Previous work from this laboratory has cloned a novel gene NOR1 and showed its extensive expression in normal tissues and down-regulation in carcinomas. To further investigate its downstream target genes and better understand its function, NOR1 was over-expressed in HepG2 hepatoma cells and global changes in gene expressions from a stable line were identified by cDNA microarrays. The results discovered 59 genes up-regulated in these cells compared with the original cells, including Grb2, HBP17,TNFRSF11B genes that have been implicated in tumorigenesis and cancer development. In addition, 103 down-regalated genes were also identified, including genes encoding Bik, MAP2K6 and ZFP95 proteins. The expression patterns of certain genes identified by microarrays were validated by quantitative real-time PCR and the results showed that expression difference were statistically significant (P< 0.05). These data suggest that NOR1 may influence the biology and cancerous behaviors of HepG2 cells by regulating expression of a set of genes involved in signal traasduction, cell cycle regulation, transcription and Wanslation controls.

Islet transplantation is effective in treating diabetes, however, its clinical use is highly restricted by a series of influencing factors. This review elucidates the non-immune factors including islet purification, instant blood-mediated inflammatory response and revascularization deficit on the development of islet transplantation, and also highlights the application and perspective of islet xenotrasplantation in the treatment of diabetes.

Objective: To understand the effect of Carvedilol on mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation function during the development of pressure overload induced left ventricular hypertrophy in rats and its mechanism. Methods: Male SD rats were randomized into 6 groups: 5-and 15-week coarctation of the abdominal aorta(H5,H15),5-and 15-week Carvedilol intervention(HR5,HR15) and 5-and 15-week sham operation(S5,S15).Hemodynamics and ventricular remodeling parameters were measured, and the mitochondrial respiratory function was detected by Clark oxygen electrode. Results: Compared with S5,mitochondrial state 3 and 4 respiration and the oxidative phosphorylation rate(OPR) were increased and the respiratory control rate(RCR) decreased significantly in the H5 group. In comparison with S15,state 3 respiration,OPR and RCR were reduced significantly in the H15group.Carvedilol increased the three parameters and restored them to the level of the S15.Conclusion: Mitochondrial respiratory function decreased during the development of pressure overload induced left ventricular hypertrophy in rats.Carvedilol could protect mitochondrial respiratory function and improve myocardial energy metabolism, which might be a mechanism underlying its protective effect on myocardium.

Objective To investigate the incidence of surgical site infection(SSI)following clean incision breast surgery under non-local anesthesia, and evaluate risk factors for SSI.Methods Clinical data of 3 327 patients who underwent clean incision breast surgery under non-local anesthesia in 22 hospitals in Fujian Province were surveyed retrospectively,SSI and risk factors were analyzed. Results Among 3 327 patients,1 502(45.19%)were with malignant tumors, the average dura-tion of surgery were (101.18 ±8.04)minutes;a total of 24 cases of SSI occurred, incidence of SSI was 0.72%;253 (7.60%)patients received pre-operative antimicrobial prophylaxis,62.66% used antimicrobial agents within 0.5-2 hours before surgery. The main pathogenic bacteria was Staphylococcus aureus .Univariate and logistic regression analysis re-vealed that malignant tumor, diabetes mellitus, and use of immunosuppressants were all risk factors for SSI (all P <0.05). Conclusion SSI following clean incision breast surgery under non-local anesthesia is well controlled, risk factors for SSI should be evaluated before operation, comprehensive preventive measures should be taken to reduce the incidence of SSI.

Of the 42 K . pneumoniae strains isolated from liver abscess ,85 .7% (36/42) were hypermucoviscous phenotype and 88 .1% (37/42 ) were serotypes K1 , K2 . For the strains from other abscess , bacteremia ,community acquried pneumonia (CAP) ,urinary tract infection (UTI) and biliary tract infection ,the prevalence of hypermucoviscous phenotype was 81 .3% (13/16) ,40 .5%(15/37) ,85 .7% (12/14) ,52 .4% (11/21) and 21 .4% (3/14) ,respectively ,and the prevalence of serotypes K1 ,K2 was 56 .3% (9/16) ,29 .7% (11/37) ,64 .3% (9/14) ,38 .1% (8/21) and 7 .1% (1/14) ,respectively .K1 serotype isolate accounted for 61 .9% of the strains from liver abscess .The ratio between serotype K1 and K2 was similar in the isolates from other abscess ,CAP ,UTI or bacteremia .Non‐K1 ,K2 serotype isolates were common in biliary tract infection .The prevalence of extended‐spectrum beta‐lactamases (ESBLs ) was 5 .5% in hypermucoviscous phenotypes and 33 .3% in the non‐hypermucoviscous phenotypes .Conclusions rmpA gene is associated with the hypermucoviscous phenotype of K .pneumoniae strains and commonly identified in K1 ,K2 serotype isolates .Serotypes K1 ,K2 isolates are important pathogens in liver abscess and CAP ,and also common in other abscess ,UTI and bacteremia .K1 serotype isolate was most common in liver abscess .The prevalence of K1 or K2 serotype was similar in other infections . The prevalence of ESBLs is lower in hypermucoviscous strains than in non‐hypermucoviscous strains and is associated with lower resistance rate to most of the antibiotics tested .
