1.Using a new type of inflatable boot in the rehabilitation of Danis-Weber type-A ankle fractures
Chinese Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation 2010;32(6):431-434
Objective To test the utility of a new type of inflatable rehabilitation boot in the treatment of Danis-Weber type-A stable external malleolus fractures. Methods Fifty-four patients with stable external malleolus fractures were randomized into two groups. After closed reduction, the observation group was treated by immobilisation with the inflatable rehabilitation boot and the control group with a plaster slab. All were instructed to avoid weight-bearing on the affected side. The swelling volume of the injured limb was measured by drainage measurement before treatment and at the 1st, 3rd and 7th days after treatment. Pain was evaluated using a visual analogue scale (VAS) score before treatment and after 12, 24 and 72 hours. All of the ankles were x-rayed to recheck for displacement after 2weeks. Results The average volume of the injured limbs in the observation group was significantly less than in the control group at every time point. The average VAS score in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group. Fracture displacement in the observation group was also significantly better. Conclusions The inflatable rehabilitation boot has better curative efficacy than the typical plaster slab for patients with stable external malleolus fractures in terms of improving edema in the injured limb, relieving pain and preventing fracture displacement.

Objective To compare the sensitivity and specificity of NMP 22 test with voided urine cytology in detection of bladder cancer and to evaluate their clinical values. Methods For 155 patients suspected with bladder cancer NMP 22 and cytology were conducted in the same voided urine samples.Of them 95 patients with bladder transitional cell carcinoma were confirmed histologically. The sensitivity and specificity of NMP 22 and urine cytology were analyzed.60 patients without bladder cancer were selected as control. Results The overall sensitivity and specificity of NMP 22 test were 65.3% and 70.0%,respectively,those of urine cytology were 43.2% and 83.3%,respectively.There was no significant difference between the specificity of urine cytology and that of NMP 22 test;however,NMP 22 was significantly more sensitive than urine cytology in detection of any stages and grades of bladder cancer(P

BACKGROUND:Polylactic acid(PLA)surface is hydrophobic and there are no nataral recognition sites,so its application is limited. Many different strategies have been studied such as composition and chemical Drafting,to produce hydrophilic groups. However, these traditional methods are always involved in complex process and many organic reagents, resulting in decrease of biocompatibility.OBJECTIVE:To conduct the surfacr modification of PL.A and improve its hydrophilicity with low temperature plasma treatment.DESIGN:Controlled observation.SETTING:Department of Materials Science and Engineering in Jinan University.MATERIAIS:The experiment was processed from October 2004 to October 2005 at Guangzhou Research Center of Artificial Organs and Materials Engineering(Ministry of Education). The mainly used materials were:Poly-D,L-lactic acid(Mr 2.9×104,Shandong Medical Instrument Institute),N-vinyl-pyrrolidone(NVP,Acros Company, purified before use).METHODS:The materials were treated in the plasma reactor under different conditions(power=150 W,t=3,2,1 minutes;power=30 W,t=10,8,5,3,1 minutes)to choose the optimal condition, and then PLA were grafted with NVP by gas phase polymerization and liquid polymerization, respectively.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:THe surface morphology of the films was observed with scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The hydrophilicity of native and treated material surfaces was measured using a water contact angle meter.Surface composition was detected with Fourier transform infrared spectrometer.Mass changesmeasurement was applied to characterize the grafting efficiency.RESULTS:Scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy showed that the plasma medified materials possessed coarse surface with pores and notches.Water contact angles decreased obviously from 78°to 50°after grafting,Fourier transform infrared spectrometer showed a new absorption peak at 1 637.19 cm-1,which corresponded to the carbonyl stretch vibration absorption of amide group in poly-N-vinyl-pyrrolidone.After the plasma treatmerlt at low temperature.the mass change ratio of PLA film material was-0.6.CONCLUSION:The plasma treatment and polymerization can improve the hydrophilicity and cause coarsr surface of PLA material, which will be helpful for the cell attachment.

Objective Determine the common syndrome elements of viral hepatitis. Methods Refering to the syndrome elements hypothesis proposed by Zhang Zhibin, syndrome elements from the collection of 19,341 cases of Viral Hepatitis were extracted which were diagnosed by National Science and Technology Major Project of AIDS and Viral Hepatitis and Other Major Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control. And the results were compared with industry standards. Results There were 27 involved syndrome elements of viral hepatitis.Common syndrome elements were Qi stagnation, internal dampness, internal fire, blood stasis, yin deficiency,Qi deficiency, toxin, pathogenic water, and yang deficiency; The main excessive syndromes were Qi stagnation, internal dampness, internal fire, and blood stasis. The main deficiency syndromes were yin deficiency and Qi deficiency. Conclusion Excessive syndromes were the main syndromes of viral hepatitis.Dampness, heat, blood stasis, and toxin played key roles in the development of viral hepatitis. In addition to this,Qi stagnation, pathogenic water and phlegm were also important syndrome elements.

Objective:To investigate the effect of exposure to histological chorioamnionitis(HCA) on premature infants with respiratory distress syndrome(RDS)complicated with bronchopulmonary dysplasia(BPD).Methods:The clinical data of premature infants with gestational age<32 weeks and survival>14 days who were born in the department of obstetrics and admitted into NICU at Qingdao Women and Children′s Hospital from January 2018 to December 2020 were collected.According to placental pathology, they were divided into positive HCA + positive RDS group(observation group)and negative HCA + positive RDS group(control group). T-test, rank sum test and χ2 test were used to analyze the occurrence and clinical characteristics of BPD between the two groups. For premature infants with positive HCA who were diagnosed as BPD, Spearman rank correlation was used to analyze the correlation between HCA stage and BPD severity. Results:There were a total of 162 premature infants with RDS.The average gestational age at birth was 29.29(28.29, 30.43) weeks, and the average birth weight was 1.32(1.13, 1.55)kg; the incidence of BPD was 69.8%(113/162), and the mortality rate of BPD was 2.7%(3/113). There were 114 cases in the observation group and 48 cases in the control group. The incidence of BPD in the observation group was 76.3%(87/114), which was higher than that in the control group(54.2%, 26/48), and the difference was statistically significant( P<0.05). Further study of 87 premature infants with positive HCA who were diagnosed as BPD showed that, the correlation between the stage of HCA and the severity of BPD had not been confirmed( rs=0.062, P=0.571). Serum C-reactive protein before the mother used antibiotics and procalcitonin on the first day after birth in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant( P<0.05). Among 113 premature infants with RDS who were diagnosed as BPD, the time of antibiotic use, length of stay in intensive care unit and hospitalization cost in positive HCA group were higher than those in negative HCA group, and the differences were statistically significant( P<0.05). Conclusion:HCA exposure will increase the risk of BPD in premature infants with RDS.In addition, HCA also increases the intake period of antibiotics, length of stay and cost of intensive care unit in premature infants with BPD.
