2.Primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma: clinical analysis of 19 cases

Objective To study clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, as well as effect of surgical operation, of primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma (PMBCL).Methods Data of 19 patients of PMBCL with complete clinical and pathological records hospitalized at Peking Union Medical College Hospital during 1998 to 2008 were retrospectively reviewed and analyzed.Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate their survival time and survival rate in comparison of efficacy in those with surgical operation to those without it.Results Overall three-year survival rate was 54% for all the 19 patients, 55% for those with surgical operation and 54% without it, respectively, with an average survival time of 44 months, 44 months for those with surgical operation and 42 months without it, respectively, but not reaching at statistical significance.Symptoms of superior vena cava syndrome in five cases at admission relieved immediately after surgical operation, but symptoms of superior vena cava syndrome in three of nine cases in non-surgical group relieved gradually one to three weeks after chemotherapy.Conclusions Surgical operation has no significant effect on survival in patients with PMBCL, but it can relieve syndrome of superior vena cava syndrome and provide accurate pathological diagnosis.
3.Clinical analysis of treatment outcome for 559 patients with endometrial cancer

Background and purpose:With the recognition of prognostic factors and application of surgical- pathological staging,the treatment strategy of endometrial cancer has greatly changed.In this study,we investigated the treatment strategy,survival rate and prognostic factors of endometrial cancer.Methods:Five hundred and fifty-nine patients of endometrial cancer underwent primary surgical treatment from January 1996 to December 2006 in Cancer Hospital,Fudan University.The clinicopathologic parameters and prognosis were analyzed retrospectively.Results: Patients were followed up with the median period 36 months,25 cases experienced local relapse,24 cases were found to have distant metastases.The 3-year overall survival(OS)was 88.7%,3-year and 5-year disease free survival(DFS) was 82.7% and 80.9%.The 3-year overall survival(OS)were 95.5% in stageⅠ,95.3% in stageⅡ,75.9% in stageⅢand 32.4% in stageⅣrespectively(P

Objective: To chine and express the recombinant human endothelial monocyte-activating polypeptide-Ⅱ(EMAP-Ⅱ)and identify its anti-tumor biological activities.Methods: EMAP-Ⅱ_(147-312)was expressed by the expression vector pMAL-p2x and E.coli BL-21 and the product was purified.The production of tissue factor(TF)in human umbili- cal vein endothelial cell ECV-304 mediated by the recombinant EMAP-Ⅱwas determined by chemiluminescence sub- strate.The promoting effect of recombinant EMAP-Ⅱon TNF?-induced ECV-304 cell.Apoptosis was determined by flow cytometry.Its inhibitory effect on human pancreaic cancer cell SW1990 proliferation was determined by MTT method. 5.A HISTOPATHOLOGIC IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL AND ULTRASTRUCTURAL STUDY OF RABBIT CORNEA AFTER EXCIMER LASER PHOTOREFRACTIVE KERATECTOMY

Oblective To evaluate the corneal healing of non-epuality diopter response histopathologically,immunohistochemically and ultrastructurally after excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy(PRK) with SVS APEX PLUS(Summit Technology Inc. USA) excimer laser, and the effects of corticosteroid on the healing. Methods PRK on 6 white rabbits(12 eyes) was performed on right eye of the rabbit for an attampted correction of -4.00 diopter and on left eye for an attempted correction of -8.00 diopter. The rabbits were divided into 2 groups randomly and each group included 6 eyes: Group FLM (3 rabbits, 6 eyes) and group CM (3 rabbits, 6 eyes). Fluoromethalone was given to group FLM,and chloromycetin to group CM. On 10d, 30d and 100d ,the eyes of one rabbit in each group were enucleated randomly. Half of each cornea was prepared for electron microscope observation (SEM and TEM)and the rest embedded in OCT compound for immunohistochemical study to examine Ⅲ -C and FN. Results All eyes were reepithelialized within 3d after PRK. Subepithelial corneal haze was observed on 15d,which was dominant on 30 or 60d. On 100d postoperatively,corneal hazes of 11 eyes were grades 0 or 0. 5,only 1 eye(the left eye of group CM) was denser haze (grade 1). On 3d postoperatively, one or two layers of corneal epithelial cell covered the ablation zone. On 30d after PRK,the epithelial cells showed hyperplastic changes. The cells were larger and increased from normal 5 or 6 layers to 7 or 8 layers of cells on 100d after PRK,epithelium was clear with more bright epithelium. Microplicae and microvilli were less than before. The expression of Ⅲ -C and FN in group CM was significantly more evident than that in group FLM. Conclusion The study show that despite recovery of a continuous and smooth epithelial layer and nearly normal corneal tissues on 100d after PRK,abnormalities of both epithelium and superficial stroma can be detected in the area of ablation. The ablation depth of stroma can influence the appearance of corneal haze after PRK. The microplicae and microvilli of rabbit cornea epithelium become less after PRK,which can be one of cause leading to ocular dry sensation in some patients.
6.Identification of two varieties of Citri Fructus by fingerprint and chemometrics.

Citri Fructus identification by fingerprint and chemometrics was investigated in this paper. Twenty-three Citri Fructus samples were collected which referred to two varieties as Cirtus wilsonii and C. medica recorded in Chinese Pharmacopoeia. HPLC chromatograms were obtained. The components were partly identified by reference substances, and then common pattern was established for chemometrics analysis. Similarity analysis, principal component analysis (PCA) , partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) and hierarchical cluster analysis heatmap were applied. The results indicated that C. wilsonii and C. medica could be ideally classified with common pattern contained twenty-five characteristic peaks. Besides, preliminary pattern recognition had verified the chemometrics analytical results. Absolute peak area (APA) was used for relevant quantitative analysis, results showed the differences between two varieties and it was valuable for further quality control as selection of characteristic components.

8.Relationship between chronic kidney disease and cerebral small vessel disease in elderly patients

ObjectiveTo explore the relationship between chronic kidney disease (CKD) and cerebral small vessel disease (SVD) in elderly patients. MethodsOne hundred and fifty-two elderly male CKD patients for experimental group and 158 elderly male for control group were recruited. Demographic data and vascular risk factors were recorded. White matter lesion (WML) was semi-quantitatively assessed by cerebral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and lacunar infarction (LI) was also calculated. Results(1) The prevalenees of hypertentsion and diabetes mellitus were higher in elderly CKD patients than those in control group (30. 9% vs. 19.0%, 23.7%vs. 14.6%;both P~0. 05). (2) The percentages of grade 2 and grade 3 WMLs were higher in elderly CKD patients than those in control group (34.9% vs. 24.1%, 25.7% vs. 16.5%;both P<0.05). Prevalence of LI was higher in elderly CKD patients than that in control group (45.4% vs.25.3% ,X2= 13. 70, P<0. 05). The similar Resultswere also obtained except for control subjects with hypertension and diabetes mellitus. (3) The logistic regression analysis showed that age, hypertension and low glomerular filtration rate (GFR) were closely associated with SVD in elderly CKD patients. ConclusionsHypertention and diabetes mellitus are risk factors for CKD in elderly patients. SVD is associated with CKD, and age, hypertension and low GFR may be risk factors for SVD in elderly CKD patients.

AIM:To investigate whether Smad pathway participates the process of extracellular signal regulated kinase (ERK) induced the proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). METHODS: Human umbilical artery smooth muscle cells (hUASMCs) were divided into four groups: control group, PDGF (platelet derived growth factor) group, ERK blocking agent group and PDGF+ERK blocking agent group. MTT assay was used to detect the proliferation of hUASMCs (A value). Immunohistochemical technique was used to detect the expression of PCNA, phosphorylated ERK (p-ERK) and phosphorylated Smad2/3 (p-Smad2/3) protein in hUASMCs. The expression of Smad2/3 mRNA in hUASMCs was detected by RT-PCR. A laboratory scale combination process of anaerobic baffled reactor(ABR) with sequencing batch reactor(SBR) for treatment of real dyeing wastewater was studied.The effects of operational conditions were investigated.The results demonstrated that removal rates of COD,colour and aniline were 32%~95%,89%~99% and 50%~98%,respectively,the effluents of COD were 30.0 ~97.1mg/L,colour were 8 ~40 times dilution ratio,concentration of aniline were 0.20 ~0.95 mg/L,which could meet the National Discharge Criteria(GradeⅠ) under the operational conditions of HRTs of 24~36 h,organic loading rates of 0.43 ~2.46 kg COD/(m~(3)?d),the influent pH values of 6.5~8.0,ambient temperatures of 20℃~35℃ at the ABR stage and DOs of 2 mg/L,reaction times of 3~10h,settle times of 2 h at the SBR stage.
