5.What Qualities Do Medical School Applicants Need to Have? : Secondary Publication.
Yonsei Medical Journal 2009;50(3):427-436
PURPOSE: Doctors are asked to play the roles of both a healer and a professional. In dealing with this inherent demand, we should first ask ourselves if we are selecting students who show traits that would enable them to become a good doctor. The primary concern of this study was to identify the core elements of medical professionalism that will develop into professional competence that we should be sought in medical school applicants. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred-six responses from the Delphi survey done by medical school professors and 230 completed questionnaires from medical students were used for analysis. We also set out to analyze the level of medical professionalism in newly entering medical students using a 5-point Likert scale. RESULTS: Of the 27 elements of medical professionalism examined, the most important core element was thought to be 'life-long learning skills'. The level of professionalism in Korean medical students was mostly assessed to be less than the 3.0 mean score given by the professors. Medical students tended to rate themselves higher than did the professors for their level of medical professionalism. CONCLUSION: Medical professionalism can be categorized into three domains; professional knowledge, professional skills, and professional attitude. For the prominent differences in the recognition of the levels of professionalism elements in medical students by students and professors, further studies investigating the reasons for discrepancy are needed.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine differences in the perceived importance and frequency of nurse role behaviors for medical and surgical nurses and to examine the relationship between perceived importance and frequency of nurse role behaviors in the two groups. METHOD: A descriptive design was used with convenience sampling of 351 medical and surgical nurses in the 40 hospitals with over 500 beds. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. RESULTS: 1) The total score for perceived importance of nurse role behaviors was 4.09+/-.53 for medical nurses and 4.13+/-.53 for surgical nurses. 2) The total score for frequency was 3.15+/-.54 for medical nurses and 3.24+/-.56 for surgical nurses. 3) The perceived importance of nurse role behaviors was higher than the frequency, but the difference between two groups was not significant. 4) The perceived importance of nurse role behaviors was highly correlated with frequency (r=.579, p=.000) for the two groups. CONCLUSION: Medical and surgical nurses perceived the importance nurse role behavior but the frequency of the behavior is lower. Therefore, further research is needed to develop strategies to increase the frequency of nurse role behaviors.

Journal of Korean Academy of Fundamental Nursing 2007;14(1):110-119
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the need for advanced practice nurse and explain the relationship between self-efficacy and professional self-concept among Korean nurses. METHOD: The participants were 511 Korean nurses who were recruited in hospitals or public health centers in Korea. The instruments used in this study were Sherer et al's self-efficacy instrument, Arthur's professional self-concept instrument, and a structured questionnaire on the need for advanced nurse practitioners. Cronbach alpha, mean, SD, X2, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient were used to analyze the data using SPSS PC+ ver 12.0 for Windows. RESULTS: Of the nurses, 57.9% of wanted to be advanced practice nurses. The mean of professional self-concept and self-efficacy scores for the nurses were at the medium level. Professional self-concept and self-efficacy of nurses showed significant differences according to age, working location, marital status, level of education, and length of clinical experience. A significant positive correlation was found between professional self-concept and self-efficacy. CONCLUSION: Before planning to develop the role of Advanced practice nurse, there is a need to measure self-efficacy and professional self-concept among nurses. Politically, strategies to increase self-efficacy and professional self-concept among Korean nurses will be necessary in order to prepare good advanced practice nurse.

9.School Health Program : International Trend.
Journal of the Korean Medical Association 2003;46(2):116-123
Programs that promote health through schools (school health programs), when delivered through schools that are themselves organized to promote health (health-promoting schools), are one of the essential means through which the twin goals of "Health for All by the Year 2000" and "Education for All" can be achieved. There are numerous evidences that school health programs are cost-effective and highly beneficial for adolescents themselves and communities they are belonged to. These days, the world's trend for school health programs has two directions. One is that to achieve best goals for school health, well-organized efforts are needed from governments, communities, schools, parents, and doctors. So, a new concept of 'comprehensive school health programs' is emerging. The other is that physicians should play an active roles not only for the school health promotion and school health education but also for the other steps including marking polices, and advising community members who are concerned with school health services. Now, it is also time for Korean doctors to be an advocate for comprehensive school programmes and to participate actively in those programs.

10.Optimization of doctor's order inputs interface and functions of electronic anamnesis.
Chinese Journal of Medical Instrumentation 2010;34(5):381-383
The doctor's order system of electronic anamnesis is the bridge between HIS system and a much better service, especially when the HIS system is focused on its billing function. In practice, we continuously perfect and better the interface and functions of medical advising inputs to effectively standardize doctors' orders and lessen mistakes. It can also enhance working efficiency, and set a valid platform for medical billing management, rationalized drug use management, antibiotic classification management, clinical application, etc.
