Objective:To explore the correlation between fluoride intake and serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in pregnant women of different gestational periods in endemic fluorosis area. Methods:Pregnant women in Rencheng District, Jinxiang County, Jiaxiang County of Jining City and Yuncheng County of Heze City were selected in April 2020. According to the gestational weeks, pregnant women were divided into early pregnancy group (0 - 12 weeks), middle pregnancy group (13 - 27 weeks) and late pregnancy group (> 27 weeks). The levels of urinary fluoride, ALP, osteocalcin (BGP), C-terminal peptide of β-Ⅰ collagen (β-CTX) and N-terminal propeptide of type Ⅰ collagen (PINP) of pregnant women in each group were measured, and the correlation between urinary fluoride and ALP, BGP, β-CTX, and PINP in pregnant women of different gestational periods was analyzed. Results:A total of 372 pregnant women were selected, including 97 cases in early pregnancy group, 169 cases in middle pregnancy group and 106 cases in late pregnancy group. There was no significant difference in urinary fluoride level between the three groups [(1.20 ± 0.25), (1.23 ± 0.19), (1.24 ± 0.30) mg/L, P > 0.05]. There was significant difference in serum ALP among the three groups ( P < 0.05), among them, the ALP level in early pregnancy was significantly lower than those of middle pregnancy group and late pregnancy group ( P < 0.05), and the ALP level in middle pregnancy was significantly lower than that of late pregnancy group ( P < 0.05). There was no significant differences in serum β-CTX among the three groups ( P > 0.05). There were significant differences in serum BGP and PINP levels among the three groups ( P < 0.05). The serum BGP and PINP levels in late pregnancy group were significantly higher than those of early pregnancy group and middle pregnancy group ( P < 0.05), and there were no significant differences in serum BGP and PINP levels between early pregnancy group and middle pregnancy group ( P < 0.05). There was a significant positive correlation between urinary fluoride and ALP in early pregnancy group ( r = 0.364, P < 0.05), but no significant correlation between urinary fluoride and BGP, β-CTX and PINP ( r = 0.164, 0.117, 0.136, P > 0.05). There was a significant positive correlation between urinary fluoride level and ALP in middle pregnancy group ( r = 0.417, P < 0.05), but no significant correlation between urinary fluoride level and BGP, β-CTX and PINP ( r = 0.127, 0.108, 0.129, P > 0.05). There was no significant correlation between urinary fluoride level and ALP, BGP, β-CTX and PINP in late pregnancy group ( r = 0.179, 0.158, 0.184, 0.149, P > 0.05). Conclusions:The urinary fluoride level of pregnant women in endemic fluorosis area is relatively stable in gestational period. The urinary fluoride level affects the ALP secretion of pregnant women in early and middle pregnancy. It is still necessary to strengthen the measures of improving water quality and defluoridation to reduce the impact of excessive fluoride intake on pregnancy complications in endemic fluorosis area.

Objective To conduct a computer simulation to evaluate the discrepancy between the cumulative doses calculated by four-dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) images and 4DCT scans (for real-time respiratory motions) due to the patient's irregular breathing. Methods A series of digital phantoms were generated from a patient's 4DCT images to simulate 4DCT images and 4DCT scans (for real-time respiratory motions) resulting from various irregular breathing curves.A six-field intensity-modulated radiotherapy plan was generated. Two cumulative doses in the target were calculated. The first one, named Dall, was calculated by tracking the point displacements in the target manifested on the 4DCT images;the second one, named D4D, was calculated based on the point displacements along the whole breathing motion during 4DCT scanning.Dose discrepancy between D4D and Dall was calculated to evaluate the correlation between breathing pattern and dose discrepancy in the target. Results The dose discrepancy in the target was correlated with mean motion excursion and the standard deviation of motion excursion.ΔDmin(ΔD99) in the target increased from 2.39%(2.04%) to 11.91%(5.24%) as the mean motion excursion increased from 5 mm to 15 mm, and increased from 5.93%(2.15%) to 14.65%(5.01%) as the standard deviation of motion excursion increased from 15% to 45% of the mean motion excursion. When the mean period increased from 3 s to 5 s or the standard deviation of period increased from 10% to 40% of the mean period,ΔDmin(ΔD99) in the target was greater than 6.0%(2.0%), but less than 9.0%(3.0%).When the target diameter was 2 cm, 3 cm, and 4 cm,ΔDminΔD99) in the target was 11.88%(5.50%), 6.91%(2.42%), and 7.53%(3.62%), respectively. Conclusions There is a large discrepancy between the cumulative doses calculated using 4DCT images and 4DCT scans (for real-time respiratory motions) when the patient has irregular breathing. This dose discrepancy depends on mean motion excursion and the standard deviation of motion excursion, but has little relationship with mean period, the standard deviation of period, and tumor volume.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the time trends of cancer mortality among residents in Kaifeng county, Henan province.
METHODSData on cancer mortality from the vital registration system in Kaifeng county from 1988 to 2005 was analyzed. A total of 9543 death records (5974 males and 3567 females) due to malignant tumors were studied. A two-year-period age-specified standardized mortality rates were directly adjusted by the world standard population, and the annual percentage change (APC) of mortality were estimated by a linear logarithm regression.
RESULTSThe crude cancer death rate for male was 95.09/100,000 and its age-standardized death rate was 117.41/100,000. While, the crude cancer death rate for female was 59.13/100,000 and the age-standardized death rate was 57.15/100,000. There was a significant growth tread for lung cancer (APC: 6.54%), liver cancer (5.07%) in males and breast cancer (7.04%) in females in the groups aged over 18. On the contrary, the decreasing treads for esophageal cancer in both of sexes (-7.09%, -13.53%) were also observed in this study. Meanwhile, there was no other significant changes in the trend, either in the tumor sites or mortality, was observed.
CONCLUSIONIn the past two decades, there has been a significant increasing trend for cancer mortality in Kaifeng county, of Henan Province. Hence, it is necessary to enhance epidemiological survey to identify risk factors at the earlier stages.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effects of indole-3-carbinol (I3C) on the outcome of the tumor as well as the changes of the anti-oxidative system in null mice grafted with nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
METHODS48 BALB/c null mice were divided by means of random number table into control group (0.5% sodium carboxyl methyl cellulose), low dosage (0.02 g/kg), middle dosage (0.1 g/kg) and high dosage (0.5 g/kg) of I3C. The mice were administered with different solutions by gavage for 10 days before CNE1 cells were inoculated subcutaneously into the back (near the armpit) of the nude mice, then the solutions were continually administered by gavage. The tumor volume was measured and the tumor inhibitory rate was calculated. The level of malondialdehyde (MDA), the activity of superoxide dismutases (SOD), the activity of glutathione peroxidase (GSHPx) and the expression of cleaved caspase-3 were determined on the 31th day of the study.
RESULTSI3C could reduce the tumor volume [the tumor volumes of the control group, the middle dosage group and the high dosage group were (4.13 +/- 0.53) x 10(-6) m(3), (3.14 +/- 0.71) x 10(-6) m(3), (2.72 +/- 0.29) x 10(-6) m(3)], as compared with the control, the shrinkage of tumor volume of the middle dosage group and the high dosage group were significant (the t valued at 0.990 and 1.510, P < 0.01). The tumor inhibitory rates of 3 groups were 3.8%, 20.5% and 34.9%, respectively. The contents of MDA in the tumor tissue tended to decrease [the values of control group, the low dosage group, the middle dosage group and the high dosage group were (31.29 +/- 2.51) x 10(-6) mol/L, (30.12 +/- 2.37) x 10(-6) mol/L, (23.32 +/- 1.93) x 10(-6) mol/L, (16.45 +/- 1.43) x 10(-6) mol/L] (F = 98.752, P < 0.01), and that of the high and the middle dosage group could obviously be reduced (t = 8.970, 14.840, P < 0.01) as compared with the control. The activity of SOD seemed to be elevated according to the increase of I3C dosage [the values were (387.24 +/- 23.16) x 10(3) U/L, (399.37 +/- 34.45) x 10(3) U/L, (431.63 +/- 31.24) x 10(3) U/L, (476.45 +/- 44.67) x 10(3) U/L] (F = 53.444, P < 0.01). When compared with the control, the SOD activity of the middle and the high dosage group be obviously increased (t = 44.390, 89.210, P < 0.01). I3C could also elevate the GSHPx activity [the GSHPx values of the four groups were (226.98 +/- 18.35) x 10(3) U/L, (234.65 +/- 15.59) x 10(3) U/L, (247.72 +/- 22.73) x 10(3) U/L, (300.37 +/- 26.02) x 10(3) U/L] (F = 25.916, P < 0.01). The GSHPx of the high dosage group was enhanced remarkable (t = 73.390, P < 0.01) as compared with the control. The expression of cleaved caspase-3 (relative molecular weight = 19 000 000) seemed to be elevated according to the increase of I3C dosage and the relative expression levels of which were 0.87 +/- 0.01, 0.97 +/- 0.01, 1.02 +/- 0.06 and 1.14 +/- 0.02 (F = 39.864, P < 0.01). When compared with the control, the elevation of this kind of cleaved caspase-3 was considered statistical significant (the t values were 0.100, 0.086 and 0.303, respectively, P < 0.05). When I3C dosage increased, the expression of cleaved caspase-3 (relative molecular weight = 17 000 000) seemed to increased too [the relative expression levels of which were 0.00 +/- 0.00, 0.05 +/- 0.02, 0.11 +/- 0.02, 0.20 +/- 0.02 (F = 56.629, P < 0.01)], and the increase of this kind of cleaved caspase-3 was esteemed significantly as compared with those of the control (the t valued at 0.046, 0.103 and 0.193, respectively, P < 0.05). Linear correlate analysis showed that the correlation coefficients between the shrinkage of tumor volume and the expression of the two kinds of cleaved caspase-3 protein was -0.732 (t = 3.404, P < 0.01) and -0.901 (t = 6.642, P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONI3C could reduce the growth of tumor, the mechanism underlie it could be related to the decrease of the content of MDA as well as the elevated levels of SOD, GSHPx, and perhaps could be related to the apoptosis transduced by cleaved caspase-3.
