Objective To construct and evaluate a novel PAMAM dendrimer vector-DNA vaccine for schistosomiasis japonica. Methods Lysine was used to modify 4.0G PAMAM.and the modified product PAMAM-Lys was synthesized.Agarose gel electrophoresis was used to confirm the composite ratio of plasmid DNA and dendrimer.Micrestructure of the compound was observed by using transmission electronic microscopy, and the stability was analyzed by using electrophoresis. The viability of the cells transfected with dendrimers was evaluated by using a MTT technique in vitro.Fiftyty mice were immunized with purified plasmid pJW4303,pJW4303-Sj23 dendrimer PAMAM-Lys and compound PAMAM-Lys/pJW4303-Sj23,respectively.The specific antibodies of the mice in each group were detected to access the immunoreactivity. Results The agarese gel electrophoresis showed that when the charge ratio of the dendrimer vector and DNA was between 2 and 4,the positive and negative charges could be counteraeted completely, and the compound was blocked completely by DNA electrophoresis. The obscrvation results with transmission electronic microscopy showed that the composition of dendrimer vector and DNA caused shrink of DNA structure.Dendrimer-DNA compound had a good stability.MTT showed the modified dendrimer vector and DNA compound system produced a lower cell toxicity on 293T cell than the unmodified Ones.Thk levels of specific antibodies of the mice immunized with PAMAM-Lys/pJW4303Sj23 were significantly higher than those of the mice immunized with naked DNA vaccine(P<0.05).Conclusions The lysinemodified PAMAM-lys is an excellent vector, and has an appropriate biocompatibility.Lysine-modification can reduce the cell toxicity of PAMAM dendrimer significantly.PAMAM-Lys can enhance the immunoreactivity of DNA vacmine which merits further application in schistosomiasis DNA vaccine.
2.Exploration and practice of blended teaching model in medical English teaching
Chinese Journal of Medical Education Research 2018;17(8):786-790
A major problem for medical English teaching has always been fewer qualified medical English teachers. As a new teaching model, the blended teaching mode has become the focus of education reform. Xiamen Medical College tries to apply it in medical English classes, combining online and offline teachings, i.e. the remote teaching by foreign teachers and face-to-face instruction by Chinese English teachers in medical English class. The didactic method, cooperative teaching method, and task-based teaching method of instruction are used both in online and offline teaching processes. Medical situations are created and different teaching activities are adopted in medical English class, including role-playing, medical videos watching, and medical record writing. Language skills such as speaking, reading, and writing are trained. It is hoped that through blended teaching, the quality of medical English teaching will be improved, and the exploration will provide experience for the teaching reform of medical English.
3.Application of case-based teaching in medical English teaching
Chinese Journal of Medical Education Research 2022;21(5):538-541
In order to improve the quality of medical English teaching, Xiamen Medical College has applied case-based teaching mode in medical English classes for nursing undergraduate students. In the practice of case-based teaching, it mainly uses case presentation, role-play, personal reflective stories sharing, or fast case analysis in classroom teaching, thus changing the traditional teaching mode of "teachers' teaching" to "students' speaking", which may improve students' situational English speaking, critical thinking, independent thinking and problem-solving, independent learning and communication ability.

Objective To evaluate the quality and application of the Pocket Book of Bilingual Nursing Vocabulary of Fundamental Nursing Skills. Methods Anonymous questionnaire surveys were conducted among 180 nursing students (English orientation) of Nursing Department of Xiamen Medical College to investigate the application effectiveness of the Pocket Book of Bilingual Nursing Vocabulary of Fundamental Nursing Skills. The contents of questionnaire survey included:the students' views on vocabulary difficulty level, content, and layout of the textbook.A total of 180 questionnaires were distributed and 172 valid questionnaires were retrieved.Percentages were used to describe students' evaluation on the effectiveness of the textbooks. Results 89.4% of students' good evaluation of the teaching material was mainly manifested in the following aspects:large and highly targeted vocabulary by 84.9% (146/172),comprehensive and practical vocabulary by 89.0% (153/172),closely linked to nursing by 81.4% (140/172),focusing on English proficiency by 81.4% (140/172),learning aided with phonetic symbols by 93.0% (160/172) and easy memorizing with illustrated pictures by 94.8% (163/172),small and potable by 95.3% (164/172).Conclusion This teaching material is comprehensive, practical, small and portable and is an innovation of content and format with illustrated pictures, has been proved to be in bilingual nursing teaching. It also provides a positive valuable reference to teachers on the other bilingual teaching or compiling other supplementary bilingual textbooks.
