Objective To explore the clinical value of wave intensity(WI) in assessing left ventricular systolic function of patients with impaired glucose regulation. Methods 72 people were involved in this study, according to their plasma glucose levels, subjects were categorized as normal plasma glucose group (group A),newly categorized impaired fasting glucose group (group B) and pre-diabetes group (group C).Carotid WI examination was performed and analyzed. The parameters included magnitude of the peak during early systole (W1),amplitude of the peak during late systole (W2),interval between R wave of electrocardiogram and W1 (R-W1),interval between W1 and W2 (W1-W2),stiffness parameter (β),pressure strain elasticity modulus(Ep) and arterial compliance(AC).Echocardiographic indices including left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF),left ventricular fraction shortening (LVFS) and the peak velocity of mitral annulus at systolic phase(Sm) were determined in each subject. Results Compared to group A,W1,W2,β,Ep increased significantly while AC decreased in group C(P <0.05).However,this difference did not persist in group B.Compared to group A,LVEF and LVFS were not observed significantly different in group B and group C.Conclusions WI is a hemodynamic method which not only can evaluate left ventricular systolic function of impaired glucose regulation subjects but also be more sensitive than routine echocardiography.

Objective To assess the carotid elasticity using wave intensity(WI) in subjects with different plasma glucose level. Methods 107 subjects were enrolled in this study, according to their plasma glucose levels, subjects were categorized as normal plasma glucose group (group A),normal plasma glucose in higher level group (group B) and pre-diabetes group (group C).Carotid WI examination was performed and analyzed. The parameters included magnitude of the peak during late systole (W2),negative area during the mid-ejection (NA),and stiffness parameter (β),pressure strain elasticity modulus (Ep),arterial compliance(AC),augmentation index(AI),one point pulse wave velocity(PWVβ).Results Compared to group A,W2,β,Ep,PWVβ increased significantly while AC decreased in group C(P <0.05),but there was no obvious difference of NA between two groups.Furthermore, this statistically difference was not found in group B(P >0.05).Conclusions Carotid elasticity have been altered in pre-diabetes group which can be evaluated by WI,but no marked change is observed in normal plasma glucose of higher level group.

Objective To investigate effects of different processing methods on the contents of oleanolic acid and ursolic acid in chaenomeles medicinal materials. Methods The contents of oleanolic acid and ursolic acid in samples processed by different processing methods in producing area were determined by HPLC with Agilent HC-C18 (2) chromatographic column (4.6 mm×250 mm, 5 μm), mobile phase of methanol-water-acetic acid-triethylamine (89∶11∶0.1∶0.05), detection wavelength of 210 nm, column temperature at 25 ℃, the flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. Results The total contents of oleanolic acid and ursolic acid in the samples prepared through 4 different processing methods were 0.86%, 0.93%, 1.29%, and 1.47%, respectively, showing that different processing methods in producing area had a significant effect on contents of oleanolic acid and ursolic acid in chaenomeles medicinal materials. Conclusion This study provides a basis for processing methods of chaenomeles medicinal materials in producing area.

Objective To investigate the quality of life of retired cadres of People's Liberation Army, and analyze their health status and unhealthy life style on health. Methods From Jun.2008 to Dec.2008,4502 retired cadres aged 60 and above residing in Shanghai,Nanjing,Qingdao and Hangzhou were involved in present study.A transverse section on-the-spot survey was performed by questionnaire, and the quality of life was then analyzed based on the data gained. Results A total of 4502 valid questionnaires were received, the recruitment rate was 90.03%.Fifty questionnaires were randomly selected and checked, the coincidence was 89%.Several chronic diseases were found in the subjects investigated, and the following diseases occupied the top 10 positions:coronary artery disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, prostate hyperplasia, chronic gastritis, stroke, chronic bronchitis, tumor, hyperlipoidemia and cataract. The detection rates of all these diseases, with an exception of chronic gastritis, were correlated with age in certain degree.Smoking, lack of physical exercises and lack of fruits or vegetables intake were the main unhealthy life habits. Conclusion The basic health status of retired military cadres aged 60 and above has been obtained by the present investigation, and ten main chronic diseases and main unhealthy life habits in these retired cadres have been found, which may provide significant data for further study to work out a health care scheme for retired cadres.

Objective To analyze the single resistance and multiple resistance situation of of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) in Qingd‐ao area to commonly used antibacterial drugs and to investigate the mutation characteristics of drug‐related resistant genes .Methods Hp was isolated from the mucosal samples of gastric antrum .The agar diffusion test was used to determine the susceptibility of Hp to clarithromycin ,levofloxacin and metronidazole .The 23s rRNA of clarithromycin resistance gene ,gyrA of levofloxacin resistance gene and rdxA of metronidazole resistance gene were amplified by using PCR ,after the PCR products sequencing ,the sequence com‐parative analysis was performed by the ClustalW2 software .Results The drug susceptibility test results found that the single re‐sistance rates of 134 strains of clinically isolated Hp to clarithromycin ,levofloxacin and metronidazole were 40 .3% ,34 .3% and 43 .3% ,respectively .Only 17 .9% of Hp strains were susceptible to these 3 kinds of antibacterial drug ;the multi‐drug resistance rate was 29 .9% ,triple drug resistance rate was 9 .0% ;furthermore ,the double resistance rate of levofloxacin plus metronidazole was significantly lower than that of clarithromycin plus levofloxacin ,the difference was statistically significant(3 .0% vs .10 .4% ,χ2 = 5 .96 ,P=0 .015) .The drug resistance genes sequence analyses showed that the commonest mutation locus was A2143G (77 . 8% ) ,the commonest mode of gyrA gene mutation was N87K(78 .3% ) ,and which of rdxA gene was nucleotide insertion into loci 20/32 ,generating the frameshift mutation with the mutation rate of 44 .8% .Conclusion The multi‐drug resistance rate of Hp is high in Qingdao area .The effective antibacterial drugs should be selected according to the drug susceptibility test results .Levofloxa‐cin could serve as the first line drug for the eradication therapy scheme in this area .

OBJECTIVE: To optimize water extraction technology of Feng-Moutan Cortex. METHODS: L9 (34) orthogonal design was used to optimize soaking time, solid-liquid ratio, extraction time and extraction times in water extraction technology of Feng-Moutan Cortex using comprehensive scores for the peak area percentage and extract yield of 8 ingredients in Feng-Moutan Cortex as gallic acid, paeoniflorin, catechin, paeoniflorin, benzoic acid, benzoyloxypaeoniflorin, benzoylpaeoniflorin and paeonol after normalization as indexes. Verification test was conducted. RESULTS: The optimal water extraction technology was that 20-fold water, soaking for 1 h, extracting twice, 2 h each time. Results of verification test showed that comprehensive scores of 3 times of tests were 65. 98, 68. 85 and 69. 25, respectively. RSDs of each index were lower than 5% (n=3). CONCLUSIONS: Established comprehensive scoring method can reflect the relative contents of effective components in Feng-Moutan Cortex comprehen- sively, so that optimized extraction technology is reasonable and feasible.
