The platelet aggregation and release reaction, the haemostatic factors and fibrinolytic activity were measured in 36 patients with early retinal vein occlusion (RVO) and 20 control subjects. The mean levels of platelet aggregation, plasma fibronection, factor Ⅷ antigen and plasminogen were significantly higher in the patients than in the controls. These findings showed that the blood hypercoagulant state was present in patients with RVO, and these abnormalities in blood coagulation could play an important role in the onset and development of RVO and its ischaemic complications.

Objective To evaluate the rapid diagnosis of bacterial and (or) fungal endophthalmitis by multiplex polymerase chain reaction (MPCR). Methods MPCR was performed to detect the DNA segment of bacteria and (or) fungi from standard strains and 41 samples of intraocular fluid or vitreous from 38 patients (3 with double eyes and 35 with single), and the results were compared with the cultured bacteria and fungi. Results Five hours after detected by MPCR, bacteria and (or) fungi in 34 out of 41 samples (82.9%) from patients were detected,including bacteria in 26,fungi in 6,and both bacteria and fungi in 2. ObjectiveTo explore the molecular epidemiological characteristics of group A rotavirus diarrhea in children in Shanghai and to provide the background data for the implementation of rotavirus vaccination.MethodsA total of 910 stool samples were collected from the outpatient children with acute diarrhea from August 2008 to July 2009.Group A rotavirus was detected by usingcommercial colloidal gold device.Rotavirus strains were characterized for G and P genotypes using the nested reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).ResultsGroup A rotavirus was detected in 268(29.4％) out of 910 stool samples.Rotavirus infection was found year-round and the peak season was from October 2008 to January 2009,with the detection rates ranging from 38.3 ％ to 70.5％.Ninety-one percent of children (244 cases) with rotavirus-associated diarrhea occurred in children ＜3 years of age.The detection rate of rotavirus was highest (36.6％) in children aged 12-23 months.Among the 268 group A rotavirus-positive strains,G1 was the most common G genotype (65 strains),accounting for 24.3％,followed by G3 (40 strains,14.9％),G mixed genotypes (37strains,13.8 ％),G2 (27 strains,10.1％),G9 (14 strains,5.2％),G4(5 strains,1.9％),other G types (5 strains,1.9％),and unclassified G type (75 strains,28.0％).P[8] and P[4] were the most common P genotypes,accounting for 54.9％ (147 strains) and 11.9％ (32 strains),respectively,followed by P mixed genotypes (6 strains,2.2％) and other P genotypes (4 strains,1.5％),unclassified P type (79 strains,29.5％).The G/P genotype combinations were found as follows:G1P [8] (13.4％),G3P[8] (13.4％),GmixP[8] (10.1％),G1P[4] (8.2％),G9P[8] (2.2％),G2P [4] (1.9％),G1Pmix (1.9％).ConclusionsGroup A rotavirus is a major causative agent of diarrhea in infants and young children in Shanghai.The peak season of rotavirus infection appears in fall and winter.The currently licensed rotavirus vaccines cover the majority of genotypes of rotavirus strains prevailing in Shanghai.

BACKGROUND: With the advancements in helical CT myelography and computer image postprocessing, virtual medical imaging has acquired good outcomes in the diagnosis and treatment of complex cervical spondylosis. OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects and significance of helical CT myelography on multiplanar and three-dimensional reconstruction of virtual anatomical models of cervical spondylosis. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: The present computer three-dimensional reconstruction, gold standard control study was performed at the Second Hospital Affiliated to Soochow University between January 2001 and January 2006. PARTICIPANTS: Twenty patients with complex cervical spondylosis, who had received surgery, were employed for this study. METHODS: Virtual anatomical model of cervical spondylosis was established by multiplanar and three-dimensional reconstruction through the use of helical CT myelography in 20 patients. Scanning and reconstruction results were used for pre-surgery disease condition evaluation and virtual surgery. In addition, surgical intuitionistic results were considered gold standard to evaluate the accuracy and efficacy of virtual anatomical models. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The accuracy and efficacy of virtual anatomical models. RESULTS: Virtual anatomical models could concurrently show bony and membranate vertebral canals. These exhibited comprehensive and minute bony anatomic structure of cervical vertebrae and anatomic information regarding dura mater, spinal cord, and nerve sleeve for pre-surgery evaluation and virtual surgery. The imaging virtual anatomic information was in accordance with practical anatomical information in patients. CONCLUSION: Virtual anatomical model can be used to comprehensively evaluate the disease condition of cervical spondylosis and simulate the surgery due to its intuitionistic, vivid, and accurate display of anatomy of cervical vertebrae.
