Phosphate-dissolving microorganisms are widely distributed in soil, rhizosphere and other ecological environment. Understanding the characteristics of these microorganisms in solubilizing phosphates is helpful to apply them in improving P use efficiency. The obtained results indicated that the fungi had much higher capacity to dissolve the rock than the bacteria. Existence of Fe, Al, Mg and Na in the culture media reduced the rock solubilization by the bacteria, but increased the solubilization of the fungi. The higher content of the rock in the media, the lower capacity of the rock phosphate solubilization was found. The capacity was also significantly reduced if the concentration of C material in the media was higher than 3%. It was also found that the microorganisms destroyed the rock structure. The P was more easily released from the rock at further incubation. In conclusion, there is some potential to utilize the microorganisms to activate the rock phosphate.

Objective: To observe the effects of microwave on the activity of SOD and the contents of MDA in renal cortex and testis of mice. Methods: Microwave generator(2 450 MHz, 10 mW/cm2) was used to expose mice; NBT,DTNB and TBA were used to mearure the activity of SOD and the contents of MDA in renal cortex and testis of the mice after microwave exposure. Results: The content of MDA in renal cortex and testis of the mice increased progressively on days 1,6,12 and reached the highest level on day 24 after the microwave exposure (P<0.01). The activity of SOD in renal cortex and testis of the mice decreased progressively on days 1, 6, 12 and reached the lowest level on day 24 after the microwave exposure (P<0.01). Conclusions: Microwave exposure can produce reactive oxygen free radicals and lead to depress SOD activity.
6.Increased expression of ERp29 in retinoic acid-induced PC12 cells by mutant presenilin-1 and its significance
Chinese Journal of Neuromedicine 2008;7(3):250-253,257
Objective To investigate the effect of mutant presenilin-1(PS-1)on retinoic acid (RA)-induced PC12 cell gene expression, and find out the pathogenesis-related genes of Alzheimer's disease. Methods Gene-engineered PC12 cells stably expressing mutant PS-1 or wild-type PS-1 gene were induced by RA and then investigated by silver staining difrerential display (DD) technique for detecting gene differential expression. Results The gene-engineered PC12 cell models expressing mutant or wide-type PS-1 gene were successfully established by Lipofectin transferring technique. The endoplasmic reticulum protein 29 (ERp29) was higher expressed in gene-engineered PC12 cells with mutant PS-1,moreover,it had a close relationship with cell apoptosis. Conclusions The increase of ERp29 expression may be result from endoplasmic reticulum stress. The higher expression of ERp29 may play an important role in pathogenic mechanism of Alzheimer's disease.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the clinical outcomes of lower cervical spinous process laminar screw technique in open door laminoplasty.
METHODSFrom February 2005 to June 2010,12 patients with cervical myelopathy were treated with open door laminoplasty by lower cervical spinous process laminar screw technique. There was intervertebral disc herniation with degenerative stenosis in 5 patients, ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament with osteophyte in 6 patients, cervical traumatic instability with spinal cord injuries in 1 patient. Nerve function, complications, and the cervical canal to body ratio (CBR), range of motion (ROM) and the anteroposterior serial alignment were observed by Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score, X-ray, CT and MRI.
RESULTSThe surgical time was from 1.5 to 2 h with an average of 110 min; blood loss during operation was from 450 to 800 ml with an average of 580 ml. Postoperative complication occurred in 1 case with upper limb pain and 1 case with cerebrospinal fluid leakage. All patients were followed up from 1 to 2 years with an average of 21.8 months. JOA score improved from preoperative 9.5 +/- 1.8 to postoperative 13.6 +/- 2.4 (P < 0.01). X-ray, CT, MRI showed CBR increased obviously (P < 0.01); ROM on flexion-extension and cervical lordosis decreased respectively from (40.0 +/- 10.0) degrees and (65.0 +/- 12.0)% before operation to (15.0 +/- 5.0) degrees and (42.0 +/- 8.0) % at the final follow-up (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONLower cervical spinous process laminar screw technique in open door laminoplasty for cervical syndrome is safe and can obtain satisfactory effects, has strong internal fixation and reduce the risk of re-closure.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the efficacy and safety of hydrochloride valacyclovir in treatment of varicella in pediatric patients between April 2006 and March 2007.
METHODSA randomized controlled multi-center clinical trial was conducted in 5 pediatric centers, i.e., Children's Hospital of Fudan University, Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University, Children's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Pediatric Department of Tongji Hospital of Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science & Technology and Children's Hospital, Chongqing University of Medical Sciences. Patients who were clinically diagnosed as varicella without any complications and were beyond 3 years of age were enrolled into the study from the out-patient clinics. The subjects were divided into two groups randomly, one was treated with hydrochloride valacyclovir, the other with ribavirin. There were 128 cases in the group treated with hydrochloride valacyclovir and 132 cases in control group treated with ribavirin. The treatment duration of two groups was five days. The clinical efficacy and safety were evaluated after the first day and the fourth day of the treatment and within three days after the end of the treatment. The clinical efficacy was assessed by efficacy index.
RESULTS(1) The efficacy index on the fourth day of the therapy (0.80 +/- 0.24) in the valacyclovir group was significantly higher than that of ribavirin control group (0.59 +/- 0.37) (t = 5.42, P < 0.01). The efficacy index at the end of the treatment (0.86 +/- 0.14) in the hydrochloride valacyclovir group was also significantly higher than that (0.70 +/- 0.30) of the ribavirin control group (t = 5.43, P < 0.01). (2) In the valacyclovir and ribavirin groups, the effective rates on the fourth day of the therapy were 94.53% and 72.7% respectively (chi2) = 22.38, P < 0.01). The effective rates at the end of the therapy were 99.2% and 88.6%, respectively (chi(2) = 12.60, P < 0.01). The rates of cure of the two groups were 33.6% and 25.0% (chi2) = 2.32, P > 0.05). (3) No severe adverse drug reactions were observed in any of the two groups.
CONCLUSIONSThe hydrochloride valacyclovir was safe, reliable and convenient in treatment of uncomplicated varicella in children.
