Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2000;30(1):110-121
This study was designed to develop the life moking cessation program with multidisciplinary approach using the Bandura's theory of self-efficacy and confirm the effect of it on the self-efficacy and smoking amount in college students. For this purpose non-equivalent control group, pretest-posttest design was used. The participating subjects in this study were 46 male college freshmen, 23 in experimental and 23 in control group. The experimental group received the 8 sessions of lecture and small group discussions for 4 weeks and a telephone coaching program for a period of 8 weeks. The control group received 5 sessions of lecture without further treatments. The data was collected from March 15 to June 11, 1999, and analysed by SAS/PC program with X2 test, simple t, paired t test. The results were as follows. 1. The score of self-efficacy was significantly increased over time in the experimental group than those of the control group. 2. The amount of urine cotinine was decreased over time in the experimental group, number of cigarettes smoked a day were significantly decreased, and they were significantly less than those of the control group. In conclusion it was found that the Life Smoking Cessation Program with Multidisciplinary Approach was an effective nursing intervention for increasing self efficacy and reducing the amount of smoking in male college students. Therefore, future smoking cessation programs should always consider the concept of self-efficacy and ways to positively reinforce it.

Journal of the Korean Pediatric Society 2000;43(3):417-422
The Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) and Angelman syndrome (AS) are clinically distinct syndromes with a shared cytogenetic deletion of chromosome 15q11q13 in most patients. Currently the diagnosis of PWS/AS is clinically suspected and can be confirmed by genetic laboratory tests. However, their diagnosis remains difficult in neonates and early infants because many features of the syndromes change with age and the typical features do not present in this early period. Recently, we experienced 5 cases of PWS/AS, confirmed by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) study in neonates and infants admitted to neonatal intensive care unit due to hypotonia and feeding problems. We believe that these syndromes are far more common than previously thought, and report thes 5 cases to emphasize the importance of early diagnosis in order to provide appropriate counselling for the parents. We recommend molecular genetic studies of PWS/ AS in floppy infants who have feeding problems during the neonate stage and infancy.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Frontal recess anatomy can be very complex, with accessory cells extending to the frontal sinus and possibly contributing to the obstruction of the frontal sinus. However, there is still controversy on the effect of the frontal recess cells. We designed this study to assess the effect of frontal recess cells on frontal sinusitis. SUBJECTS AND METHOD: We retrospectively reviewed chart and collected data of those who visited the outpatient clinic between January and June, 2011. Parnasal sinus CT was taken with Brillance 64-slice computed tomography scanners. The image was reviewed by two or more otolaryngologists to identify the frontal recess cells. The nasofrontal isthmus diameter and the area of nasofrontal isthmus was reconstructed and measured with workstation. Then, we compared the radiological results of frontal recess cells with the frequency of frontal sinusitis. RESULTS: The presence of anterior group of frontal recess cells showed no influence on the frontal recess anatomy. The presence of frontal bullar cell was significantly associated with the development of frontal sinusitis by simple (p=0.001) and multiple (p=0.038) logistic regression models. It was shown that the narrower the area of frontal isthmus the more developed were the frontal sinusitis, showing statistically significance in the simple (p=0.013) and multiple (p=0.017) logistic regression models. CONCLUSION: Our results also showed that similar results compared to previous Asianreport. The narrowness of nasofrontal isthmus could be the cause of frontal sinusitis. The frontal bullar cell could be the cause of frontal sinusitis encroaching on the frontal recess and affect the nasofrontal pathway.

Journal of Korean Orthopaedic Research Society 2002;5(1):61-68
PURPOSE: We had examined the effect of high dose MTX loaded acrylic cement in the treatment of type II collagen induced arthritis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: we used inbreed rat(16weeks - 20weeks) and divided into control group and experimental groups. inbreed rat was induced arthritis by prepared collagen through injection at the tail base. The control group was injected with collagen only. but the experimental groups were inserted intraperitoneally MTX-loaded acryl cement: 25mg, 20mg, 15mg, and 10mg MTX in acrylic cement (0.5gm) respectively. The histopathologic results were investigated to determine the effect of MTX on the 3rd, 7th, 14th, 28th, 42th, and 56th day after inserting high dose MTX loaded acrylic cement which was inserted intraperitoneally 2weeks later of collagenase injection RESULTS: The arthritis index of the MTX-loaded groups had reduced than arthritis index of the control group according to the dosage and In histopathological test, the experimental group injected with 15mg, 20mg, and 25mg of MTX had distinctive effects, compared to the control group, as dosage chronologically. CONCLUSION: The treatment of high-dose MTX loaded acrylic cement might be effective on rheumatoid arthritis managment.

A 37-year-old female presented with a conjunctival mass discovered 3 years prior. An excisional biopsy revealed a patternless proliferation of round and spindle-shaped cells with an eosinophilic fibrillary cytoplasm and vesicular nuclei with occasional inclusions. Psammoma bodies were arranged around the dilated irregularly-shaped vessels. Differential diagnoses included conjunctival solitary fibrous tumor (SFT), nevus, glomangioma, ectopic meningioma, and mesectodermal leiomyoma. The tumor cells were immunoreactive for CD34, CD99, bcl-2 and vimentin, and were negative for smooth muscle actin, desmin, glial fibrillary acidic protein, S-100 protein, epithelial membrane antigen, and human melanoma black-45. Ultrastructurally, the tumor cells had rough endoplasmic reticulum, free ribosomes, and scattered mitochondria without basal lamina or cellular junctions, which are features of fibroblasts. A diagnosis of SFT was rendered based on the light microscopic, immunohistochemical, and electron microscopic findings. We report here on the second case of a SFT arising in the conjunctiva, which clinically and histologically mimics conjunctival nevus, glomangioma, ectopic meningioma, and a hybrid neurogenic-myogenic tumor such as mesectodermal leiomyoma.

Journal of the Korean Academy of Family Medicine 2006;27(4):270-277
BACKGROUND: Stomach cancer is the most common cancer in Korea. Lifelong health management program recommends that males over 40 years and women over 50 years should undergo stomach cancer screening by endoscopy or upper gastrointestinal series every two years. The importance of re-screening of stomach cancer in a high risk group is emphasized. METHODS: A telephone questionnaire was done one year after to 123 patients over 40 years old considered as a high risk group with either chronic atropic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, gastric ulcer, gastric adenoma among 804 subjects who had undergone anendoscopic examination from February 2002 to June 2003 at a university hospital health promotion center. RESULTS: The number of patients who responded were 109. The average recognition rate of high risk group was 53.2%. The rate of recognition of high risk group was lower in good subjective health estimation group and in less educated group, in old age group, and in chronic atrophic gastritis and intestinal metaplasia group. The rate of not receiving re-screening after 1 year was 48 (44.0%). Re-screening rate in patients with intestinal metaplasia (35.3%) and chronic atropic gastritis (39.1%) compared to gastric ulcer (77.8%) and gastric polyp (90.0%), in those not recognizing themselves as high risk group, in low education group, in old age, was lower. CONCLUSION: In patients with chronic atropic gastritis and intestinal metaplasia, in those not recognizing themselves as high risk group, in old age and in good subjective health state. We need to educate the importance for regular screening of stomach cancer more intensively.

Korean Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 2003;33(4):235-238
Squamous cell carcinoma arising in an odontogenic cyst is uncommon. The diagnosis of carcinoma arising in a cyst requires that there must be an area of microscopic transition from the benign epithelial cyst lining to the invasive squamous cell carcinoma. We report a histopathologically proven case of squamous cell carcinoma arising in a residual mandibular cyst in a 54-year-old woman.
