Objective To report the first case of cutaneous type adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma(cATLL) in China. Methods The skin lesion was examined by histopathology and direct immunofluorescence (DIF), and the immunophenotype was also studied. ELISA and Western blot were used to test the serum antibodies to HTLV-Ⅰ, and HTLV-Ⅰproviral DNA of lymphoid cells was detected by PCR. Results The patient had polymorphic skin lesions including papules, plaques, and bullae with tense or flaccid walls. Histopathogical examination showed subepidermal bullae, and there were small-to-medium-sized atypical lymphoid cell infiltrations in the dermal papilla in the bottom, and border of the bulla. CD45+ and CD45RO+ staining, and negative DIF were observed in the atypical lymphoid cells. The serum antibodies to HTLV-Ⅰ, and proviral DNA of HTLV-Ⅰin the blood lymphoid cells were detected. The patient died with a disease course of one year and ten months. Conclusion ATLL is not extremely rare in China, and cATLL may also exist.

Objective To report a case of lymphomatoid papulosis(LyP)followed by mycosis fun-goides(MF)during his27years course and determine whether these diseases are clonally related.Methods Characteristics of clinicopathology and immunophenotype of skin tissues of different phases of the patients were compared.Simultaneously,clonal T-cell receptor gene rearrangement of skin lesion tissues and blood specimens were detected by means of polymerase chain reaction and Southern blot analysis.Results A dis-tinct clinical and pathological feature was shown in this case of LyP followed by MF.The proliferating lym-phocytes in LyP and MF were mature T helper lymphocytes,and with same T-cell clone.Conclusion LyP followed by MF displays a same T-cell clone.The clonal T-cell is irrelevant to the biological behavior of these diseases.

OBJECTIVE To report the investigation on validating clinical moist sterilizer by applying wireless thermo-loggers in accordance with the advanced Euro and British standards.METHODS The validation had been implemented with microbiological tests and thermometric tests to measure the temperature distribution of the chamber of sterilizer,the temperature and time relation inside the tested package of small and challenge loads,the pressure of the chamber and the temperature beside the drainage.RESULTS The measurements presented the relation between temperature and time measurements of the spots inside the chamber of the tested sterilization loads.CONCLUSIONS The measurement results indicate directly the operation condition and the temperature-time relation inside sterilization loads.These measurements are helpful for controlling sterilization quality.The results of microbiological tests are negative,which are consistent with that of thermomeric tests.

Using universal primer Ty1-copia retrotransposon RT,43 Ty1-copia like retrotransposon RT with high heterogeneity, stop codon mutation and frameshift mutation were amplified by PCR from genomic DNA of Zhejiang Lin'an (C15) and Yunnan Guangnan (A39) of Dendrobium officinale. The length of these sequences varied from 260 to 266 bp, and was rich in AT and consistency ranged from 47.1% to 97.7%. Different c/s-acting regulatory elements induced by low temperature, heat, light, all kinds of plant growth regulating substances and the starting transcription signals, corresponding to CAAT box, TATA box conserved sequences and some other regulatory elements. When being translated into amino acids, ten sequences presented stop codon mutation, five sequences presented frameshift mutation, and thirty-seven sequences presented conserved sequence "SLYGKQ" mutation. Six categories were identified through phylogenic analysis after alignment analyses of their amino acid sequences, and with other plants (eg. Triticum aestivum, Eleocharis quinqueflora) having high homology, which indicated that horizontal transmission of retrotransposon occurred among the plants in the past.

Using universal primer Tyl-copia retrotransposon RT, the conserved reverse transcriptase domain of about 260 bp was amplified by RT-PCR from the Dendrobium officinale which induced by 100 micromol x L(-1) abscisic acid (ABA), indicating these retrotransposons activated by 100 micromol x L(-1) ABA. The amplicons were recovered and cloned,then sequenced and analyzed by related bioinformatics software. Forty-two Ty1-copia like retrotransposon RT transcriptionally activated were obtained with high heterogeneity. The length of these sequences varied from 247 to 266 bp, and was rich in AT and homology ranged from 46.3% to 98.9%. The same to Ty1-copia like retrotransposon RT of genome, different c/s-acting regulatory elements induced by stress conditions and the starting transcription signals, corresponding to CAAT box, TATA box conserved sequences and some other regulatory elements. The c/s-acting regulatory elements induced by stress conditions of reverse transcriptase transcriptionally activated of Tyl-copia retrotransposons were significantly increased than that of Ty1-copia like retrotransposon RT of genome. When being translated into amino acids, fifteen sequences presented stop codon mutation, nineteen sequences presented frameshift mutation, and all sequences presented conserved sequence "SLYGKQ" mutation. Five categories were identified through phylogenic analysis after alignment analyses of their amino acid sequences, and with Ty1-copia like retrotransposon RT of genome having low homology, which indicated that reverse transcriptase transcriptionally activated of Ty1-copia retrotransposons which induced by ABA had Significantly differences with Ty1-copia like retrotransposon RT of genome.

Objective To observe the effects of grape seed proanthocyanidin extract (GSPE)combined with atorvastatin on carotid atherosclerosis of the elderly. Methods Consecutivly 122 patient aged( 73.2 ±12.8) years with hypercholesterolemia and diagnosed as asymptomatic carotid artery plaques were randomly assigned to single atorvastatin(20 mg/d) treatment group (n=63) and combination treatment (atorvastatin 10 mg/d plus GSPE 400 mg/d) group (n=59).Serum total cholesterol (TC),triglyceride (TG),low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C),high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels were detected before treatment and 3,6,12 months after treatment.Mean maximum carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT),plaque score and stability were also assessed by carotid ultrasound. Results After 3 months of treatment,serum levels of TC,TG and LDL-C in both groups were lower than before treatment (all P＜0.01),but no difference was found between the two groups (P＞0.05).HDL-C levels was enhanced by 20.2％ in combination treatment group after 3 months of treatment (P＜0.05),there was difference after 6 months treatment between two groups (P＜0.05).Serum hs-CRP concentrations were decreased by 1.7 mg/L and 3.6 mg/L,3.8 mg/L and 6.3 mg/L,5.9 mg/L and 8.3 mg/L after 3,6 and 12 months treatment as compared with pretreatment,respectively in the two groups (P＜0.05 or P＜0.01).There was difference in hs-CRP levels between groups after 6 and 1.2months of treatment (P＜0.05 or P＜0.01).There were MMCIMT reduction by 1.3％ and 2.0％ (P＞0.05),3.4％ and 5.3％(P＞0.05 and P＜0.05 ),5.1％ and 8.6％ after 3,6 and 12 months of treatment(P＜0.05 and P＜0.01) in the two groups,with distinct difference after 12 month treatment (P＜ 0.01 ).The plaque scores were declined by 6.8 ％ and 13.1％ ( both P ＞ 0.05 ),14.5 ％ and 28.0％ (P＞0.05 and P＜0.05),19.2％ and 45.0％(P＜0.05 and P＜0.01)after 3,6 and 12 months of treatment while significant difference was found between the two groups after 12 months treatment (P＜0.05).Unstable plaque and the total number of plaque was dropped by 8 and 14 in single group,19 and 28 in combination group,respectively,after 12 months of treatment. Conclusions GSPE combined with atorvastatin may inhibit the development of carotid intima-media thickness,reduce carotid plaque and promote stabilization of carotid plaque.

Methods and Results: HuIL-3 cDNA was inserted into polylinker site of retroviral vector pMNSMto construct retr0viral vector pMNS-IL-3, in which the transcription of HuIL-3 cDNA was drived by SV40early region promoter. Human Q-fetoprotein gene enhancer core sequence was released from plasmidpGEM. 7Zf-AFPe and inserted into the polylinker site of pMNSM. Then human interleukin-3 cDNA wasinserted int0 p0lylinker site to construct retroviral vector pMNSA-IL-3, in which HuIL-3 cDNA transcrip-tion was drived by SV40 early region promoter and enhanced by human a-fetoprotein enhancer core se-quence- Conclusion: The vectors are of significance for hepatoma-specific gene therapy.

Objective To analyse the femoral head coverage rate of CT in evaluation of Salter osteotomy for developmental dislocation of hip(DDH) in children. Methods Thirty-eight patients with unilateral DDH for Salter osteotomy were enrolled,and X ray photography of pelvis and spiral CT scanning of femoral articulation were performed one week before and 6 months after Salter osteotomy.The femoral head coverage rate of X ray and that of CT were calculated and compared.Another 38 children with normal femoral articulation were served as controls.
