The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of phase 1 cardiac rehabilitation nursing care on cardiac rehabilitation knowledge, anxiety, and self-care behavior in patients with acture myocardial infarction. The study design was composed of a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design and a non-equivalent control group post-test design. The subjects of the study consisted of thirty-four acute myocardial infarction patients hospitalized at a university hospital in Taegu between February 16, 1998 and May 12, 1998. the 34 research subjects were assigned to experimental( 17 patients ) and control( 17 patients ) groups. The phase 1 cardiac rehabilitation nursing care was composed of cardiac rehabilitation education taken from a rehabilitation manual and booklet, and participating in a progressive exercise program. After discharge, a phone interview was conducted in order to encourage the self-care behavior. The modified Knowledge Scale developed by Rahe et al.(1975) and translated into Korean by Hwang(1986), and the modified Self-Care Scale of exercise and diet based on Hickey et al.(1992), were used for data collection. Analysis of data was done by use of Chi-square test, t-test, Repeated measure ANOVA, Simple Main Effect, and Time contrast. The results of this study are as follows : 1. The first hypothesis, "The experimental group which received the phase 1 cardiac rehabilitation nursing care will have a higher level of knowledge than the control group", was supported(F=24.07, p=.000). 3. The third hypothesis, "The experimental group which received the phase 1 cardiac rehabilitation nursing care will have higher self-care behavior scores than the control group", was supported( t=-15.49, p=.000 ). From the above results, it can be concluded that phase 1 cardiac rehabilitation nursing care is an effective nursing intervention knowledge, reducing anxiety, and improving self-care behavior in patients with acute myocardial infarction.

This study is a descriptive survey conducted for the purpose of providing basic data to develop the effective nursing in interventions for Coronary Heart Disease patients. It was focused the relations between the type A behavior pattern and Health Locus of Control of them datd were collected through face-to-face interview with 55 CHD patients who were hospitalized at one of the general hospitals in Taegu city from May 11 to July 27, 1977. The instruments used for this studyy were the Jenkiness Activity Scale(Jenkins, 1979) and Health Locus of Control Scale(Wallstone & Wallston, 1978). Analysis of data was done by using of Person Correlation Coefficient, t-test, ANOVA, stepwise multiple regression and Cronbach with the SAS program. The results were as follows; 1. Total type A behavior pattern score was 67.2(total 88), job involvement /hard-driving subscale 35.9(total 47), sped subscale 12.8(total 16) and impatient subscale 19.09(total 25). The highest score of the type A pattern was the speed subscale 3.75 when it was transferred as a full mark 4. 2. When the total score of Health Locus of Control Scale of CHD was made 5, internal health locus control was the highest with 3.9, powerful others health locus control 3.6 and chance health locus control 3.0. 3. Women were significantly higher than men on total type A behavior pattern(p=.0453), job involvement/hard-driving subscale(p=.0492) and impatient subscale(p=.0460) according to general characteristics. Angina pectoris patients showed significantly higher than myocardial Infarction patients in total type A behavior pattern score(p=.0266), involvement/hard-driving subscale(p=.0365) and impatient subscale(p=.0185). 4. It was not significantly different for the Health Locus of Control Scale according to general characteristics. 5. Correlations between subscales of type A behavior pattern and subscales of Health Locus of Control showed that there were significantly positive correlation between internal health locus control and job-involvement/ hard-driving subscale(p=.0500), and between powerful others health locus control and important subscale(p=.0204). 6. The variances that can explain the causes of type A behavior pattern were systolic blood pressure 9%, quantity of smoking per day 9.6%, dyastolic blood pressure 8.6%, internal health locus control 6.2%, which accounted for 34.3% of the total variances. The following suggestions are made on the basis above results ; 1) The instrument that measures type A behavior pattern of CHD patient need to be modified and developed as an instrument that is applicable with Korea environment and easy to understand for subjects. 2) Replication of the research is need with nation wide samples. 3) Follow-up study for correlation between subscale of the type A behavior pattern and subscale of Health Locus of Control is needed. 4) Intervention program for CHD patients to reduce type A behavior pattern is to be developed.

The purpose of this study was to identify the children's sleeping patterns, such as the sleeping hours and the nature of sleep disruptions following hospitalization and its accompanying factor. The data were collected from December, 1997 to March, 1998 using a questionnaire developed by researchers. The subjects were 76 children in a hospital. The results of this study were summarized as follows : 1. The average sleeping hours(sleep duration) at night were 10 hours and 10 minutes and 9 hours and 9 minutes before and after hospitalization respectively. There was a significant difference(P<0.01). 2. The mean bed time(sleep onset) was 10:22 pm and 10:28 pm before and after hospitalization respectively. There was no significant difference. 3. The mean hour of rising(sleep termination) was 7:54 am 7:08 am before and after hospitalization respectively. There was a significant difference(P<0.01). 4. The mean number of sleep disruption was 0.72 and 1.94 before and after hospitalization respectively. There was a significant difference(P<0.01). The sleep disruptions were influenced by crying of other children(53.9%), lights(28.9%) nursing procedures(18.4%), noise of TV(17.1%) and noise of visitors(15.8%).

This study was done to compare the breast-feeding primiparas' perceptions of their babies with bottle-feeding primiparas' at 2-3 days after delivery. The subjects of this study included 42 breast-feeding mothers and 56 bottle-feeding mothers. Data were collected by using the Neonatal Perception Inventory(NPI) devised by Broussard(1963) and added by Lee, Ja Hyung(1986) form December, 1996 to June, 1997. The results of this study are as follows : 1. Primiparas perceptions of their babies according to their general characteristics. 1) There was no significant difference in mothers' perceptions according to mothers' age and whether they have a job or not. 2) There was a difference in mothers' perceptions according to their educational level(P<0.1). 2. The comparisons of breast-feeding mothers' perceptions of their babies with bottle-feeding mothers'. 1) There was no significant difference in the two group's perceptions of other babies 2) There was no significant difference in the two group's perceptions of their own babies. (1) Breast-feeding mothers' general perceptions of their own babies were better than bottle-feeding mothers', but there was (2) Breast-feeding mothers' perceptions about the basic needs of their own babies were better than bottle-feeding mothers', and there was a significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05). (3) Breast-feeding mothers' perceptions about the sense and motor abilities of their own babies were better than bottle-feeding mothers', but there was no significant difference between the two groups. (4) Breast-feeding mother's perceptions about the necessary care of their own babies were lower than bottle-feeding mothers', but there was no significant difference between the two group. 3) There was no significant difference between the two groups' positive-negative perceptions of their babies (1) 69% of breast-feeding mothers and 69.9% of bottle-feeding mothers had positive perceptions about general conditions, but there was no significant difference between the two groups (2) 57.1% of breast-feeding mothers and 46.4% of bottle-feeding mothers had positive perceptions about the needs of babies, but there was no significant difference between the two groups. (3) 50% of breast-feeding mothers and 48.2% of bottle-feeding mothers had positive perceptions about the sense and motor abilities of babies, but there was no significant difference between the two groups. (4) 57.1% of breast-feeding mothers and 60.7% of bottle-feeding mothers had positive perceptions about the necessary care for babies, but there was no significant difference between the two groups. 3. 54.8% of breast-feeding mothers tried to feed their own babies on the 1st day after delivery. 83.3% of breast-feeding mothers chose the feeding method for themselves. Only 9.5% of breast-feeding mothers took recommendations for breast-feeding from nurses. 78.6% of breast-feeding mothers had no chance to learn about breast-feeding. 69% of breast-feeding mothers complained about the difficulties of breast-feeding. The most serious problems were : 'insufficient milk supply', 'lack of knowledge about feeding technique' and 'problems with nipples'.

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to identify the relationships between knowledge about osteoporosis, outcome expectations for exercise, and self-efficacy for exercise in older women with osteoporosis. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study. Participants were 148 women aged 60 years and older who were diagnosed with osteoporosis. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. RESULTS: Statistically significant differences in knowledge about osteoporosis were found in age, education level, household income, type of household, chronic disease, medication, alcohol consumption, and perceived health status. Statistically significant differences in outcome expectations for exercise were observed in age, education level, household income, type of household, chronic disease, medication, body mass index, and perceived health status. Statistically significant differences in self-efficacy for exercise were observed in age, household income, chronic disease, and medication. In addition, it was found that knowledge of osteoporosis and self-efficacy for exercise were positively correlated with outcome expectations for exercise. CONCLUSION Based on this study, the development of a physical activity program is necessary by considering knowledge about osteoporosis, outcome expectation for exercise, and self-efficacy for exercise.

Phycomycosis is an uncommon opportunistic fungal infection, involving several organs, such as brain, lungs, gastrointestinal tract and skin. Invasion of joint cavity by phycomycetes, however, has never been reported. We report a case of 33-year-old male who had had prehallux with congenital equinovarus and underwent correction operation on the right ankle joint. There after, joint pain and edema had developed on that site. He received reoperation and underwent excisional biopsy from there. Operation showed hypertrophied yellowish synovium. On microscopic examination, the tissue showed several foci of fibrinoid necrosis and suppurative and granulomatuous inflammation. Periodic acid Schiff stain demonstrated broad. Aseptate hyphae that were wrinkled and folded.

Improvement of lichen planus was achieved by 11 weeks of daily oral treatment with griseofulvin. The patient was 59-year-old male, has had hypertension and diabetes mellitus for 9 months, and history of various drug intake to these diseses for 6 months. Four months before first visit, symptome of lichen planus had developed suddenly. Because of treatment failure of oral antihistamine and topical steroid for 6 weeks, we began to use griseofulvin. Praspective studies are needed to better assess the affectiveness of griseafulvin in the treatment of lichen planus.

PURPOSE: To investigate changes in mother's stress, degree of depression and level of milk secretion hormones when the mothers provided massage to their new born babies. METHOD: The study was conducted with 65 women who had delivered at a convalescence institute in Incheon between Sep 25, 2003 and Feb 10, 2004. The mothers were assigned to a control group or an experimental group. Infants of mothers in the experimental group received massage from their mothers twice a day for 10 days beginning on the 4th day after delivery. The data were processed using chi square-test, paired t-test and repeated measures ANOVA using the SAS program. RESULTS: The level of cortisol, a stress hormone and depression were significantly different between the two groups (p=0.01;p=0.02). While for plasma prolactin level, a milk secretion hormone, there was no significant difference(p=0.14). CONCLUSIONS: When massage was provided to new-born babies the cortisol level of the mothers decreased significantly compared to the control group which did not receive the massage. As the level of depression of the control group declined as time passed while the experiment group showed no difference and there was no difference in the plasma prolactin level, further study is suggested.
