OBJECTIVETo evaluate the influence of operative time on treating high-energy tibial Pilon fracture.
METHODSFrom June 2003 to May 2008, Sixty-five patients with tibial Pilon fracture were followed up. There were 42 males and 23 females in the study. The age was from 15 to 62 years with an average of (37.53 +/- 6.32) years. The patients were divided into two groups (group A and B) according to operative time. In the group A, 30 cases were treated with open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) at 3-7 days after injury. In the group B, 35 cases were treated with step-by-step postphoned ORIF at 7-24 days after injury (the swell of soft tissue extincted). The clinical effects were evaluated between two groups according to Bourne standard.
RESULTSAll patients were followed up from 7 to 24 months with an average of 16.23 months. There was significant difference on the early complications between two groups. In group A, 3 cases of infection, 4 cases of edge splitting, 1 case of plate explosing and 1 case of osteomyelitis. In group B, only 2 cases of surface infection. The time of fracture healing in group A and B was respectively (18.3 +/- 3.2) weeks and (15.7 +/- 2.5) weeks. There was significant difference between two groups (P < 0.05). According to the Bourne Pilon fracture healing standard,in group A, 12 cases got excellent result, 10 good, 8 poor, the rate of excellent and good was 73.3%; in group B, 21 cases got excellent result, 8 good, 6 poor, the rate of excellent and good was 82.9%. There was significant difference between two groups (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe choice of operative time is the key to treat high-energy tibial Pilon fracture. Step-by-step postphoned ORIF is an effective method for high-energy tibial Pilon fracture.

To compare the curative effects of two surgical treatment methods for open angle glaucoma and cataract patients.
●METHODS: Totally 69 patients with primary open angle glaucoma and cataract were divided into two groups:group A and group B. Thirty- four patients (34 eyes) in group A underwent small incision non -phacoemulsification cataract surgery combined with trabeculectomy, just combined operations, 35 patients (35 eyes) in group B underwent small incision non -phacoemulsification cataract surgery beyond 6mo after trabeculectomy, just two stage operations. Postoperative intraocular pressure at 1wk and 3mo, postoperative corrected visual acuity and filtering bleb at 3mo were observed, and intraoperative and postoperative complications were compared. All the patients were followed up for 3-6mo.
● RESULTS: All the visual acuity were increased compared with that before surgery in two groups, the difference was not statistically significant. All the intraocular pressure was controlled in two groups, the difference was not statistically significant, and the difference about the filtering bleb was neither statistically significant ( P > 0. 05 ). There were no serious intraoperative and postoperative complications in two groups.
● CONCLUSlON: The two stage operations and the combined operations both can control theintraocular pressure and improved visual acuity of open angle glaucoma and cataract. The two stage operations may prevent a second operation for post trabeculectomy cataract, allowing earlier visual rehabilitation.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the tissue toxicity and degradation of ZK60 magnesium alloy with micro-arc oxidation coatings (MAO-ZK60), in order to discuss the possibility of its potential application for orthopedic implantation.
METHODSEighteen Sprague-Dawley rats were randomized equally to three groups of A, B, C. MAO-ZK60 sticks were implanted in the femoral condyles of rats in group A (experimental group). Sticks of ZK60 magnesium alloy without any surface treatment (ZK60) were implanted in the femoral condyles of rats in group B (control group). The poly L-lactic acid (PLLA) sticks were implanted in the femoral condyles of rats in group C (control group). The changes of blood bio-chemical indexes of different groups were observed and compared. All the rats were sacrificed at 12 weeks and histological observation of liver and kidney were carried out to evaluate the hepatic and renal toxicity. Micro-CT was used to evaluate the degradation of the implants and to observe the bone-implant interface. GEHC MicroView software was operated to calculate the volume variation of magnesium alloy.
RESULTSThere was no apparent biochemical index change with time in each group, and there was no significant change among each group. No significant pathology change of liver and kidney was detected among three groups. By using a micro-CT, a gap was found on the bone-implant interface at 4 weeks after implantation in group A, which decreased gradually at 8 weeks after implantation and continued to decrease at 12 weeks after implantation. A good combination between bone and implant formed at 12 weeks after implantation. Group A has less change of volume with time than group B (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONZK60 magnesium alloy with micro-arc oxidation coatings is safe in vivo. It has higher corrosion resistance than ZK60 magnesium alloy without any surface treatment.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effect of autologous bone marrow stem cell transplantation in the treatment of severe liver damage.
METHODSAutologous bone marrow (50 ml) was harvested from 6 patients aged 44 to 69 years admitted for severe liver damage. Human bone marrow stem cells (HMSCs) were isolated and transplanted in to the patients' liver. At l, 4, 8, and 12 weeks after the transplantation, the changes in ALT, ALB, Cr, TB, PT and the clinical symptoms of the patients were observed.
RESULTSThe transplantation of autologous bone marrow stem cells resulted in obvious improvement of the liver function. At 12 weeks after the transplantation, ALT was reduced from 98.4 IU/L to 41.5 IU/L, TB from 136.5 µmol/L to 78.4 µmol/L, Cr from 112.3 µmol/L to 72.1 µmol/L, and ALB rose from 23.3 g/L to 32.6 g/L. The survival of the patients was 100% at 12 weeks, but one patient died at 7 months after the transplantation. The symptoms of the patients were also alleviated after the transplantation. At 12 weeks after transplantation, 3 patients reported improved appetite, 3 showed recovery of physical strength, and 2 showed lessened abdominal swelling. No serious adverse complications in association with the transplantation were found in the in 4 patients available to the follow-up.
CONCLUSIONAutologous bone marrow stem cell transplantation can improve the liver function of patients with severe liver damage without causing serious complications.

Chinese Journal of Schistosomiasis Control 2014;(6):591-597
This report presented the endemic status of schistosomiasis in the People's Republic of China at national level in 2013. By the end of 2013,there are 184 943 schistosomiasis japonica cases. Meanwhile, nine acute cases were reported, and 4 cases reduced compared with that of 2012. A total of 29 796 advanced cases were reported;while 911 cases were determined as advanced cases and 1 700 cases were dead in 2013. Nationally, there were around 365 467.99 hm2 Oncomelania snail infested areas in total and 9.25 hm2 of them habituated infected snails in 2013. There were 287.28 hm2 of snail infested areas found in non?endemic areas historically. Moreover,962 065 cattle were estimated to be raised in endemic regions and 633 cattle were deter?mined as positive by stool examinations. The data showed that the endemicity of schistosomiasis in China decreased further. How?ever, challenges exist to reach the aims of the medium and long term national program. Further control and effective surveillance need to be strengthened as the endemicity of schistosomiasis is unstable in the areas after schistosomiasis transmission under con?trol or interruption.
