Influence of extraction process on the quality of Maxingshigan pills was studied. Guided by the amount of ephedrine in the extraction as determined by dual wavelength TL- C-scanning. Four different processes were compared. Result showed that Process C was the best among all.

Objective To investigate the changes in semen of chronic prostatitis patients and their impact on the fertile status. Methods The semen of 86 chronic prostatitis patients and 32 fertile volunteers were analyzed, and the main semen parameters of two groups were compared. Results The mean semen volume, sperm motility and normal sperm morphology of the prostitis patients were 2.08 ml,65.43% and 62.14% respectively, significantly lower than those of fertile men( P = 0.003 , P

Objective To explore the methods for training the abitity of critical thinking of ICU nurses. Methods ICU nurses were trained in terms of knowledge training, case study, care rounds, self-reflection, case discussion, simulation training and seminars. The Chinese version of the critical thinking disposition inventory(CTDI-CV)was used before and one year after the training.Result The scores on CTDI-CV as well as the items after training were all significantly higher than that before training(P<0.05).Conclusion The knowledge and ability in critical thinking can be improved by knowledge and skills training.

The focal hepatic lesion caused by local injection of absolute alcohol in rats was evaluated with ultrasonic contrast agent and pathologic examination. Twenty adult Wistar rats weighing about 200 g were injected with absolute alcohol (0.05-0.1 mL each one) on the exterior left lobe of the liver under the monitoring of ultrasound. Pulse inversion harmonic imaging was used to evaluate the focal lesion after bolus injection of ultrasonic contrast agent (0.05 mL/200 g) through caudal vein. Seven days later, the focal lesion was studied again as before. The exterior left lobe of liver with focal lesion was incised and underwent pathologic examination. The results showed that all of the focal lesions could be defined clearly after bolus injection of the ultrasonic contrast agent under the mode of pulse inversion harmonic imaging. There was good correlation between the size of the focal lesion measured by ultrasound on the 7th day after the "ablation" under the mode of pulse inversion harmonic imaging and that gotten by pathologic examination (P = 0.39). The focus size measured by ultrasound right after the ablation was larger than that gotten by pathologic examination (P = 0.002). It was concluded that ultrasonic contrast agent plus pulse inversion harmonic imaging could be used to assess the size of the focal hepatic lesion caused by local injection of absolute alcohol in rats.

Acta Anatomica Sinica 1953;0(01):-
The effects of formaldehyde fixation on the binding capacity of opiate receptors were studied with radioreceptorassay and in vitro receptor autoradiography. Incubation with 1% paraformaldehyde for 30 minutes or 12 hours has no significant influence on the binding capacity of opiate receptors of rat brain P_2 membranes, and incubation with 2% or 4% paraformaldehyde for 30 minutes also did not alter the binding capacity of opiate receptors significantly, but 12 hour incubation with 2% or 4% paraformaldehyde would change the binding capacity significantly. The saturation curve of [~3H]-etorphine binding with opiate receptors in formaldehyde fixed brain tissue sections coincided with that of unfixed brain tissue sections. The opiate receptors were successfully demonstrated with in vitro receptor autoradiography in 1% paraformaldehyde fixed spinal cord sections. These results indicate that formaldehyde fixed tissue are applicable to in vitro receptor autoradiography.

Objective To investigate the role of Astragahs in alleviating adhesion of neutrophils to HK-2 cells induced by postasphyxial-serum of neonate and its signal transduction mechanism. MethodsHK-2 cells were used as target cell. Control group, asphyxia group, Astragalus group were divided in the experiment. The 20% (volume fraction) postasphyxial-serum was used as attacking factor. The following indicators were detected: cellular morphology and neutrophils adhesion were observed with inverted microscope. The activity of myeloperoxidase (MPO) in the cell suspension were determined by biochemistry assay as the indicator for adhesion of neutrophils to HK-2. Intercellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1) were examined by flow eytometer. ResultsThe neutrophils numbers (MPO activity) and ICAM-1 expression in asphyxia group were higher than that of the control group, but dramatically decreased in Astragalus group (P < 0.05). ConclusionsThese data demonstrated that Astragalus could alleviate the adhesion of neutrophils from neonate with asphyxia to HK-2 and it' s intracellular signal transduction mechanism is presumably involved in the inhibition of ICAM-1 expression on HK-2 cellular membrane.
