Objective To explore the feasibility of using portable γ spectrometer to rapidly identify the low activity of depleted uranium and the underlying conditions. Methods Firstly, high purity germanium (Ge) γ spectrometer was used to analyze energy spectrum of DU samples (5 g) and calculate nuclide percentage of 235U in an attempt to ascertain the properties of these DU samples. The portable γ spectrometer was used to provide the evidences for identification of DU samples.Secondly, portable γ spectrometer was also used to identify DU samples of same group. These samples contain 1 g DU powder and 0-5 g environmental clay powder, which were sealed with double layer pocket, and then detected with a distance of 1-5 cm during the longest detection time of 10 min.According to the detection of nuclide activity of 238U and 235U in the samples and the subsequent calculation of specific activity, the nuclide percentage composition was calculated and the existence of DU was confirmed if this value of 235U was less than 0.718%.Results The activity of 238U was detected using portable γ spectrometer under all test conditions, while the activity of 235U was detectable only under certain test conditions (MA ≥ 1 g,DN ≤ 1 cm).Under the condition that the 238U and 235U was both detected, the nuclide percentage of 235U was all less than 0.718%,which suggested that the DU was confirmed. Conclusions The energy spectrum of low activity of DU and the type of nuclide could rapidly be identified and evaluated by using portable γ spectrometer. This is same as the conclusions obtained with high purity Ge γ spectrometer,α spectrometer and ICP-MS.

BACKGROUND: Individual three-dimensional (3D) scaffolds can be constructed by 3D printing via Computer Aided Design based on the given anatomical measurements of related tissues. A rapid and accurate reconstruction of bone, cartilage, muscle and vessel also can be achieved by 3D printing; however, many problems still remain unsolved.OBJECTIVE: To summarize the principle and classification of 3D printing, the classification, characteristics and histocompatibility of scaffolds through reviewing the articles addressing 3D printing applied in bone tissue engineering, thereby providing theoretical foundation for the study on the construction of tissue-engineered bone.METHODS: PubMed and CNKI databases were retrieved for the literatures regarding the application of 3D printing technology in bone tissue engineering published from January 2001 to January 2017 using the keywords of three-dimensional printing, rapid prototyping manufacturing, bone tissue engineering in English and Chinese, respectively. Finally, 30 articles were reviewed and discussed in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The microstructures of normal tissues can be reconstructed and seed cells are printed on the 3D scaffolds synchronously by 3D printing technology. Moreover, the scaffold degradation and cell differentiation are synchronous, which contributes to tissue repair. Biological ceramics have been widely used in bone tissue engineering because of its good biocompatibility and mechanical properties. However, the urgent problems such as angiogenesis and cellular signal transduction still need to be addressed.

Objective To investigate the diagnostic value of multiplanar reformation (MPR)reconstruction for the detection of traumatic diaphragmatic rupture (TDR) in multi-slice CT examination. Methods Thirty six cases with thoracoabdominal trauma, including 21 cases with and 15 cases without TDR confirmed by surgery, received multi-slice CT examination. They were enrolled in this study. Three experienced radiologists retrospectively analyzed the axial and MPR images. The diagnostic criteria for TDR included abnormally elevated hemidiaphragm, diaphragmatic discontinuity, the "collar sign" or "dependent viscera "sign. Referenced to surgical results, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy of axial and MPR images in detection of TDR were calculated. The McNemar was used to investigate the differences between axial and MPR images in the detection of diaphragmatic discontinuity and "collar sign", and the differences between axial and MPR images of these two signs in TDR diagnosis. Results The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy of axial images in detection of TDR were 71% ( 15/21 ), 80% ( 12/15 ), 83% ( 15/18 ),67% ( 12/18 ) and 75% ( 27/36 ), respectively; of MPR images, they were 86% ( 18/21 ), 93%(14/15), 95% ( 18/19 ), 82% ( 14/17 ) and 89% ( 32/36), respectively. By axial images, twelve diaphragmatic defects or interrupts were identified in nine cases, and "collar sign" was identified in six cases. By MPR, 20 diaphragmatic defects or interrupts were identified in 15 cases ( P = 0.125 ), and "collar sign" was identified in 14 cases (P =0.021 ). The sensitivity and specificity of diaphragmatic defects or interrupts for TDR diagnosis in axial images were 43% (9/21) and 80% ( 12/15 ), respectively;in MPRimages, they were71% (15/21) (P=0.125)and93% (14/15) (P=0.500), respectively. The sensitivity and specificity of "collar sign" for TDR diagnosis in axial images were 29% (6/21) and 100% ( 15/15), respectively; in MPR images, they were 67% ( 14/21 ) (P =0. 021 ) and 100% (15/15)( P = 1.000), respectively. Conclusions MSCT presented good sensitivity, specificity and accuracy for the diagnosis of TDR. MPR images were useful supplements for axial images in TDR diagnosis which improved the diagnosis.
