Rhadomyosarcoma of the prostate is relatively rare and highly malignant condition. Three major categories of rhabdomyosarcoma exist, which should be kept clearly separated: pleomorphic, embryonal, and alveolar Pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma is actually the least common of the three categories. It arises from myotome-derived skeletal muscle and occurs almost exclusively in adults. We make the unequivocal diagnosis of pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma only if we can detect cross striations in some of the tumor cells. Herein we experienced a pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma of the prostate which is generally not found in the urogenital area and reviewed literature briefly.

Korean Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 2004;34(2):111-116
Rhabdomyosarcoma, when it occurs in the head and neck, is primarily found in children. Alveolar rhabdomyosar-coma is rarely seen in the oral lesion, comparing to the embryonal and the pleomorphic variants. This is a report of a case of alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma in the mandible in a ten-year old girl who complained of a non-painful swelling on the right cheek. The right lower 1st molar was mobile. Her radiographs revealed an extensive radiolucency with somewhat irregular border on the right mandibular ramus. The right mandibular 1st and 2nd molars lost their lamina dura and were floating. CT images revealed smooth-outlined soft tissue mass occupying the pterygomandibular space, the infratemporal space, and the masseteric muscle with thinning and perforation of the right mandibular angle and ramus. Histopathological and immunohistochemical findings established the final diagnosis of alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma.

This case reports of nasopharyngeal embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma mainly for a stuffy nose, runny nose with blood, and without typical clinical manifestations. Electronic laryngoscopy tip: nasopharyngeal neoplasm. MRI tip: nasopharyngeal carcinoma. By pathological and immunohistochemical examinations, it finally was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma.

Journal of Korean Thyroid Association 2015;8(1):117-120
This is a case of a 30-year-old man who was referred to our hospital for evaluation of a rapidly growing tumor in the left thyroid gland. It was palpated 2 weeks ago. But it was growing fast. A 4x3 cm mass was palpated in the left thyroid gland. Our impression was anaplastic thyroid carcinoma. Computed tomography finding indicated a thyroid malignant tumor and cytology result suggested spindle cell neoplasm. A lower anterior neck mass was resected and final histopathological result turns out to be a rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS). Although cervical RMS is very rare in adults, it has to be included for the differential diagnosis for the rapidly growing mass at thyroid gland.

Metastases to the orbit usually affect the intraorbital fat and bone than the extraocular muscles. Metastasis to the extracoular muscles commonly occurs unilaterally, and diffuse enlargement of the bilateral extraocular muscles due to metastasis is extremely rare. In this report, we will describe a case of diffuse metastasis to the bilateral extraocular muscles from nasal rhabdomyosarcoma masquerading as thyroid associated orbitopathy. We will also discuss about the MR imaging findings helpful for differential diagnosis from thyroid associated orbitopathy.

9.Usefulness of Chimeric Transcript in the Diagnosis of Pediatric Solid Tumors.
Journal of the Korean Association of Pediatric Surgeons 1999;5(1):45-52
Pediatric solid tumors have many similarity among different tumors. These tumors present small round cell types, and cause frequent diagnostic problems in pediatric pathology. An important advance in the investigation of these small round cell tumors has been the identification of consistent chromosomal translocations associated with several types of tumor. Eighteen patients with soft tissue sarcoma were available for review. Seventeen cell lines were also included in this study. The RNA from the specimens were analyzed by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). PAX3-FKHR fusion was present in four of five alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma and PAX7-FKHR fusion was detected in one of five alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. None of the specimens expressed more than one chimeric transcript. EWS-FLI1 or EWS-ERG fusions were detected in all seven Ewings' sarcoma. No specimens showed EWS-WT1 fusion. These results corresponded well to the histopathologic diagnosis. There were no differences in the histologic appearances of tumors with the more frequent PAX3-FKHR or EWS-FLI1 fusions compared with those containing the variant PAX7-FKHR or EWS-ERG fusions. RT-PCR assay for chimeric transcript is an useful tool for a rapid and objective diagnosis of pediatric solid tumors. Through these tools, we can approach genetically to the differential diagnosis of undifferentiated small round tumors.

10.Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma of the Nasal Cavity in an Adult: A Case Report.
Journal of the Korean Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine 2009;13(1):97-100
Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the head and neck is very rare in adults. We report a case of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma in the nasal cavity, occuring in a 24-year-old male patient presenting with left nasal obstruction, ipsilateral eye and cheek pain and multiple neck nodules. Rhabdomyosarcoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of poorly defined soft tissue mass of the nasal cavity not only in children, but also in adults.
