OBJECTIVES: This study was carried out to assess psychosocial distress of lead workers and to examine the relationship between lead exposure indices and psychosocial distress. METHODS: The study design was cross-sectional and research subjects were 234 lead workers in primary smelting industry. General characteristics, job characteristics and social support were obtained by self-administered questionnaire and history taking. Psychosocial distress was measured using PWI(Psychosocial Well-being Index), a 45-item self-administered instrument. Blood lead(PbB), zinc protoporphyrin(ZPP), -aminolevulinic acid in urine(ALAU) were selected as indicators of lead exposure. RESULTS: There was significant difference in PWI according to lead exposure level and job characteristics. The results of correlation analysis showed that PWI was significantly correlated with PbB(r=0.203, P=0.002). CONCLUSIONS: Our results supported the association between lead exposure and psychosocial distress. The inclusion of psychosocial distress measurement as a special health examination for lead workers was highly recommended for the effective health management.

7.An Analysis of the Research on Effect of Smoking Cessation Intervention.
Journal of Korean Academy of Community Health Nursing 2008;19(3):469-479
PURPOSE: We reviewed all the articles on effect of smoking cessation intervention to find out the way of improvement of it. METHOD: 48 researches were published in Korean journals from 1980 to 2007. The research were analyzed according to: major of first author, subjects, application of theoretical framework, contents of intervention, a term of intervention, the time of evaluation on effect of interventions, research design, dependant variables, and effect of interventions. RESULTS: Research on effect of smoking cessation intervention increased rapidly in the 2000's. At this time. 72.9% of research was published. Most of research subject were students. Theoretical framework were applied in 20.8% of articles. The most common intervention was education(39.4%). The effect of combined program on outcome variable was found to be stronger than only education program. Experimental design was used in 29.2% and quasi-experimental design was adapted in 43.8% of articles. 1-6 months intervention was in 35.4%. The long term intervention more than 1month was found to be effective. Health behavior related index was measured as a dependant variable in 62.3%. CONCLUSION: Accordingly, long term program to apply to various subject is needed.

8.Past, Present, and Future of Clinical Research in Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology.
Journal of Korean Neuropsychiatric Association 2007;46(4):324-331
OBJECTIVE: The objectives are to deliver clinicians and researchers in academia the history, ethics, current principles, guidelines and issues of research in child and adolescent psychopharmacology and to identify challenges facing professionals in the field. METHODS: Children as research subjects were exploited and abused until the middle of 20th century. The response to the conduct of unethical research lead to the overprotection of human subjects in biomedical and behavioral research. In the 1990s, increased spending and the introduction of pediatric exclusivity lead to a large increase in pediatric psychopharmacologic research. Despite the increased number of research, concerns exist about methods and bioethics for making new medications available for use in child and adolescent psychiatric disorders. Through literature review and personal experience, concerns and issues surrounding the research in child and adolescent psychopharmacology were discussed. CONCLUSION: To ensure early access of new drugs for treating psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents, we must strengthen our ability to self-assess in the field of research, be familiar with bioethics and be able to address the challenges posed by the restrictive environment governing child and adolescent psychopharmacology research.

Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing 2001;13(4):571-580
"Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing" has been published since 1989 and more than 330 articles have been published up 2000. We reviewed all the articles published in this journal to analyze the contents and trend of published articles and to find out the way of improvement both in quantity and quality of studies in this area. The results are as follows; 1) Ninety percent of articles were quantitative studies. Experimental design was used in 16.1% and quasi-experimental design was adapted in 73.6% of articles. Qualitative research were 10.3% of total articles reviewed. 2) Only 5.1% of articles described theoretical framework and 73.6% of experimentally designed articles included research hypotheses. 3) Among experimental studies, only one was true experimental studie design. Eighty nine point three persent had descriptive survey method among non-experimental studies. Amog the thirty four qualitative studies, phenomenologic(73.5%), grounded theory(14.7%), and ethnographic (11.8%) design were used. 4) Most of research subject were patients and few healthy people, healthcare worker, and patient family. 5) Psychosocial data collection method which used questionnaire were 53.7% and interview, physical measurement, observation were used in 22.8%, 8.2%, 5.4% of articles respectively. 6) Total number of keywords were 692, and average number of key words per article was 2.2. Health-related keyword was the most frequently used according to four metaparadigm of nursing (human, health, nursing, and environment). Environment related keyword was rarely appeared. The number and quality of nursing research in "Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing" have been improved continuously. It is difficult to find out special trend or characteristics which is unique in this journal because of relatively short history of adult nursing studies. This review study was performed to analyze adult nursing studies only in the view of quantitative aspect, but it is needed to analyse qualitatively to find philosophical or theoretical trend in nursing.

Korean Journal of Endocrine Surgery 2012;12(1):21-27
PURPOSE: Periods of L-T4 withdrawal and low iodine diet, which are required prior to the treatment and tracking tests that take place after a thyroidectomy, can be of a long duration and cause suffering for patients. The purpose of this study, conducted in South Korea, was to confirm if periods of L-T4 withdrawal and low iodine diet can be shortened by using TSH level prediction. By inquiring into the correlation between TSH level and serum Tg level, and measurement of the amount of iodine present in urine during the low iodine diet period, a thyroglobulin (Tg) cutoff level can be predicted. METHODS: total of 168 patients were included as research subjects. In each case, L-T4 was suspended 3-4 weeks prior to conducting radioactive iodine ablation and 131I scan, and then a low iodine diet was carried out for 2-4 weeks. Serum TSH, Tg and anti-Tg antibodies were measured on the second week of L-T4 withdrawal, and the spot urine Iodine/Creatinine ratio was measured on the second and fourth week after treatment. RESULTS: Three weeks after L-T4 withdrawal, TSH levels increased to over 30μIU/ml in 97.2% of the patients, and serum thyroglobulin levels also increased with TSH level to over 30μIU/ml. There was no measured difference in the amount of iodine in the subject's urine during the low iodine diet period. CONCLUSION: It was found that L-T4 withdrawal can be reduced to 3 weeks or less, and that the Tg cutoff level differs according to TSH level. Based on these results, we suggested that the low iodine diet period can be reduced to 1-2 weeks.
