysis, only IT(P=0.011), TPCD(P=0.009), iris root attachment points(P=0.02) were independent risk factors of positive results.CONCLUSION:A certain proportion of patients with PACS after LPI appeared positional angle closure in a dark room.Peripheral iris hypertrophy, anterior displacement of the ciliary body and iris root attachment points are vital risk factors.Long-term follow-up study and intervention treatment are required in these patients after LPI.

The 1.23 kb DNA fragment encoding the early protein EP0 of pseudorabies virus (PRV) Ea strain was amplified by PCR technique and cloned into pBluescriptII sk+.Three sequencing plasmids containing the partial fragment of the EP0 gene were constructed and the sequences were obtained by Sanger's sequencing technique. Compared with PRV InFh strain, there were multipile site-mutations and a deleted-mutation in the EP0 gene of PRV strain Ea，and the diversity of amino acid residues also existed.Then, the EP0 gene was inserted into an expression vector, pET-28a, fused into the downstream of the 6ΧHis-Tag in frame, to yield the expression plasmid pETEP0. After induction by IPTG, a high expression of fusion protein was obtained, SDS-PAGE analysis and Western blotting showed that the fusion protein was 62kD and the protein was specific to antisera against PRV Ea strain. This indicated that the EP0 gene be expressed in BL21(DE3) and the expression products have immuno-genicity.
