5.A Clinical Study on Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment.

Authors analysed the clinical characteristics and the surgical results of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in 70 patients(71 eyes) who were operated GNUH from Feb. 1990 to Feb. 1992. The clinical characteristics of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment were as follows. The result was myopia(39.4%) as the most common associated ocular finding, one break(57.7%) as the number of break, two quadrants(33.8%) as the extent of retinal detachmenthole(53.5%) as the type of break and superior temporal portion(56.3%) and anterior portion including equator(83.1%) as the location of break. The success rate of first operation was 87.3% and the overall success rate of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment maintained anatomical attachment above 6 months and exeluded 3 cases of refused reoperation was 92.3%. The type of break extent of detachment and duration of detachment were not influenced to surgical success rate statistically(P>0.05). The most common cause of first operative failure was proliferative vitreoretinopathy(57%).

6.A case of macan pucker after retinal detachment surgery.

The term, "macular pucker" first is described the star-shaped folds and wrinkles which sometimes appear on or near the macula after surgery for retinal detachment by Maumenee. These puckers, which has been described by Jungshaffer (1966) and Tanenbaum, Schepens, Elzeneiny, and Freeman (1970), are one of the most frequent causes of visual deterioration after successful reatachment of retina, but may also appear spontaneously in eyes which has not undergone surgery. A case of macular Pucker after a successful reatachment of the retina is presented in this report.

7.Choroidal Detachment after Pneumatic Retinopexy.

Pneumatic retinopexy is a new procedure that is effective in treating the uncomplicated cases of rhegmatogenous retinal detachments. The procedure of pneumatic retinopexy is composed of cryotherapy(photocoagulation), intraocular gas injection and postoperative positioning. The advantages of this procedure are less tissue damage, no hospitalization, reduced expense and minimal complication. For these reasons, this procedure has become popular retinal detachment surgeons. Peports of associated complications are still limited. The authors experienced one case of choroidal detachment after intraocular gas(SF6 gas) injection in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in pseudophakic eye.

10.A case report of Scleral Buckle implant mimicking an orbital tumor

Objective:
We report a case of a scleral buckle mimicking an orbital tumor 28 years after a retinal detachment repair.
Methods:
This is a case report.
Results:
A 75-year-old male consulted for progressive, painless blurred vision of the right eye. He had a history of scleral buckling surgery for retinal detachment on the right eye in 1990 that restored his vision. Examination showed right eye ophthalmoplegia and inferior displacement of the globe. Imaging revealed a right supero-temporal orbital mass. Excision of the encapsulated mass was performed. Histopathology revealed an acellular, amorphous, granular and eosinophilic material with no evidence of malignancy. These were consistent with a foreign body. Postoperatively, there were improvements in ocular motility and hypoglobus.
Conclusion
In patients who present with limited ocular motility and have undergone scleral buckling, hydrogel scleral buckle overexpansion should be considered. Excision of such implants is warranted to resolve the signs and symptoms and confirm the etiology.
