1.Effect of basic fibroblast growth factor on endogenous neural stem cell in rat cerebral cortex with global cerebral ischemia-reperfusion.

The present paper is aimedto investigate the effect of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) on proliferation, migration and differentiation of endogenous neural stem cell in rat cerebral cortex with global brain ischemia-reperfusion. A global brain ischemia-reperfusion model was established. Immunohistochemistry was used to observe the pathological changes and the expression of BrdU and Nestin in cerebral cortex. RT-PCR was used to measure the NSE mRNA in brain tissue. The results of measurements indicated that in sham operation group, there was no positive cell in cerebral cortex, and the content of NSE mRNA did not change. In the operation group, the expression of BrdU and Nestin increased significantly at the end of the 3rd day, and peaked on the 7th day. NSE mRNA expression did not significantly increase. In bFGF group, compared with sham operation group and model group, the number of BrdU-positive and Nestin-positive cells increased significantly at each time point (P<0. 05), and peaked at the end of the 11th day, and the content of NSE mRNA increased significantly (P<0. 05). This research demonstrated that the proliferation of endogenous neural stem cells in situ could be induced by global cerebral ischemia and reperfu- sion, and could be promoted and extended by bFGF. In additiion, bFGF might promote endogenous neural stem cells differentiated into neurons.

2.A comparative study of cone-beam computed tomography and periapical radiography in the diagnosis of external apical root resorption

Objective To compare the accuracy of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT ) and periapical radiography in the diagnosis of simulated external apical root resorption (EARR) .Methods The study sample comprised 160 single-rooted premolars for simulating 4 degrees of EARR :no(intact teeth) ,mild(cavity of 1 .0 mm in diameter and depth in root surface) ,moderate(1 .0 mm root shortening) ,and severe(3 .0 mm root shortening) .Two sets of radiographic images were acquired with CBCT and periapi-cal radiography .The severity for all resorption lesions were evaluated blindly by one calibrated examiner .The percentages of correct classification of each degree of EARR were compared between the two imaging techniques using McNemar test .Results With CBCT method ,the percentages of correct classification of no ,mild ,moderate ,severe and all EARR were 95 .0% ,97 .5% ,42 .5% , 87 .5% and 80 .6% ,respectively ;with periapical radiography method ,the percentages were 85 .0% ,42 .5% ,70 .0% ,92 .5% and 72 .5% ,respectively .Significant differences were found between the two imaging techniques for evaluating mild ,moderate ,and all-EARR(P<0 .05) .Conclusion CBCT imaging is more reliable than periapical radiography for detecting EARR ,whereas it is not sensitive to moderate root shortening .In orthodontic practices ,CBCT could be applied to the early diagnosis of EARR ,in order to help make the decision on continuation and modification of orthodontic treatment .

Objective To provide the evidence for health management decision-making and rational use of drugs grass root clinics by studying their drug prescription rules.Methods The prescribed drugs in clinics of 5 township health centers from September 2012 to September 2014 were retrieved from The Management Information System of Sichuan Grass Root Medical Institutions.Their big data were analyzed using R language.Results The commonly pre-scribed drugs in clinics were vitamin B6, vitamin C and cefixime tablets, which were usually used in combination. Conclusion Health administrative organizations can strengthen their supervision and management of prescribed drugs and promote their rational use in grass root clinics using unified management information system of grass root medical institutions in combination with information technology .

The Offsite Medical Accounting Information Supervising System was developed for patients of Sichuan new rural cooperative medical scheme (NRCMS) using the C#programming language under .NET development environ-ment based on Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 in order to solve the problems in offsite medical accounting information statistics and supervision for patients of NRCMS.The system is a B/S-based MVP 3-tier structure with VPN hard-ware firewall and VPN client software plus certificate built-in, and can thus be used to supervise the offsite medical accounting for patients of NRCMS, analyze their medical advice seeking indexes at other places, and provide data for the NRCMS fund management .

7.Application of CFD mesh generation technology in finite element modeling of skeleton

Objective To study high-quality and high efficient meshing methods for skeleton.Methods Based on characteristics of bone structure,the mesh generation technology of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was applied in mesh generation for bone biomechanics.Hexahedron elements and tetrahedron elements were used to simulate cortical bone and cancellous bone,respectively.Results By using CFD mesh generation technology,high-quality hexahedral elements could be obtained,the structure characteristics of skeleton could be preferably simulated,and computer automatic meshing could be implemented.The amount of time for meshing bones by the new method was only about 1/5 of that by the traditional method,and the calculation results obtained from the finite element model were basically consistent with the results from the cadaver experiment.Conclusions The CFD mesh generation technology can be applied in the field of bone biomechanics,which provides an effective approach to reconstruct complex human skeleton.
8.Effect of willed movement therapy on the expression of neurotrophin 3 and growth-associated protein 43 in rats with cerebral ischemia reperfusion.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of willed movement therapy on the expression of neurotrophin 3 (NT-3) and growth associated protein 43 (GAP-43) in rats with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (IR) and investigate the neuroprotective mechanism of willed movement therapy in nerve regeneration and repair.
METHODSCerebral IR model was established by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) in SD rats. The rats were randomly divided into MCAO group, environment modification group (EM group) and willed movement therapy group (WM group). The rats were evaluated for neurological deficits and decapitated on days 3, 7 and 15 after the reperfusion to examine the expressions of NT-3 and GAP-43 in the ischemic brain tissues by immunohistochemistry.
RESULTSCompared with MCAO and EM groups, the rats in WM group showed significantly lowered grade of neurological deficits (P<0.05) at 15 days and significantly increased the expressions of NT-3 and GAP-43 (P<0.05) at 7 and 15 days after the reperfusion. No significant difference was found in the expression of NT-3 and GAP-43 between MCAO and EM groups (P>0.05). The expression of NT-3 was positively correlated to that of GAP-43 in the ischemic tissues.
CONCLUSIONSWilled movement therapy increases the expression of NT-3 and GAP-43 in the ischemic brain area in rats with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion, which is probably related to nerve regeneration and repair.

9.Correlation between serum adiponectin level and cognitive function in patients with Alzheimer's disease.

OBJECTIVETo investigate serum adiponectin level in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and its correlation with the patients' cognitive function.
METHODSThis case-control study was conducted in 90 patients with a highly probable diagnosis ofAD, who were divided into mild, moderate and severe group saccording to the MMSE score. Ninety healthy subjects matched for age and gender with the AD patients were selected as the control group. The serum levels ofadiponectin in the participants were detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
RESULTSSerum adiponectin level was significantly lower in the AD group than in the control group (P<0.05). Of the 3 subgroups of the AD patients, the moderate and severe AD groups showed significantly lower serum adiponectin level sthan the control group (P<0.05), but the difference in adiponectin levels was not significant between the mild AD group and the control group (P>0.05); serum adiponectin levels also differed significantly among the 3 subgroups of AD patients (P<0.05). Serum adiponectin level was positively correlated with the MMSE score in the AD patients (r=0.683, P<0.001).
CONCLUSIONSerum adiponectin levels are reduced in AD patients and associated with the degree of cognitive impairment.

10.Effect of willed movement therapy on GFAP and SYP expression in rats with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion.

OBJECTIVETo determine the effect of willed movement on the expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and synaptophysin (SYP) in adult rats with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion, and explore the mechanism of willed movement in promoting nerve repair and regeneration.
METHODSAdult rat models of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury were established by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) for 2 h followed by a 24-h reperfusion. The models were then divided randomly into 3 groups, namely the model group, environmental modification (EM) group, and willed movement (WM) group. In each group, neurological deficits were evaluated at 3, 7 and 15 days after reperfusion. Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence assay were employed to examine the expression of GFAP and SYP in the brain tissue near the ischemic foci.
RESULTSThe rats in WM group showed lessened neurological deficits at 15 days and lowered expression of GFAP and SYP at 7 and 15 days after reperfusion compared with the model and EM groups (P<0.05). No significant difference was found in the expression of GFAP or SYP between the model group and EM group at any time points.
CONCLUSIONWilled movement can promote the functional recovery of neurological deficits following cerebral ischemia-reperfusion probably in relation to enhanced GFAP and SYP expressions in the ischemic brain tissues.
