1.Status of Hepatitis C in Hansen's Disease.
Korean Leprosy Bulletin 2009;42(1):55-66
According to the reports, the prevalence of anti-HCV is about 1%. In past, the results of the high prevalence of anti-HCV in the patients of Hansen's disease were reported. So we study about the status of Hepatitis C of persons affected Hansen's disease. 1. The prevalence of anti-HCV is 35.1%(persons affected Hansen's disease), 0%(health contact), 0.71%(control, general populations). 2. Positivity of RT PCR is 88% in HCV-Ab-positive persons affected Hansen's disease. In the genotype of hepatitis C, type 1 genotype is 68%, and type 2 is 32%. 3. Statistical signification between patients & non-patients in ALT and HCV-Ab-positivity is found P=0.02, P=0.00) and statistical signification according to result of Hepatitis C antibody in ALT, GTT, and AFP is found in persons affected Hansen's disease(P=0.015, P=0.036, P=0.017).

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1980;21(3):329-331
A 46 years old male patient had visited to our Ophthalmology department due to abrupt onset of decreased visual acuity in his left eye. He had taken an operation for correction of high myopic astigmatism on both eyes 23 years ago in Japan by Dr. Sato. His visual acuity was: (R)0.3(0.7 x Sph. + 0.75D. = Cyl. - 5.50D.A10 degrees) (L)0.15(0.2 x Sph. - 2.50D. = Cyl. - 2.25D. A180 degrees). On slit lamp examination. hoth cornea had 3mm. (length) radiated linear scars in a number about 50 resulted from myopic operation. In his left cornea, several small vesicles and mild corneal central opacity were observed. We have diagnosed this symptom as artificial corneal endothelial Dystrophy.

3.A radiographic study of mandibular condyle shape and position a comparision of trascranial radiograms and individulized corrected tomograms.
Journal of Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 1997;27(1):25-42
The purpose of this study was to observe mandibular condyle shape and position in an asymptomatic population. In o rder to carry out this study, 142 temporomandibular joints in 71 adults(35 males, 36 females), who were asymptomatic for temporomandibular joint disorders and had no history of prosthodontic or orthodontic treatments, were selected, and rad iographed using the Accurd-200 head holder(Denar Co., U.S.A.) for lateral individualized corrected tomograms. Mandibular condyles were classified morphologically and evaluated in positional relationships with articular fossae and articular eminences at centric occlusiohn and 1 inch mouth opening. The obtained results were as follows : 1. In the classification of mandibular condyle shape, the convex type was more prevalent in trascranial radiograms and tomograms taken at medial, central, and lateral locations. 2. In the mandibular condyle position at centric occlusion, the mandibular condyles were palced posterior to the center of articular fossae in trascranial radiograns and anterior to the center of articular fossae in tomograns taken at medi al, central, and lateral locations. 3. In the mandibular condyle position in right and left TMJs at centric occlusion, the mandibular condyles were placed bilateral asymmetric relationships to the articular fossae in trascranial radiograms and tomograms taken at medial, cent ral, and lateral location, 4. In the mandibular condyle position at 1 inch mouth opening, the mandibular condyles were placed anterior to the arti cular eminences in trascranial radiogramas and tomograms taken at central location and posterior to the articular eminen ces in tomograms taken at medial and lateral locations.

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2000;30(1):110-121
This study was designed to develop the life moking cessation program with multidisciplinary approach using the Bandura's theory of self-efficacy and confirm the effect of it on the self-efficacy and smoking amount in college students. For this purpose non-equivalent control group, pretest-posttest design was used. The participating subjects in this study were 46 male college freshmen, 23 in experimental and 23 in control group. The experimental group received the 8 sessions of lecture and small group discussions for 4 weeks and a telephone coaching program for a period of 8 weeks. The control group received 5 sessions of lecture without further treatments. The data was collected from March 15 to June 11, 1999, and analysed by SAS/PC program with X2 test, simple t, paired t test. The results were as follows. 1. The score of self-efficacy was significantly increased over time in the experimental group than those of the control group. 2. The amount of urine cotinine was decreased over time in the experimental group, number of cigarettes smoked a day were significantly decreased, and they were significantly less than those of the control group. In conclusion it was found that the Life Smoking Cessation Program with Multidisciplinary Approach was an effective nursing intervention for increasing self efficacy and reducing the amount of smoking in male college students. Therefore, future smoking cessation programs should always consider the concept of self-efficacy and ways to positively reinforce it.

Journal of Rhinology 2000;7(2):101-104
Concha bullosa is one of the most common anatomical variations detected in the paransal sinus and nasal cavity. In this study, the incidence of concha bullosa and the relationship between the size of concha bullosa and the degree of the paranasal sinus lesion is to be inquired. This study was based on 232 patients who visited our outpatient department with rhinological symptoms suspected with chronic sinusitis who went under OMU CT. Based on OMU CT reviews, the grade of concha bullosa was divided into four stages and the paransal sinus lesion was classified into 5 stages. The prevalence rate of concha bullosa was 36.2% with 14.6% bilateral and 21.6% unilateral. The accompanying incidence of concha bullosa in patients with no sinus disease was 20.2% and 26.8% in sinusitis patients, with no significant statistical difference between the two groups. Merely, a higher prevalence rate was seen in patients with paranasal sinus lesions localized in the OMU. However, for a more accurate result as of concha bullosa functioning as an etiological factor of sinusitis, a random population based study will be necessary. Also, it has been noticed that septal deviation, in all anatomical variations, most commonly occurs in patients with concha bullosa.

Korean Journal of Urology 1996;37(11):1295-1299
To evaluate the etiology and treatment of options in patients with hemospermia, we retrospectively reviewed 21 patients who had both transrectal ultrasound and MRI and have been followed for more than 6 months after initiation of treatment. Mean age was 40 years (range 20 - 50 years) with duration of infliction being 24 months (range 1 week to 16 years). Among the 14 patients with prostatic cyst, 9 patients underwent transurethral unroofing (TUUR) of cyst. All 9 patients were completely cured, but one patient developed postoperative epididymitis. Among the 6 patients with prostatitis, hemospermia was resolved in 4 patients after mean treatment of 12 weeks with antibiotics. In DES (Diethylstilbestrol) group, 50 % showed resolution of symptoms among 6 patients after 4 weeks of treatment, and two patients complained breast discomfort which were developed after medication. In conclusion, the antibiotic treatment is advisable in hemospermia patients with prostatitis. Prostatic cystic lesion is believed to be a factor in hemospermia, thus TUUR of cyst wall and removal of stone and hematoma in cyst can be a viable option.

7.The Prospectives on The Association between Disability Resulted from Hansen's Disease and Orthosis Prescribed to Patients with Hansen's Disease.
Korean Leprosy Bulletin 2008;41(2):37-54
BACKGROUND: Hansen's disease is chronic disease, often resulting in musculoskeletal complication such as chronic ulcer, deformity, disability. The aim of this article is to know the present status of prescription of orthosis and to assess the usefulness of orthosis. METHODS: Analysis was done on subjects who had were prescribed orthosis from December, 2007 to November, 2008 at the Clinic of Reserch Center. We have asked the patients questionnaire such as frequency of use of the prescribed orhtosis, the degree of pain reduction and comfortability with orthosis, the cause of disuse of orthosis ,the degree of preventing relapse of ulcer with orthosis, request about prescribed orthosis. RESULTS: The total number who were prescribed orthosis was 173. About 69.4% patients have used orthosis very frequently or nearly at all times. About 83.2% patients said that orthosis had done them good in pain reduction, preventing relapse of ulcer. The major reason of disuse of orthosis was inconvenience of management, not no-helfulness. The major request about orthosis were improvement of quality, imprvement of strength of orthosis, shortening of limitation term of prescription. CONCLUSINON: The prescription of orthosis to Hansen patients with musculoskeletal sequale improve quality of life and is available in preventing relapse of ulcer.

Journal of Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 1997;27(2):91-104
The purpose of this study was to aid in the prediction of tumor cell tolerance to radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy. For this study, cell surviving curves were obtained for human epidermoid carcinoma A-253 cell line using semiautomated MTT assay. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 Gy were irradiated at a dose rate of 210 cGy/min using 60Co Irradiator ALDORADO 8. After irradiation, A-253 cell lines(2x10(4) cells/ml) were exposed to bleomycin or cisplatin for 1 hour. The viable cells were determined for each radiation dose with/without 2 ug/ml of drug at the 3rd day. And they were compared to control values. The results were obtained as follows: 1. The surviving curve with gentle slope was obtained after irradiation of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 Gy on A-253 cell line. 2. The cytotoxicity of bleomycin or cisplatin at the concentration of 2 ug/ml was great on A-253 cell line. But, there was no significant difference between the cytotoxicity of bleomycin and that of cisplatin. 3. There were significant differences of surviving fractions after irradiation with 2 ug/ml of bleomycin compared with irradiation only on A-253 cell line. 4. There were significant differences of surviving fractions after irradiation with 2 ug/ml of cisplatin compared with irradiation only on A-253 cell line. 5. There were no significant differences of surviving fractions between the groups of irradiation with bleomycin and the groups of irradiation with cisplatin on A-253 cell line.

Journal of Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 1998;28(1):155-169
The purpose of this study was to prove the relationship between arthrographic and clinical features in temporomadibular joint disorders. In order to carry out this study, ninety-eight arthrographic examinations of temporomandibular joints were performed in eighty-two patients who had the temporomandibular joint disorders. As the arthrographic examination, the cases were classfied in three groups, disk displacement with reduction, disk displacement without reduction, within normal limit. After this, the cases were clinically exanmined, and the results were compared and analyzed in each other group. The obtained results were as follows ; 1. As the classification by arthrographic examination, three groups (disc displacement with reduction, disc displacement without reduction, within normal limit) were 41%, 54%, 5% of total cases in this study, respectively. 2. The third decade(65%) was most frequent in this study. The average age of each group (disc displacement with reduction, disc displacement without reduction, within normal limit) was 24, 28, 21, and disc displacement without reduction group was higher than any other group. 3. In the chief complaint, pain was the most frequent in all three groups. Joint sound was also frequent in disc displacement with reduction group, but in disc displacement without reduction group, limitation of mouth openimg was more frequent. 4. Of the various pain, the movement pain was most frequent(61%) in this study. In joint sound, click(63%) was the most frequent in disc displacement with reduction group, but sound history(42%) and no sound(31%) were more frequent in disc displacement without reduction group. 5. The average maximum opening of each group (disc displacement with reduction, disc displacement without reduction, within normal limit) was 44mm, 32.9mm, 44mm, and disc displacement without reduction group was less than any other group. 6. The masticatory disturbance of each group (disc displacement with reduction, disc displacement without reduction, within normal limit) was 53%, 79%, 40%, and the trauma history of each group was 50%, 40%, 60%.

Korean Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 2003;33(3):161-169
PURPOSE: To observe the histologic changes and clusterin expression in the acinar cells of the submandibular gland in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat following irradiation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Mature Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups: control, diabetic, and diabetic-irradiated groups. Diabetes mellitus was induced in the Sprague-Dawley rats by injecting streptozotocin, while the control rats were injected with citrate buffer only. After 5 days, rats in diabetic-irradiated group were irradiated with single absorbed dose of 10 Gy to the head and neck region. The rats were killed at 1, 3, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after irradiation. The specimen including the submandibular gland were sectioned and observed using histologic and immunohistochemical methods. RESULTS: Morphologic change of acinar cells was remarkable in the diabetic group, but was not observed in the diabetic-irradiated group. Necrotic tissues were observed in the diabetic-irradiated group. Coloring of toluidine blue stain was most increased at 14 days in the diabetic group, however there were no significant change throughout the period of the experiment in the diabetic-irradiated group. Expression of clusterin was most significant at 14 days in the diabetic group, but gradually decreased with time after 7 days in the diabetic-irradiated group. Degeneration of clusterin was observed in the diabetic-irradiated group. CONCLUSION: This experiment suggests that the acinar cells of submandibular gland in rats are physiologically apoptosed by the induction of diabetes, but that the apoptosis is inhibited and the acinar cells necrotized after irradiation.
