Objective_ To investigate the effect of resting heart rate on the progression to diabetes in impaired glucose regulation patients. Methods A total of 638 patients with impaired glucose regulation, from January 2011 to December 2012 in our endocrinology clinic, were selected for the study. According to the resting heart rate, patients were divided into four groups:<66 beat/min group, 66 to 69 beat/min group, 70 to 75 beat/min group, and>75 beat/min groups. All patients'baseline data were collected. The incidences of diabetes in different resting heart rate groups were compared, and the relationship between resting heart rate and the progression to diabetes was estimated using multiple regression analysis. Results In 704 patients with impaired glucose regulation, 636 patients have been completed 2 years follow-up, or reached the end of follow-up ( diagnosed as diabetes ) , the follow-up rate was 90. 34%. During two years follow-up, the incidence of diabetes of<66 beat/min group, 66 to 69 beat/min group, 70 to 75 beat/min group, and>75 beat/min group were 16. 2%, 19. 4%, 25. 0%, and 33. 0%, respectivlely. And the Cochran Armitage trend test showed that χ2 =11. 109, P=0. 001, the difference was statistically significant ( P<0. 05). According to blood glucose monitoring, the 636 patients with impaired glucose regulation were divided into impaired fasting glucose group, impaired glucose tolerance group and impaired fasting glucose combined with impaired glucose tolerance group:the Cochran Armitage trend test showed that, with the resting heart rate accelerating, the incidence of diabetes increased. The incidence of diabetes in impaired fasting glucose combined with impaired glucose tolerance group was higher than that of impaired fasting glucose group and impaired glucose tolerance group ( P=0. 062, 0. 113). The average resting heart rate in 68 impaired glucose regulation patients progressed to diabetes was (79.8±8.3)beat/min,andin568non-diabetescases,itwas(74.5±7.2)beat/min(t=-5.043,P<0.01). With the use of patients progressing to diabetes as the dependent variable, different resting heart rate group as independent variables, and resting heart rate<66 beat/min group as a reference, the logistic regression analysis showed that the risk of the progression to diabetes increased with the resting heart rate levels. Conclusion Higher resting heart rate is linked to higher risk of diabetes in patients with impaired glucose regulation.

OBJECTIVETo explore the impacts on the cognitive level of the children with mental retardation (MR) treated with JIN's three scalp needling therapy and the training for cognitive and perceptual disturbance so as to seek the more effective therapeutic method for the treatment of MR in children. Methods Sixty-six MR children were randomized into a head-point needle-retaining therapy + training group (group A) and a training after acupuncture group (group B). Seven cases and 12 cases were dropped in the two groups respectively. Twenty-six cases accomplished the treatment in the group A and 21 cases in the group B. In the group A, the points on the head were stimulated and the needles were retained (30 min after the general acupuncture, the needles on the body points were removed; and those on the head points were retained for 1 h, including Sishenzhen, Naosanzhen, Zhisanzhen and Niesanzhen). Simultaneously, the training for the cognitive perceptual disturbance was combined. In the group B, 1 h after needle retaining at the body points and head points, all the needles were removed; the training for the cognitive perceptual disturbance was followed. The treatment was given once a day, and the treatment for 3 months was required. Before and after treatment, the Wechsler intelligence scale for children (WISC) was used for evaluation and observation of verbal intelligence quotient (VIQ) , performance intelligence quotient (PIQ) and full-scale intelligence quotient (TFIQ) and score changes of 11 items such as information, picture vocabu; lary, arithmetic, picture generalization, comprehension, etc.
RESULTSAfter treatment, FIQ, VIQ and PIQ scores were different significantly as compared with those before treatment (all P<0. 01). In the group A, the results of picture vocabulary, animal egg laying, maze, block design and geometric figure were all improved significantly (all P<0. 05). In the group B, the results of information, comprehension, block design and geometric figure were all improved significantly (all P<0. 05). After treatment, concerning the value difference in FIQ and PIQ of the two groups; the changes in the group A were more significant (both P<0. 01). After treatment, the results of picture vocabulary and maze were improved significantly in the group A as compared with the group B (both P<. 01). The IQ categories changed apparently after treatment in the two groups, toward the higher level in tendency generally, but without significant difference (both P>0. 05).
CONCLUSIONThe simultaneous treatment with head point retaining of JIN's three needling therapy and the training for cognitive and perceptual disturbance obviously improves children patients' verbal comprehension, expression ability, hand-eye coordination ability, attention, logical reasoning ability and visual perception. The efficacy is better than that in the treatment of the training after acupuncture.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson disease(PD) is a series of clinical symptom induced by decreased dopamine (DA) in the striatum due to nigral dopaminergic neuronal degeneration. The intracerebral transplantation of secretory DA can reverse or improve the symptoms to a certain extent, but immunologic rejection is still existed.OBJECTIVE: To probe into cell transplantation with immunoisolation in treatment of in rats without application of immunosuppress and observe its mechanical intensity and the biocompatibility of microcapsule .DESIGN: Randomized controlled experiment was designed.SETTING: Biomedical Material Engineering Group, Dalian Institute of ChemicalPhysics , Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Department of Neurology, Second Hospital of Jilin University.MATERIALS: The experiment was performed in Animal Experimental Center of Second Hospital of Jilin University from August 2003 to February 2004, in which, 40 male Wistar rats were employed. PC12 cell was provided from Shanghai Institute of Cellular Biology of Chinese Academy of Sciences.METHODS: 6-hydroxydopamine solution was infused in the striatum to prepare animal model of Parkinson disease. Twenty-five rats of those had been prepared successfully and were randomized into microencapsulated cell transplantation group (12 rats), in which, 25 μL cell-loading sodium alginate-chitosan-solium alginate(ACA)microencapsul suspension (equal to 2.5×104 cells) was injected stereotaxically on two points of the right (affected side) striatum of animal model; non-microencapsulated cell transplantation group (7 rats), in which, 25 μL PC12 cell suspension (equal to 5×104cells) was injected; and empty microcapsul transplantation group (6 rats),in which, 25 μL empty microcapsules suspension was injected . On the 7th day after transplantation, in every group, apomorphine (APO) prepared with saline solution was injected (0.05 mg/kg) subcutaneously in the neck; afterwards, the revolving behavior was recorded for each rat, once per week, totally for 12 weeks. In the 12th week after operation, the rats were sacrificed with anesthesia. The brain tissue was collected for pathological observation and microcapsule were retrieved to evaluation of biocompatibility and immunoisolation.numbers before and after transplantation of each group.RESULTS:Twenty-five rats entered result analysis and the rest was sule: the retrieved ACA microcapsule was integrative in morphology, munoisolation of microcapsule: microencapsuled PC12 cells were prolifercycles before and after transplantation of each group: the records of lateral revolving of rats in every group before transplantation were not significantly different (P > 0.05). In microencapsuled cell transplantation group, 2weeks later, the average number of revolving was significantly lower than that before the transplantation, or even the revolving stopped; the improved symptoms were maintained till the 12th week after transplantation. In nonmicroencapsulated cell transplantation group, the average revolving number was also significantly lower than that before the transplantation, but that on the 8th and 12th weeks was in tendency of increase, without obvious change compared with that before the transplantation (P > 0.05). The revolving number before and after transplantation in non-microencapsulated transplantation group was similar[(10.5±1.4), (10.5±1.3) cyclos/min, P > 0.05].microcapsule provides immune protection. The grafted encapsulated PC12cells survive for along term in the brain of rats with PD, maintain continuously the normal physiological function and improve the symptoms of PD by synthesizing and releasing DA.

Objective:To identify proteins associated with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) metastasis, and provide scientific basis for the prevention and cure of NPC.Methods:A two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry were performed to screen for differential proteins between highly metastatic 5-8F and non-metastatic 6-10B NPC cell lines.Western blot was used to confirm the differential proteins. We used siRNA to inhibit the expression of differential protein nm23-H1 to determine the association of nm23-H1 with NPC in vitro invasive ability.Immunohistochemistry and statistics were used to evaluate the correlation of nm23-H1 expression with clinicopathological features and clinical outcomes in paraffin-embedded archival tissues including 93 cases of primary NPC and 20 cases of cervical lymphonode metastatic NPC (LMNPC).Results:A total of 15 differential proteins in the 2 cell lines were identified by a proteomic approach, and 3 differential proteins were selectively confirmed.Downregulation of nm23-H1 by siRNA significantly increased the in vitro invasive ability of 6-10B.Significant nm23-H1 downregulation was observed in LMNPC compared with primary NPC.nm23-H1 downregulation in primary NPC was positively correlated with lymphonode and distant metastasis, advanced clinical stage and recurrence.Survival curves showed that patients with nm23-H1 downregulation in primary NPC had a poor prognosis.Multivariate analysis confirmed that nm23-H1 expression level in primary NPC was an independent prognostic indicator.Conclusion:nm23-H1 behaves as a metastasis suppressor in NPC,and nm23-H1 downregulation is a biomarker for poor NPC prognosis.
