Journal of China Medical University 2016;45(12):1124-1127,1132
Objective To study the effect ofβ?sodium aescinate on the expressions of aquaporin?4 and aquaporin?9 in rats with spinal cord inju?ry. Methods A total of 150 rats were randomly divided into 3 groups:sham group(n=50),spinal cord injury(SCI)group(n=50)andβ?sodi?um aescinate group(n=50). The experimental animal models was established by modified Allen’s model. The Basso,Beattie and Bresnahan (BBB)locomotor rating scale and inclined plane test were used to evaluate rat behavioral consequences after injury. The immunohistochemical staining and western blotting assay were performed to observe the expressions of aquaporin?4 and aquaporin?9. Results Compared with sham group,BBB score and inclined plane test score of SCI group andβ?sodium aescinate group were significantly lower at each time point(P<0.05);however,the functional recovery was significantly better inβ?sodium aescinate group than in SCI group at each time point from 7 d after SCI(P<0.05). The aquaporin?4 and aquaporin?9 positive expressions of rats in sham group were lower significantly than rats in SCI group andβ?sodium aescinate group(P<0.05);however,the aquaporin 4 and aquaporin 9 positive expressions of rats inβ?sodium aescinate group was lower signifi?cantly than rats in SCI group at each time point(P<0.05). Conclusion β?sodium aescinate can protect the neurologic function in rats with spi?nal cord injury by decreasing aquaporin?4 and aquaporin?9 protein expression.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2014;31(6):1207-1211
In this paper, the Fourier transform based minimum mean square error (FT-based MMSE) method is used to calculate the regional cerebral blood volume (rCBV) in magnetic resonance (MR) perfusion imaging, and the method is improved to handle the existing noise in the imaging process. In the experiments with signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 50 dB, the rCBV values were compared with the results using MMSE method. The effects of different SNRs on the estimation of rCBV were analyzed. The experimental results showed that MMSE was a simple way to filter the measurement noise, and could calculate rCBV accurately. Compared with other existing methods, the present method is not sensitive to environment, and furthermore, it is suitable to deal with the perfusion images acquired from the environment with larger SNR.

Objective:To investigate the serum level of miR-224 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients and its clinical diag-nostic significance. Methods:The serum level of miR-224 was detected by real-time quantitative PCR. This study included 42 cases of patients with HCC, 36 patients with liver cirrhosis (LC), 55 patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB), and 40 healthy persons (NC). The relative expressions of miR-224 were calculated. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were analyzed to determine the sensitivity and specificity of miR-224 expression levels in HCC diagnosis. Results:Result shows that the relative miR-224 expression was higher in the serum of HCC patients than that in the CHB, LC, and NC groups. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05 or P<0.01). The relative miR-224 expression in the serum of HCC patients and alpha fetoprotein (AFP) were positively correlated (P<0.05). By comparison, the tumor size, TNM stage, tumor differentiation, and lymph node metastasis were not correlated with mirR-224 expression (P>0.05). ROC analysis shows that the best critical value of the relative expression levels of miR-224 was 3.47, with sensi-tivity of 82.2%, specificity of 92.8%, and area under the curve of 0.935. Conclusion:The serum level of miR-224 in HCC patients has high specificity, and miR-224 has great potential to become a new serological marker for the diagnosis of HCC.

Objective:To investigate the onset of hepatic artery-portal vein shunts (HAPVS) in primary liver cancer (PLC) pa-tients through digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and to devise a suitable strategy for treating both lesions and shunt tracts. In the process, the therapeutic effect on such patients can be enhanced. Methods:A total of 769 PLC patients who accepted transarterial che-moembolization (TACE) were analyzed retrospectively. We examined the image characteristics of 112 cases with HAPVS based on shunt type. For patients with middle or severe fistula, we initially attempted to overpass the fistula. Then, we either embolized the tumor lesions or merely provided chemotherapy to the patients. For patients with mild peripheral fistula, we embolized the tumor and fistula si-multaneously. Then, the accompanying arterial-vein shunt and portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) were handled at the same time. Re-sults: DSA findings showed that portal veins were observed in the early stage of angiography. A total of 52 of the 112 cases with HAPVS involved mild shunts, 34 exhibited moderate shunts, and 26 reported severe shunts. Among these cases, 31 involved central-and central peripheral-type artery-portal vein fistula, whereas 81 involved peripheral-type artery-portal vein fistula. Seven cases were examined in combination with hepatic artery-liver vein shunts, and 50 cases were investigated in conjunction with PVTT. Tumor embo-lization was successful in 101 cases (90.1%). Moreover, catheters successfully overpassed shunt tracts and embolized the tumors in 48 cases (42.9%). Shunt tracts were successfully closed in 74 cases (66.1%), and no serious complication was observed. Conclusion:Pe-ripheral-type artery-portal vein fistula and mild-to-moderate shunts were easier to close than central-type artery-portal vein fistula and severe shunts were. Tumor embolization and shunt closure were successful in most patients. Therefore, TACE is a safe and reliable method for treating HAPVS in PLC.

Objective To investigate the correlation between diabetic distress and coping styles among patients with type 2 diabetes. Method One hundred inpatients with type 2 diabetes were engaged in the investigation of their diabetes distress and coping styles by the diabetes distress scale (DDS) and medical coping modes questionnaire (MCMQ) and the correlation between them. Results The average score of diabetic distress was (2.17 ± 0.71), which was at mild level. 57%of them were at the higher level of diabetic distress. Confrontation and avoidance dimensions were lower than the norm in coping styles, and the acceptance dimension was higher than the norm (all P<0.01). The average scores of diabetic distress, regimen-related distress and physician-related distress subscales were negatively correlated with confrontation (all P<0.05). The average score on diabetic distress and the subscales were positively correlated with avoidance and acceptance dimension (all P<0.01). Conclusions Diabetic distress is prevalent in type 2 diabetic patients and the degree of positive coping is still not insufficient. The diabetic distress is negatively correlated to the confrontation, and positively correlated to the avoidance and the acceptance dimension. The medical staff should instruct the patients to adopt positive coping styles, and avoid negative coping styles to reduce diabetic distress. It will be conductive to the physical and mental rehabilitation of the patients as well.
