Objective To evaluate the mechanism of Fumai decoction in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus combined with acute cerebral infarction. Methods 68 cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus with acute cerebral infarction patients were divided into treatment group (34 cases) and western medicine control group (34 cases) at random. The serum levels of Endothelin (ET), Calcitonin gene related-pepitide (CGRP), Thromboxane-B2 (TXB2), 6-ketone-prostagla-ndins F1? (6-keto-PGF1?) and cerebral blood flow variation, clinical therapeutic effect were observed. Result Compared 2 groups, there was significant difference in improving neurological impairment, cerebral artery stenosis, cerebral circulation insufficiency and reducing levels of ET and TXB2, enhancing levels of CGRP and 6-keto-PGF1? (P0.05). Conclusion Fumai decoction can adjust the serum levels of ET, CGRP, TXB2 and 6-keto-PGF1?, and improve cerebrovascular function. Probably this is one of the mechanisms in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus with acute cerebral infarction.

Forty cases of unilateral low- frequency sensorineural hearing loss(LFSNHL) were analysed. The symptoms included tinnitus(87.5% ), deafness(75% ), vertigo(35%) and ear fullness(25% ). Audiome-try showed LFSNHL in all cases. The threshold difference between low frequencies and high frequencies was 26. 32 dB. The cause of LFSNHL, the relation between tinnitus, LFSNHL and endolymphatic hydrops were discussed. We hope that the diagnosis of LFSNHL should be standardized.

Objective To investigate the relationship between polymorphisms of candidate genes 〔glucokinase (GCK) gene, NIDDM1(D2S140) gene, fatty acid bindingprotein2(FABP2)gene〕and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) in Shandong Chinese Han population. Methods Short tandem repeat (STR) region polymorphisms of GCK gene, NIDDM1 gene and FABP2 gene were analyzed with the polymerase chain reaction and polyacrylamide sequencing gel in 107 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and 105 normal subjects. The subjects studied were unrelated and they are Chinese Hans living in Shandong province and no diabetes family history was revealed. Results A5 allele of GCK gene and B2 allele of NIDDM1 gene were positively related with type 2 diabetes (RR=15.70, P0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that A5 allele and B2 allele were among the risk factors of type 2 diabetes. Conclusion Polymorphic microastellite repeat markers at the glucokinase gene and the NIDDM1 (D2S140) gene locus are associated with type 2 diabetes in Chinese. The polymorphism at the FABP2 locus is not a genetic marker for type 2 DM in Chinese Hans.

ObjectiveTo investigate the diagnosis and treatment of occult thyroid carcinoma(OCT).MethodsRetrospective analysis on the clinical data of 34 cases of OCT was made. ResultsOnly 6 cases were preoperatively diagnosed as OCT. Total resection of the affected lobe and isthmus was performed on 16 cases with neck dissection in 14 cases. Subtotal thyroidectomy was performed on 18 cases. The occult cancer lesion was pathologically confirmed within ipsolateral lobe in all the 34 cases. Neck lymph node metastasis was found in 4 cases and local infiltration in 3 cases. The psammoma bodies in cancer lesion and adjacent normal gland were found in 15 cases. Thirty-one cases were followed up for an average of 9 years. One died of lung metastasis and two more of other unrelated diseases. Conclusion(1) The psammoma bodies in normal thyroid gland usually imply the existence of cancer. (2) Total thyroidectomy of a lobe or subtotal thyroidectomy was the therapy of choice. Local infiltration or neck lymph node metastasis necessitates additional neck dissection.

Chinese Journal of Interventional Cardiology 1993;0(03):-
Objective To observe the influence of chlorderazin on the change of L-arginine transport in human erythrocytes induced by oxidized low density lipoprotein. Methods Human erythrocytes were obtained from six healthy donors. The study included three groups: Gr1 (control)? Gr2 (incubated with OX-LDL) and Gr3 (incubated with OX-LDL and chlorderazin, a PLA 2 inhibitor). The 3H-L-arginine transport was measured. Results Compared with Gr1, the Vmax for the total transport of L-arginine in erythrocytes in Gr2 decreased by 33%, and Km value increased. Compared with Gr2, the Vmax for the total transport and the transport via system y+ of L-arginine in erythrocytes in Gr3 increased by 37% and 25% respectively, and Km values decreased for both. But the change of L-arginine transport by system y+L was not statistically significant. Conclusion OX-LDL could inhibit L-arginine transport in human erythrocytes, which could be reversed by chlorderazin, a nonspecific PLA 2 inhibitor.
