In this study, the implementation methods for the several functions are explored on RayStation 4.0 Platform. Those functions are passing the information such as ROI names to a plan prescription Word file. passing the file to RayStation for plan evaluation; passing the evaluation result to form an evaluated report file. The result shows the RayStation scripts can exchange data with Word, as well as control the running of Word and the content of a Word file. Consequently, it's feasible for scripts to inactive with third party softwares upgrade the performance of RayStation itself.

In order to adapt to different target shapes and protect the surrounding normal tissues, the design of two-dimensional electron beam radiotherapy planning requires additional lead blocks. But the Pinnacle treatment planning system can not directly shape the lead block conformity to the size of the beam field given by the doctor. Every time, physicists need to manually drag the lead block to form the required beam field. When meeting a two-dimensional electron beam treatment planning with the same field parameters as before, physicists need to rearrange the field for dose calculation, which greatly reduces the design efficiency of the two-dimensional electron beam treatment planning. In this study, we independently developed a two-dimensional electron beam radiotherapy planning system based on Qt Creator. The system can quickly design a two-dimensional electron beam radiotherapy plan, which reduces the repeated work of physicists.

OBJECTIVEDiscussing the basic application of scripting in RayStation TPS system.

METHODSOn the RayStation 3.0 Platform, the programming methods and the points should be considered during basic scripting application were explored with the help of utility scripts. The typical planning problems in the field of beam arrangement and plan outputting were used as examples by ironprthon language.

RESULTSThe necessary properties and the functions of patient object for script writing can be extracted from RayStation system. With the help of NET controls, planning functions such as the interactive parameter input, treatment planning control and the extract of the plan have been realized by scripts.

CONCLUSIONWith the help of demo scripts, scripts can be developed in RayStation, as well as the system performance can be upgraded.

OBJECTIVEThe automatic generation of planning targets and auxiliary contours have achieved in Eclipse TPS 11.0.

METHODSThe scripting language autohotkey was used to develop a software for automatically generated contours in Eclipse TPS. This software is named Contour Auto Margin (CAM), which is composed of operational functions of contours, script generated visualization and script file operations. RESULTS Ten cases in different cancers have separately selected, in Eclipse TPS 11.0 scripts generated by the software could not only automatically generate contours but also do contour post-processing. For different cancers, there was no difference between automatically generated contours and manually created contours.

CONCLUSIONThe CAM is a user-friendly and powerful software, and can automatically generated contours fast in Eclipse TPS 11.0. With the help of CAM, it greatly save plan preparation time and improve working efficiency of radiation therapy physicists.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the feasibility of using the bidirectional local distance based medical similarity index (MSI) to evaluate automatic segmentation on medical images. METHODS: Taking the intermediate risk clinical target volume for nasopharyngeal carcinoma manually segmented by an experience radiation oncologist as region of interest, using Atlas-based and deep-learning-based methods to obtain automatic segmentation respectively, and calculated multiple MSI and Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) between manual segmentation and automatic segmentation. Then the difference between MSI and DSC was comparatively analyzed. RESULTS: DSC values for Atlas-based and deep-learning-based automatic segmentation were 0.73 and 0.84 respectively. MSI values for them varied between 0.29~0.78 and 0.44~0.91 under different inside-outside-level. CONCLUSIONS It is feasible to use MSI to evaluate the results of automatic segmentation. By setting the penalty coefficient, it can reflect phenomena such as under-delineation and over-delineation, and improve the sensitivity of medical image contour similarity evaluation.

The dose verification methods in advanced radiotherapy are elaborated in this paper. The usage and application results for various dosimeters in dose verification are explained. As a theoretical method, Monte Carlo simulation, which has been developed greatly in recent years based on the technical progress in computer science, can be also used in dose verification with unique advantages. On the other hand, the principle of dose verification on proton and heavy-ion therapy is discussed briefly. Finally, the evaluation criteria for verification and the future development for dose verification are presented.

This paper reviewed the dose calculation method for treatment planning system of multi-source stereotactic radiotherapy system with Gamma beam, and presented a fast method based on cone coordinate system and multi-core parallelization. The experiments show that the new method not only ensures the accuracy of dose calculation, but also greatly improves the speed, which can reach as 20 times as that of traditional method.

OBJECTIVES: To study the clinical application effect of "kindergarten effect" in radiotherapy for children with tumor based on the psychology of preschool children aged 3-5 years. METHODS: A total of 30 children, aged 3-5 years, who were admitted to the Department of Radiotherapy, Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital, from January 2020 to August 2021 were enrolled in this prospective study. The children were randomly divided into a control group and a test group, with 15 children in each group. The children in the test group were treated in "kindergarten mode", i.e., all children were treated together at a specified time and left together after all children completed treatment. Those in the control group were treated alternately with adult patients according to the treatment time based on the type of radiotherapy fixation device. The treatment compliance was evaluated for both groups, and the two groups were compared in terms of the setup errors in the superior-inferior (SI), left-right (LR), and anterior-posterior (AP) directions. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the test group showed a significantly shorter time for finishing the treatment (P<0.05) and a significantly lower proportion of children with treatment interruption (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the test group showed smaller mean errors in the SI, LR and AP directions after image-guided radiotherapy, with significant differences in the mean errors in the SI and LR directions (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS With the application of the "kindergarten effect", most children can actively cooperate in radiotherapy, and it can also improve the accuracy and repeatability of positioning and help to achieve the desired treatment outcome.

In recent years, proton therapy technology has developed rapidly, and the number of patients treated with proton therapy has gradually increased. However, the application of proton therapy technology was far from practical needs. Because of the shortage of resources and the high cost, proton therapy systems are not accessible and affordable for most patients. In order to change this situation, it is necessary to develop a new truly practical proton therapy system based on clinical needs. Conceptual design of a practical proton therapy system was proposed. Compared with the existing system, one feature of the newly designed system is to reduce the maximum energy of the proton beam to 175~200 MeV; another feature is the configuration of deluxe and economical treatment rooms, the deluxe room is equipped with a rotating gantry and a six-dimensional treatment bed, and the economical room is equipped with a horizontal fixed beam and a patient vertical rotating setup device. This design can not only reduce the cost of proton therapy system and equipment room construction, but also facilitate the hospital to choose the appropriate configuration, which will ultimately benefit more patients.
