Objective To observe the effects of T-lymphocyte function subsets,IL-4 and IFN-γ cell factor in different dose and stage after irradiation.Methoda The C57BL/6j mice were divided into shammed irradiation group and model groups.The radiation hurt model was induced by 60Co gamma rays(0.7,1.4,2.8 and 5.6 Gy).The changes of T-lymphocyte subsets CD3,CD4,CD8,IL-4 and IFN-γ in spleen cells were analyzed by flow cytometry in acute injury stage and recovery stage after irradiation.Results The lymphocyte subsets CD3 +,CD4+ and CD8 + decreased after irradiation,which were related to the irradiation dose.At 1 day after irradiation,the decreasing level of IFN-γ was higher than that of IL-4.When irradiation dose was over 2.8 Gy,IL-4 / IFN-γ showed a markedly increased compared with control group.At 25 days after irradiation,CD3 +,CD4+,CD8 +,CD4 +/CD8 +,IL-4 and IFN-γ recovered obviously,but they did not recover to the normal level of shammed irradiation group.Conclusions The depression of mouse immune function induced by γ-irradiation might be caused by changes of CD3,CD4,CD8 and CD4/CD8 ratio,especially the imbalance of IL4 and IFN-γ.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the efficacy and security of anti-platelet and anticoagulant therapy on prevention of ischemic stroke in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NAF).
METHODSWe searched PubMed, EMbase, CENTREN and its affiliated clinical trial registration data center, CBMdisc, VIP, and CNKI databases from establishment to Dec 2009 to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) covering the use of anti-platelet agents and anticoagulants for patients with NAF. Meta-analysis was performed by using RevMan 5.0 software after the strict evaluation of the methodological quality of the included RCTs.
RESULTSFourteen RCTs involving 15 880 patients were include. Compared with placebo or no use of anti-platelet drugs, antiplatelet therapy didn't reduce ischemic stroke (RR = 0.83, 95%CI 0.68 to 1.00, P = 0.05), systemic emboli (RR = 0.71, 95%CI 0.34 to 1.51, P = 0.38) and all-cause mortality (RR = 0.88, 95%CI 0.73 to 1.07, P = 0.21) while significantly increased the major bleeding (RR = 2.88, 95%CI 1.21 to 6.86, P = 0.02) in patients with NAF, intracranial hemorrhage was not affected by antiplatelet therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation (RR = 3.25, 95%CI 0.84 to 12.62, P = 0.09). Compared with anti-platelet therapy, anticoagulant therapy significantly reduced the incidence of ischemic stroke (RR = 1.84, 95%CI 1.48 to 2.28, P < 0.01) and systemic emboli (RR = 1.94, 95%CI 1.24 to 3.03, P = 0.004) but significantly increased the incidence of intracranial hemorrhage (RR = 0.49, 95%CI 0.31 to 0.78, P = 0.003), did not affect all-cause mortality (RR = 1.06, 95%CI 0.90 to 1.23, P = 0.50) and the incidence of major bleeding (RR = 0.95, 95%CI 0.76 to 1.19, P = 0.66) in NAF patients.
CONCLUSIONSCompared with the placebo and no use of anti-platelet drugs, anti-platelet therapy didn't reduce ischemic stroke and systemic emboli but increased the risk of major bleeding in NAF patients. Compared with anti-platelet therapy, anticoagulant therapy significantly reduced the ischemic stroke and systemic emboli without increasing the risk of major bleeding, but significantly increased the incidence of intracranial hemorrhage in NAF patients. Since the study included RCTs with limited and less uniform outcome endpoints, the conclusions should be verified with RCTs with more uniform endpoints and longer follow-up time.

4.Prevalence of anti-HEV among swine, sheep and chickens.

BACKGROUNDTo investigate the prevalence of anti-HEV among swine, sheep and chickens.
METHODSTotally 498 sera of swine, sheep and chickens collected from Xingjiang, Guangxi, Guangdong, Beijing and Hebei were detected for the anti-HEV by an enzyme linked immunoassay.
RESULTSThe anti-HEV positive rate of swine was 67.53%(104/154), in pigs between 4-5 months of age the rate was 100.00%(9/9) from Xingjiang. The rate in pigs under 3 months of age from Guangxi was 36.00%(9/25) and in pigs older than six months of age was 71.67% (86/120), respectively. The 108 sera of sheep collected from Xingjiang were all negative. The positive rate of chickens was only 1.27% (3/236). The anti-HEV prevalence rates of chickens from Luoding, Shenzhen, Liuzhou, Beijing and Hebei were 4.00%, 1.49%, 1.49%, 0, 0 respectively.
CONCLUSIONHEV infection does exist among swine and chickens. The anti-HEV prevalence of swine was the highest among domestic animals. The role of swine and chickens in transmission of HEV needs to be further studied.

5.A study on oral health behavior and other related factors between children with high dmft and no caries.

OBJECTIVETo explore the risk factors of children with high dmft.
METHODSIn suburban of Guangzhou, oral health of 401 3 - 4-year-old children were examined and structured questionnaire were completed by their parents. 120 children with highest number of dmft (dmft > or = 5) and 118 caries-free children were chosen for case-control analysis.
RESULTSThe results of logistic regression analysis showed that the factors associated with high dmft were developmental defect of enamel, visible plaque index, frequency of toothbrushing, frequency of sugar consumption, and income.
CONCLUSIONSAdvocating brushing teeth at least twice daily, controlling the frequency of sugar consuming, reducing the developmental defect of enamel and paying more attention to the oral health of lower income population may effectively reduce dental caries of the children.

OBJECTIVETo isolate and identify Streptococcus mutans (Sm) and Streptococcus sobrinus (Ss) in dental plaque of children with high dmft and no caries by selective medium, biochemical methods and arbitrarily primed-polymerase chain reaction (AP-PCR).
METHODSA total of 401 3-4-year-old children from seven kindergartens were recruited using cluster sampling and their dental caries status were examined. From 30% of children with the highest dmft score (dmft >/= 5), 20 children were chosen randomly as test group and 20 age and gender-matched caries-free children were selected as control. Plaque samples were collected from buccal surfaces of the molars and plated onto TYCSB plate. Sm and Ss were primarily identified by colony morphology and biochemical characteristics. Then chromosomal DNA of the strains was isolated and Sm or Ss were confirmed by AP-PCR.
RESULTSThe proportion positive for Sm and Ss in children with high dmft was 100% and 40% respectively while that in caries-free children was 75% and 5% by AP-PCR analysis. The differences were statistically significant between the two groups.
CONCLUSIONSThe proportions positive for Sm and Ss detected by AP-PCR method were significantly higher in children with high dmft than in caries-free children and it is a risk factor for high dmft in deciduous teeth harboring Sm and Ss.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the efficacy and safety of cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) alone or in combination with implantable cardioversion defibrillation (ICD) in patients with mild to severe heart failure.
METHODElectronic searches of MEDLINE, EMBASE, CENTREN and affiliated clinical trial registration data center, US Food and Drug Administration reports, CBMdisc, VIP, and CNKI databases from establishment to Dec 2010, using the search terms "CRT, heart failure", "biventricular pacer, heart failure", "biventricular pacing, heart failure", and "biventricular pacemaker, heart failure", were performed to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Meta-analysis was performed by using RevMan 5.0 software after the strict evaluation of the methodological quality of the included RCTs.
RESULTSA total of 23 trials including 8521 patients were included. In patients with New York Heart Association (NYHA) class I/II, CRT improved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) [weighted mean difference (WMD) = 0.05, 95% CI 0.01 - 0.08], reduced heart failure hospitalizations [risk ratio (RR) = 0.70, 95%CI 0.61 - 0.81] and all-cause mortality (RR = 0.78, 95%CI 0.65 - 0.93) with increasing complications (RR = 1.74, 95%CI 1.42 - 2.13). In patients with NYHA class III/IV, CRT improved LVEF (WMD = 0.03, 95%CI 0.01 - 0.05), reduced both heart failure hospitalizations (RR = 0.64, 95%CI 0.55 - 0.73) and all-cause mortality (RR = 0.80, 95%CI 0.70 - 0.91) without increasing complications (RR = 1.01, 95%CI 0.91 - 1.12). Compared with ICD alone, CRT in combination with ICD significantly improved LVEF (WMD = 0.03, 95%CI 0.00 - 0.06), reduced heart failure hospitalizations (RR = 0.73, 95%CI 0.64 - 0.82) and all-cause mortality (RR = 0.82, 95%CI 0.72 - 0.95) without increasing complications (RR = 1.36, 95%CI 0.91 - 2.03) in patients with NYHA class I-IV symptoms.
CONCLUSIONSCRT offered additional benefits on top of standard medication for heart failure patients with ventricular dyssynchrony in terms of improving LV function, and reducing heart failure hospitalization and all-cause mortality, regardless of NYHA class. CRT offers also additional benefit in heart failure patients implanted with ICD. However, CRT is associated with more adverse events in patients with NYHA class I/II.

8.Association between the erythrocyte sedimentation rate, serum C-reactive protein and risk of lung cancer.

OBJECTIVETo explore the association between the erythrocyte sedimentation rate, serum C-reactive protein (CRP) and the risk of lung cancer.
METHODSOne hundred and three patients with newly diagnosed lung cancer and 85 homochronous hospitalized patients with chronic respiratory diseases (including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, bronchiectasis and pulmonary fibrosis) were included in this study. ESR, serum levels of CRP, CEA, CA19-9 and CA125 were analyzed in the two groups before the initiation of any therapy after hospitalization. The association with clinicopathological characteristics of lung cancer and the risk of lung cancer were estimated by logistic regression.
RESULTSBoth the ESR and CRP levels were significantly higher in the lung cancer group, as compared with that in the chronic respiratory diseases group (P < 0.001). There was no significant association of ESR and CRP with lung cancer stage and type. Spearman correlation analysis showed a positive correlation between ESR and CRP (r = 0.56, P < 0.001), ESR and CA125 (r = 0.33, P < 0.001), and CRP and CA125 (r = 0.32, P < 0.001). The results of multivariate logistic analysis showed that the level of CRP was associated with an increased risk of lung cancer. Adjusting the confounding factors such as age, gender and smoking condition, the risk increased along with the elevation of CRP. Compared with the first quantile patients, the risk of the second quantile patients increased twice (OR: 2.46, 95%CI: 1.16 - 5.20), the risk of the third quantile patients increased ten-fold (OR: 10.52, 95%CI: 4.40 - 25.18).
CONCLUSIONThe level of CRP is associated with an increased risk of lung cancer. The results of this study suggest that early detection of CRP may have a potential predicting value for high risk group of lung cancer.

9.The effect of mitochondrial oxidative stress and the expression of Bcl-2 and Bax proteins on cardiomyocyte apoptosis during hypoxia postconditioning.

OBJECTIVETo investigate mitochondrial oxidative stress on cardiomyocyte apoptosis and the expression of Bcl-2 and Bax proteins in cardiac sarcolemma and mitochondria after application of hypoxia postconditioning and free radical scavengers.
METHODSPrimary cultured neonatal rat cardiomyocytes were exposed to 3 h hypoxia (H) followed by (1) 6 h of reoxygenation (R) (H/R), (2) 3 intermittent cycles of 5 min H and R before 6 h of R (PC), (3) application of superoxide dismutase (SOD) before PC (SOD+PC), (4) application of catalase (CAT) before PC (CAT+PC), and (5) application of SOD plus CAT before PC (SOD+CAT+PC). Cardiac sarcolemma and mitochondria were isolated by differential centrifugation. Mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) was detected with fluorescent probes (DCFH-DA) and cardiomyocyte apoptosis was detected with flow cytometry. The expressions of Bcl-2 and Bax proteins in cardiac sarcolemma and mitochondria were measured by Western blot.
RESULTSMitochondrial ROS reduced significantly in PC, SOD+PC, CAT+PC and especially in SOD+CAT+PC groups (all P<0.01). The number of apoptotic cardiomyocytes reduced significantly in PC, SOD+PC and CAT+PC (all P<0.01) but not in SOD+CAT+PC groups. Bcl-2 levels increased while Bax levels decreased in cardiac sarcolemma and mitochondria in PC, SOD+PC and CAT+PC groups (all P<0.01), Bcl-2 levels decreased and Bax levels increased in H/R and PC+SOD+CAT groups (all P<0.01).
CONCLUSIONSPC attenuated H/R induced ROS and cardiomyocyte apoptosis, which might be mediated by upregulating the expression of Bcl-2 and downregulating the Bax in mitochondria and sarcolemma; SOD or CAT alone did not but SOD plus CAT attenuate the anti-apoptotic effect of hypoxia postconditioning; mitochondrial ROS thus plays an important role in PC's cardioprotection.

10.Study on quality of life of asymptomatic HIV infected persons with traditional Chinese medicine.

OBJECTIVEStudy on quality of life of asymptomatic HIV infected persons with traditional Chinese medical, which can provide the clinical basis for improving the quality of life.
METHODThis study applied a randomized, double-blind, and placeb-parallel control designed method to select 1 200 persons in the asymptomatic period of HIV infection as the subjects. The subjects were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group at the ratio of about 2:1. According to the results of monthly differential diagnosis of TCM, the test group and the control group were given homologue Chinese drugs preparations and model Chinese drugs. The total study period was 18 months. Using PRO scale and the world health organization AIDS determination of quality of life short scale form (WHOQOL-HIV-BREF) to investigate asymptomatic HIV infected persons, according to different times, we calculated the total score and each domain score of quality of life of the treatment group and control group, we did statistical analysis.
RESULTForm the PRO scale,we can see that the treatment group showed a trend of stability, compared with the control group with significant statistical difference (P < 0.05) after 6 months; from the WHOQOL-HIV scale analysis, we can see that compared with before treatment, the quality of life of the treatment group was increased, the difference was significant (P < 0.05), but the quality of life of the control quality of life was decreased, the differences was significant (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONDialectical therapy of Chinese medicine can significantly improve the patient's quality of life, which can provide the basis for the prevention and control policy formulation and implementation with asymptomatic HIV infected persons.
