Objective To study cutaneous ultrastructural changes and FERMT1 gene mutations in a patient with Kindler syndrome. Methods Clinical data were collected, and tissue samples obtained from the lesions of poikiloderma were observed by using transmission electron microscopy. Fifteen coding exons and their flanking sequences of the FERMT1 gene were amplified by PCR and DNA sequencing was followed. Results Reduplication of lamina densa was seen between the dermal-epidermal junctions of the lesional skin. The patient was found to be homozygous for a novel splice-site mutation (IVS9 + 1G > A) in FERMT1 gene, and his parents were heterozygous for it. The mutation was undetected in fifty normal control individuals. Conclusions Transmission electron microscopy may serve as an ancillary examination for the diagnosis of Kindler syndrome. The IVS9+1G>A mutation of FERMT1 gene may contribute to the clinical phenotype of Kindler syndrome in this patient.

Objective To summarize the epidemiological feature of plague cases oceuwed in China. Methods The epidemiological and clinical data from 1981 to 2006 year in China were analyzed with descriptive study method.Result Nine hundred and seveneteen human plague cases were diagnosed in 9 provinces(regions) from 1981 to 2006 years,105 cases died, the mortality rate being 11.45%,and they distributed in 69 counties (cities or banners). In Qinghai Province 108 cases were diagnosed, the mortality rate was 46.30%(50/108),the cases distributed in 17 counties(cities);137 cans in Guizhou, distributing in 2 counties(cities);517 cases in Yunnan, distributing in 26 counties(cities).Plague cases peaked separately in 1983,1990,1996 and 2000 years, they were 25,75,98 and 254 separately. The principal spreading ways were breathing flying particles, touching, skinning and eating marmot in Qinghai;750 cases were of bubonic plague, among whom 4 cases in Tibet died, the fatality rate was 0.53(4/750);121 cases were of pneumonic prague, among whom 65 cases died, was accounting for 53.72%(65/121);31 cases were of septieaemic plague, and 30 cases died(one cases was cured in Inner Mongolia),accounting for 96.77%(30/31).Others were brain plague, intestinal plague, tonsil plague and plague cellulites, which were cured. Conclusion From 1990,human plague epidemical scope and intensity is enlarging continuously compared with 1980-1990 and there is a trend of going up gradually in China.

OBJECTIVETo observe the relation between Pi deficiency syndrome (PDS) and the configuration and functions of extensor digitorum longus (EDL)and soleus (SOL).
METHODSTotally 36 ICR mice were randomly divided into 3 groups according to weight matching principle, the control group, the exhausted group, and the rhubarb group, 12 in each group. Two PDS models were established by either purgation with rhubarb diarrhea (as Group A) or exhausted swimming plus sleep deprivation (as Group B).The cross sectional area (CSA) of type I and II fibers of extensor digitorum longus (EDL) and soleus (SOL), relative proportions of type I and II fibers were measured by m-ATPase histochemical method. The isotonic contraction and the maximum tetanus contraction of EDL and SOL were detected by PowerLab system.
RESULTSCompared with the control group, the body weight, body temperature, and the general health condition of PDS model rats obviously decreased; the spleen index and the thymus index were also lower; the maximal isotonic contraction and the maximum tetanus contraction obviously decreased; the cross section areas of EDL and SOL were reduced with loosely arranged cells. In EDL, the proportion of type I fibers was added and the proportion of type II fibers was lowered. In SOL, there was no change in the proportion of type I and type II fibers.
CONCLUSIONSEDL and SOL were obviously atrophied in the two PDS model mice. The type I fibers of SOL was more significantly atrophied in Group B.

Objectives To investigate the prevalence of animal plague in Horqin Right Front County and provide scientific bases for prevention and treatment of the disease. Methods Plague surveillance was carried out according to the requirements of National Plague Monitoring Programme at 3 monitoring points in Horqin Right Front County in 2012.Squirrel density, the number of small rats, rat fleas, pathogenic and serological surveillance of Yersinia pestis were included in the study. Results A total of 356 dauricus were captured, the average density was 0.88 rats/hm2; female and male ratio was 1 ∶ 1.31 and the female embryo rate was 96.46%.The captured 13 small nocturnal mice belonged to 2 species, which included 10 cricetulus barabensis and 3 cricetulus longicaudatus, and the capture rate of small nocturnal mouse was 4.33% (13/300).A total of 98 rat fleas were collected from 25 rats; rat flea carrying rate was 100%(25/25) and flea index was 3.92.Eighty rat burrows were detected, and flea index was 0.188.Pathogen test results were negative.Indirect hemagglutination test was used to examine 356 rat sera and 1 serum was positive. Conclusions Detection of positive rat sera has proved the existence of plague epidemic in Horqin Right Front County. Therefore, the work on plague prevention and control has a long way to go.

Objective To investigate the expression and significance of tumor necorisis factor related apoptosis induled ligand receptor(TRAILR) in human craniopharyngioma. Methods The expression of TRAILR was determined by immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization in 24 samples of craniopharyngioma and 16 samples of normal brain tissue. Results With low decoy receptor(DcR) expression in partial craniopharyngioma cells and low death receptor(DR) expression in partial normal brain cells,DR was expressed highly in all craniopharyngioma samples while DcR in most normal brain tissue. High DR expression and low DcR expression in craniopharyngioma tissue differed from low DR expression and high DcR expression in normal brain tissue(P

To investigate the inhibiting effect of arsenic trioxide (As(2)O(3)) on the telomerase activity of leukemia cell lines NB4 and Jurkat cells, MTT assay, electrophoresis of genomic DNA, protein/DNA dual parameter flow cytometry as well as a semi-quantitative telomeric repeat amplification protocol (TRAP) assay and RT-PCR were used to examine the effect of As(2)O(3) on cell proliferation, telomerase activity and expression of cell cycle regulatory proteins. The results showed that cell proliferation and telomerase activity were significantly inhibited and apoptosis was induced in these cells after exposure to As(2)O(3). Furthermore, the expression of some cell cycle and apoptosis related proteins, such as Bcl-2, Rb, P16, caspase-3, cyclin A and cyclin E, was altered in As(2)O(3) treated NB4 cells. Cell cycle was arrested at G(1) and G(2)/M phases in both cells. It is concluded that the change of cell cycle regulatory proteins plays an important role in decline of the telomerase activity during the proliferation inhibition and apoptosis of NB4 and Jurkat cells induced by As(2)O(3).
