One hundred normal optic discs were analysed by fluorographic fundus pictures. Horizontal diameter of optic disc was set as 10. The following results were obtained. 1) The vertical diameter of optic disc was larger than the horizontal one. (10.77 : 10). 2) The ratio of diameters of cenitral retinal vein(CRV) was 1 : 1.51 before and 1 : 1.47 after fluorescein injection. 3) The central retinal artery(CRA) located nasal to the CRV in most cases. 4) In nearly half of cases, physiologic cups located at the nasal portion of optic discs. 5) The average size of physologic cup was 2.90. 6) The cilioretinal artery was detected in 58% of cases in which one cilioretinal artery was found in 42%, two was found in 16%. 7) The CRA made branchings more than retinal veins (7.74 : 5.48) and total sum of diameters of retinal artery was larger than that of retinal vein at the disc margin.

The cilio-retinal artery appears on the temporal side of the optic disc margin and is concerned with the supply of the portion between the optic disc and the macula. So, the cilio-retinal artery preserves vision when occlusion of the central retinal artery occurs. The aberrant macular artery is very rare and in most of the cases have been derived from the inferior temporal arterial or venous trunks. When this artery is appeared, the corrected vision is normal but sometimes diminished. The authors have experienced two aberrant retinal vessels of a large cilio-retinal artery and aberrant macular artery combined with the Stargardt's maculopathies. It was reviewed clinically with the literature.

Blockage of the retinal artery system may occur in the form of central retinal arterial obstruction, branch retinal arterial obstruction, or combination of aforementioned. It may be related to known pre-existing systemic disease or it may be the initial manifestation of a previous undiagnosed systemic abnormality. The authors evaluatea the clinical course of 35 cases of retinal artery occlusion at Department of Ophthalmology, Pusan Paik Hospital Inje Mgdical College from September, 1979 to June, 1988.

The authors present a case of central retinal artery occlusion successfully treated by surgery combined with medical treatment. The patient was a 53-year-old Korean female who had central retinal artery occlusion with 3 hours duration. Her vision was F.C. 20 cm on admission and improved to I.O by paracentesis followed by medical treatment for 9 days.

Carotid (angioplasty and) stenting is alternative treatment modality to carotid endartectomy, due to potential benefits in several indications. However, there are the diverse complications associated with this. We report a rare case of central retinal artery occlusion associated with carotid stenting.

Central retinal artery occlusion occurs rarely as a complication of spine surgery in prone position, but is quite tragic. The suggested cause are hypotensive anesthesia and increased external ocular pressure by headrest, sand bag or others. We experienced a case of left central retinal artery occlusion(CRAO) after surgery of C4-5 fracture-dislocation using a horseshoe headrest and report this case.
