Neurilemmomas are tumors of the neurilemmoma or nerve sheath of Schwann. They rarely occur in the retroperitoneal space. It is usually solitary and may be benign or malignant, solid or cystic, encapsulated or diffuse. We report 2 such cases and discus the clinical and pathological features.

Schwannoma also referred to as neurilemmoma, neurinoma, and perineural fibroblastoma, is an encapsulated nerve sheath tumor consisting of two components :a highly ordered cellular component (Antoni A area) and a loose, myxoid component (Antoni B area). It is usually solitary and may be benign or malignant, solid or cystic, encapsulated or diffuse. It is rarely occur in the retroperitoneal space. The term cellular Schwannoma is indicative of a Schwannoma composed predominantly of Antoni A type tissue. We report one case of retroperitoneal with brief review of literatures.

The retroperitoneal space is that indefinite area in the lumber and iliac region which lies between the peritoneum and the posterior wall of the abdominal cavity. The term retroperitoneal cyst or tumor is usually confined by the pathologist to these arising from the structures situated in the retroperitoneal space. Retroperitoneal cysts are that of non-neoplastic nature and originated from retroperitoneal tumor Because the retroperitoneal space is rather extensive and adjacent organs are easily displaced, many of the cysts grow to a large size before giving any clinical manifestation. Frequently, when the patient is first seen, there is an indefinite abdominal mass the exact nature of which is obscure, and the diagnosis is not made until the time of surgical investigation.

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma is an uncommon pleomorphic tumor of the soft tissues possibly arising from the histiocyte. A case of huge malignant fibrous histiocytoma weighing 10.2kg in the retroperitoneal space is reported with brief review of literatures.

Sparganosis is infection by a sparganum, the genetic term for the plerocercoid larva of a pseudophyllidean tapewarm. The majority of infections in man are caused by raw consuming of snakes and frogs in Korea. Clinically, subcutaneous mass or lump was the most frequent problem but retroperitoneal mass was very rare. We treated a case of sparganosis invading the retroperitoneal space that was diagnosed initially as soft tissue tumor.

Korean Journal of Urology 1993;34(6):1076-1079
Schwannoma, also referred to as neurilemmoma, neurinoma, and perineural fibroblastoma, is the most frequent solitary tumor of the peripheral nerves. It is an encapsulated sheath tumor consisting or two components: a highly ordered cellular component( Antoni A area) and a loose, myxoid tomponent( Antoni B area ). It is usually solitary and may be benign or malignant, solid or cystic, encapsulated or diffuse. It rarely occurs in the retroperitoneal space. We report a very rare case of Schwannoma developed in the muscular layer of the bladder wall and review the relevant literatures.

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma is uncommon pleomorphic tumor of the soft tissues possibly arising from the histiocyte. A case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the retroperitoneum stimulated our interest in this uncommon and pathologically intriguing lesion. So we report a case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma in the retroperitoneal space.

Laparoscopic adrenalectomy has become a gold standard in adrenal gland surgery. More recently, some minimally invasive trials have been conducted on single access surgery on the adrenal gland. In this study, we introduce our first experiences of robot-assisted posterior retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy using single-port access and the da Vinci system.
