Objective To summarize the clincal effect of open reduction and internal fixation with locking-proximal-humerus-plate(LPHP)to treat proximal humeral fractures.Methods A total of 19 eases with proximal humeral fractures were treated with LPHP from August 2003 to February 2006 in this study.Their mean age was 58.6 years old.According to Neer classification,two cases were with two- part fractures,nine with three-part fractures and eight with four-part fractures including seven cases with osteoporosis.Redaction and fixation was done via deltopeetoral-groove approach.Bone graft was applied for five eases.Results The follow-up period was 3 to 32 months(mean 17 months).All cases were healed and the union period of 3-5 months.According to the Near shoulder score,the results showed that ten cases were excellent,6 cases good,with excellent rate of 84%.Conclusion The LPHP method is suitable for osteoporosis and comminuted proximal humeral fractures and enhances the treatment effect.

Ergosta-4,6,8(14),22-tetraen-3-one (ergone) is one of main components in many medicinal fungi. Ergone has been reported to possess the activities of diuresis, cytotoxicity, antitumor, immunosuppression, as well as treatment of chronic kidney disease. According to reported literatures, an overview of spectroscopy characteristics, content determination, pharmacological activity and pharmacokinetics, etc. for ergone is presented in this review. Furthermore, the present review can provide a certain reference value for the further study and development of ergone.

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture (EA) plus Tanbo-plucking the trigger points for scapulohumeral periarthritis (SP). Methods:A total of 80 patients with SP were randomized into an observation group and an EA group by the random number table, with 40 cases in each group. The EA group was treated with EA therapy, and the observation group was treated with EA therapy plus Tanbo-plucking the trigger points. After treatment, the visual analog scale (VAS) and Melle scores of the two groups were compared to evaluate the improvement of shoulder pain and functional activity, and meanwhile the clinical efficacy was observed. Results: After treatment, the total effective rate of the observation group was 95.0％ and the cure and markedly effective rate was 72.5％. The total effective rate of the EA group was 87.5％ and the cure and markedly effective rate was 42.5％. There was no significant difference in the total effective rate between the two groups (P>0.05). The cure and markedly effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the EA group, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the intra-group differences in VAS and Melle scores of both groups were statistically significant (bothP<0.001). The inter-group differences in the changes of the VAS and Melle scores after treatment were statistically significant (bothP<0.001). Conclusion: EA plus Tanbo-plucking the trigger points has a better curative effect than EA therapy alone in the treatment of SP.

To understand Lophatherum gracile plant community's structural characteristics, a survey of community structure and species diversity was conducted through quadrat sampling in Yongchuan district of Chongqing. The results showed that there were 386 species vascular plants, belonging to 117 families and 229 genera. Based on habitat, community structure and species composition, L. gracile were found in three community types: Pinus massoniana community, banboo community, shurb community. Vertical structure was composed of three layers, including tree layer, shrub layer and herb layer. Species in shrub layer was the richness. P. massoniana is the only dominant species of the community, it can not regenerate naturally, the shrub layer has a greater effect on the community of L. gracile in the future. In addition, the banboo community and shurb community is not stable because of human's activity. Therefore, the community characters of L. gracile should be taken care of conservation when the resources are utilized.

BACKGROUND: The effect of pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP) during traumatic brain injury (TBI) and whether it can modulate secondary injury has not been reported previously. The present study evaluated the potential protective effects of ventricular infusion of PACAP in a rat model of TBI. METHODS: Male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into 3 treatment groups (n=6, each): sham-operated, vehicle (normal saline)+TBI, and PACAP+TBI. Normal saline or PACAP (1g/5L) was administered intracerebroventricularly 20 minutes before TBI. Right parietal cortical contusion was produced via a weight-dropping method. Brains were extracted 24 hours after trauma. Histological changes in brains were examined by HE staining. The numbers of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in blood and the spleen were detected via flow cytometry. RESULTS: In injured brain regions, edema, hemorrhage, inflammatory cell infiltration, and swollen and degenerated neurons were observed under a light microscope, and the neurons were disorderly arrayed in the hippocampi. Compared to the sham group, average CD4+ CD8– lymphocyte counts in blood and the spleen were significantly decreased in rats that received TBI+vehicle, and CD4– CD8+ were increased. In rats administered PACAP prior to TBI, damage was attenuated as evidenced by significantly increased CD4+, and decreased CD8+, T lymphocytes in blood and the spleen. CONCLUSION: Pretreatment with PACAP may protect against TBI by influencing periphery T cellular immune function.

OBJECTIVETo compare the peripheral dendritic cell subpopulation changes in patients with or without coronary artery disease.

METHODSA total of 60 patients with angiographic documented coronary artery disease (CAD) were recruited in this study, including 20 cases with acute myocardial infarction (AMI group), 20 cases with unstable angina(UA group) and 20 patients with stable angina (SA group). Eleven patients with chest pain and without coronary stenosis served as chest pain control (CPS group). Ten cases without heart diseases served as normal control (Normal control group). Numbers of peripheral myeloid dendritic cell (mDC) and plasmacytoid dendritic cell (pDC) precursors were determined by FACS.

RESULTThe proportions of mDC precursors were significantly lower in UA group and AMI group (4.7% +/- 2.6%, 5.0% +/- 2.7%) than that in SA, CPS and control groups (11.0% +/- 6.4%, 12.0% +/- 3.9%, 12.3% +/- 3.3%, respectively, all P < 0.001). pDC numbers were similar among groups.

CONCLUSIONReduced circulating mDC subsets in patients with unstable angina and AMI might suggest enhanced mDC recruitment to vulnerable plaques in these patients.

OBJECTIVETo measure the quantities and apoptosis-related protein levels of B lymphocyte in the patients with immunorelated pancytopenia (IRP) and explore the action of B lymphocyte in the pathogenic mechanism of IRP.

METHODSQuantities of whole B lymphocytes and CD5+ B lymphocytes as well as the expressions of Fas and Bcl-2 in B lymphocytes in 35 patients with untreated IRP, 15 IRP patients in complete remission (CR), and 10 normal controls were assayed by flow cytometry.

RESULTSThe percentages of B lymphocyte and CD5+ B lymphocyte were significantly higher in untreated IRP patients than in CR IRP patients and normal controls (P < 0.05), and there was no significant difference between the latter two groups (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference of Fas expression in B lymphocyte among three groups (P > 0.05). The expression of Bcl-2 in B lymphocyte was significantly higher in untreated patients than in CR patients or normal controls (P < 0.01), and significantly higher in CR patients than in normal controls (P < 0.01). The apoptosis-related index was significantly lower in untreated patients than in CR patients or normal controls (P < 0.05), and significantly lower in CR patients than in normal controls (P < 0.05). The percentage of B lymphocyte was positively correlated with post-treated response time (r = 0.53, P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONThe production of auto-antibodies in IRP patients probably has some relationship with the abnormal quantities of B lymphocyte and its subpopulations as well as with the inhibition of B lymphocyte apoptosis.

OBJECTIVETo explore transient expression of the eukaryotic expression plasmid carrying human platelet-derived growth factor-B (hPDGF-B) in gingival fibroblasts of Beagle dog.

METHODSPlasmid carrying hPDGF-B (EX-A0380-M03) was amplified and identified, and then transfected into gingival fibroblasts of Beagle dog. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), immunocytochemistry, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and Western bolt were choose to detect the expression of hPDGF-B.

RESULTSTarget gene carried by EX-A0380-M03 was hPDGF-B. Green fluorescence protein (GFP) expressed by transfected gingival fibroblasts was observed under inverted phase contrast fluorescence microscope (IPCFM) (after 24 hours) and the transfection efficiency was 18%-38% (after 48 hours). Serials other methods (RT-PCR, immunocytochemistry, and ELISA) mentioned above also convinced that cells expressed hPDGF-B, and the protein that was a kind of fusion protein composed of PDGF-BB and GFP was identified by Western blot.

CONCLUSIONEukaryotic expression plasmid carrying hPDGF-B was transfected into gingival fibroblasts successfully, and a kind of fusion protein was expressed.
