AIM: This paper summarized the actions of propolis on anti pathogen, anti inflammation, analgesia, anti ulcer, sedation, narcosis and so on. An evaluation of the pharmacological effects, and toxicity was also made. In addition, the clinical applications of propolis on oral cavity diseases were induced, such as dental caries, tooth damages, dental pulp diseases, periodontium diseases, and oral mucosa diseases. This article also prospected the distinctive advantages and application foreground of propolis as a kind of high efficiency natural medicinal material.

The total glucosides of Paeony root ( TGPs ) extracted from Anhui Boxian Paeonia lactiflora Pall can dialet the vessels of rabbit's ears in vitro and increased both the number of drops and the volume (ml) per minute. TGPs had no definite effects on the isolated aorta strips of rabbits directly, but it significantly increased the contraction of aorta strips induced by NA. In vivo, TGPs raised the diasto-lic pressure (which could not be blocked by phentolamine) , and increased the dp/dtmax and decreased the heart rate. TGPs also strengthened the effect of raising the blood pressure and increasing the heart sound intensity induced by NA. The results about the blood pressure and heart function studied on cats were almost the same as on rabbits

AIM　This paper was to review the methods of establishing experimental animal models of intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) and their observed index. METHODS　Passive smoking, passive smoking plus drinking wine, NG nitro-L-arginine methyl ester, dactinomycin, thiamine deficiency plus pyrithiamine, or ligating the uterine artery during pregnancy were used.RESULT　The fatal and maternal body weight was lower body length; was shorter; infant physique and nerve system development was slow.CONCLUSION　The above methods could establish animal models of IUGR.

AIM To study the effect of polysaccharides 2b from Mudan cortex (PSM 2b) on type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) rats and explore its mechanism. METHODS T2DM rat model was established by low dosage streptozotocin and high sucrose fat diet. The drugs were administrated by ig for 5 weeks. The serum glucose was assayed with GOD POD method. Insulin was determined by radioimmunoassay. Insulin receptors of the plasma membrane from rat liver were determined with radioligand binding assay of receptors (RBAR). RESULTS PSM 2b could significantly lower fasting blood glucose (FBG), improve impaired glucose telarance (IGT) and dyslipidemia. It could also remarkably raise receptor total (RT2) of the low affinity insulin receptor (InsR) and insulin sensitivity index (ISI) in T2DM rats. CONCLUSION PSM 2b has an obvious therapeatic effect on T2DM in rats. Its mechamsm is relatively improve insulin resistance (IR) in T2DM rats by raising the number of InsR.

AIM: To study the hypoglycemic action of cortex moutan polysaccharide 2b (CMP 2b) and the its mechanism. METHODS: Some animal models in this study included the glucose induced hyperglycemic model in mice, the alloxan induced diabetic model in mice and rats, and the HCSS induced insulin resistance model in mice. Those models were used to investigate the effects of CMP 2b on blood glucose of normal and hyperglycemic model animals, on serum superoxide dismutase (SOD), serum insulin, glycated hemoglobin (GHb), and apolipoproteinA 1 (ApoA 1) in alloxan diabetic animals. RESULTS: CMP 2b significantly lowered the blood glucose in hyperglycemic mice and rats induced by glucose and alloxan. CMP 2b also raised the SOD and ApoA 1 level, decreased the GHb level in diabetic animals, and improved insulin resistance in mice. CONCLUSION: CMP 2b can control experimental hyperglycemia. Its mechanism is related to improving insulin sensitivity and enhancing the utilization of glucose in peripheral tissues.

ObjectiveTo assess the value of transvalvular pressure gradient (TPG) by use of realtime color Doppler echocardiography in percutaneous balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty (PBPV).Methods Patients with pulmonic stenosis (80 cases) were performed by PBPV,in which the pilmonic annular diameter and TPG were measured by using of 2-D and color Doppler echocardiography in the different periods of this operation.Results The pilmonic annular diameter was not significantly difference by intraoperative echocardiography and radiography measurement (t =2.013,P ＞ 0.05).And pressure measurement by catheterization pre- and post-dilatation was not markedly significant ( t =1.258,P ＞0.05).However,TPG in patients with the different degree of pulmonic stenosis were decreased significantly ( P ＜0.01).PBPV treatments in the mild pulmonic stenosis for twice got an excellent effect according to operation criteria,but PBPV treatment in patients with the moderate and severe pulmonic stenosis need to be done for three times.ConclusionsReal-time color Doppler echocardiography is an effective way and plays a guiding role in PBPV.
