Objective To evaluate the applied value of multislice CT (MSCT) in the selection of living donor kidneys and excision methods. Methods Ninety living renal donors underwent MSCT assessment. The nonenhanced, arterial, venous and excretory phase examinations were performed.Using maximum intensity projection and volume rendering techniques for vascular imaging, two blinded radiologists independently analyzed and evaluated all MSCT images.According to the CT reconstructive images, radiologists and physicians selected the left renal or the right renal donors, and chose laparoscopic or open live donor nephrectomy. Results On the 90 cases of donors,78 donors underwent nephrectomy in the left kidney.Seventy-one left kidney donors having no significant variation received the routine laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy.Seven left kidney donors on both sides had relatively obvious anatomical variations such as accessory renal artery,multi-branch renal vein and renal vein in the back of the abdominal aorta, and they were subjected to the left kidney open donor nephre.ctomy.Other 12 donors having significant variation in the left kidney were given nephrectomy in the right kidney, and all of them received hand-assisted laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy. All intraoperative records of urine collection system and renal vascular anatomy were consistent with the preoperative evaluation of MSCT,and the accuracy was 100 %.Two imaging experts in the evaluation of renal artery, renal vein and urine collection system showed good consistency.Nephrectomy was successfully performed on 90 cases of donors, and.postoperative recipients had no renal vein thrombosis and other vascular complications. Conclusion MSCT can provide accurate and valuable information for the selection of living donor kidneys and excision methods as a “one-stop” technique for the preoperative evaluation of living renal donors.

Nine morphologic traits, plant height, ground diameter, leaf length, leaf width, leaf area of plant, leaf fresh weight, blades, length/width ratio, plant fresh weight of Anoectochilus roxburghii from 13 different areas were determined for correlation analysis, path analysis and principal components analysis. Different source of morphological trait variation coefficient of A. roxburghii was 2.96% -12.59%, plant fresh weight was significant positively correlated with ground diameter, plant height and leaf number, and positively correlated with leaf fresh weight. Path analysis showed that plant height had the largest positive direct effect on plant fresh weight, the leaf fresh weight and blades number had indirect effects on the plant fresh weight. Through principal component analysis, morphological traits of A. roxburghii can be divided into "Determinants of high-yielding morphology" and "Determinants of leaf production". In the actual process of production and breeding of A. roxburghii, we should pay attention to plant height, leaf fresh weight, blades numbers and other traits.

Objective To analyze the clinical value of 16-row multislice CT in the live kidney donor preoperative assessment. Methods Thirty-six kidney donors underwent 16-slice CT preopera-tive assessment. The non-enhanced, arterial phase, venous phase and excretory phase examinations were performed. Two radiologists independently studied renal vessels and urinary system of each case by maximum intensity projections and volume rendering techniques. The specificity and accuracy of 16-row muhislice CT in the evaluation o{ renal vessels and urinary system were calculated after comparing with surgical findings as reference. Results 16-row muhislice CT found 7 variant renal arteries. One variant artery confirmed in surgery was missed in the CT study. 16-row muhislice CT made cor-rect diagnosis of all variant anatomy of renal veins and ureters which were confirmed in surgery. For i-dentification of variant anatomy of renal arteries, veins and ureters, the specificity of 16-slice CT was 100% (29/29), 100% (32/32), and 100% (35/35), the overall accuracy was 97%(36/37), 100% (36/ 36), and 100%(36/36), respectively. Conclusions 16-row muhislice CT shows excellent value in the evaluation of renal vessels and urinary system in live kidney donors. 16-row multislice CT is suit-able for the noninvasive examination in live kidney donor preoperative assessment and provides all sup-portive and relevant information required by the surgeons.

Acta Physiologica Sinica 2003;55(1):29-35
To determine the effect of stress on carotid sinus baroreceptor reflex (CSR) and whether or not central histaminergic receptors modulate the CSR under stress, the characteristics of CSR were analyzed by using an isolated carotid sinus preparation in Wistar rats. Animals were divided into two groups at random: unstressed group (n=42) and stressed group (n=41). According to the site of microinjection of histaminergic receptor antagonists, each group was subdivided into a group of intracerebroventricular injection (i.c.v.) and a group of microinjection into the nucleus of the solitary tract (NTS). The volume of injection into the lateral cerebroventricle and NTS was 5 microl and 1 micro1, respectively. Stressed groups were subjected to unavoidable electric foot-shock twice daily for a week, each session of foot-shock lasted 2 hours. The left and right carotid sinus regions were isolated from the systemic circulation under anesthesia with pentobarbital sodium in all rats. The intracarotid sinus pressure (ISP) was altered in a stepwise manner to trigger CSR from 0 to 280 mmHg at every step of 40 mmHg and 4 s, and then returned to 0 mmHg in similar steps. ISP and mean arterial pressure (MAP) were recorded simultaneously. ISP-MAP relationship curve was constructed by fitting to the logistic function with five parameters. The CSR parameters and the ISP-MAP relationship curve were separately compared statistically. The main results obtained are as follows. (1) Stress significantly shifted the ISP-MAP relationship curve upwards and obviously moved the middle part of ISP-Gain relationship curve downwards, and decreased the value of the MAP range and maximum gain (G(max)), but increased the threshold pressure (TP), saturation pressure (SP), set point and ISP at G(max) (ISP(Gmax)). (2) I.c.v. of H1 receptor antagonist chlorpheniramine (CHL, 5 microg) or H2 receptor antagonist cimetidine (CIM, 15 g) significantly diminished the above-mentioned changes in CSR performance induced by stress; the alleviative effect of CIM was less remarkable than that of CHL. The responses of CSR in stressed rats to H(1) or H(2) receptor antagonists generally occurred 20 min after the administration and lasted approximately for 15 min. (3) After microinjection of CHL (0.5 microg) or CIM (1.5 microg) into the NTS, the responses of CSR in stressed groups were similar to those after i.c.v. injection of CHL or CIM. (4) However, microinjection of CHL or CIM into the lateral cerebroventricle or the NTS could not completely abolish the stress-induced changes in CSR. These findings suggest that stress results in a resetting of CSR, a decrease in reflex sensitivity. The stress-induced changes in CSR may be mediated, at least in part, by activating the brain histaminergic system. The central histaminergic receptors (H(1) and H(2) receptors) may play an important role in the resetting of CSR under stress. The descending histaminergic pathway from the hypothalamus to NTS may be involved in these effects.
