Chinese Journal of School Health 2022;43(2):221-224
Objective:
To explore the effect of behavioral activation (BA) therapy on depressive mood and behavioral characteristics among subliminal depressed nursing students, and to provide a reference for effective mental health education to nursing students.
Methods:
A cluster sampling method was used to select 614 sophomore nursing students from a medical college in Jiangxi Province. Sixty subjects who met the inclusion criteria were enrolled in the study, and divided into a control group and an intervention group using a random number table method, with 30 participants in each group. The control group received general mental health education, and the intervention group participated in a BA intervention on the basis of general mental health education. The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CES-D), Beck Depression Inventory II(BDI-II) and the Behavioral Activation For Depression Scale Short Form (BADS-SF) were used to evaluate students depression status before, immediately after, and 1 month after the intervention, respectively.
Results:
The time effect, group effect, and time group interaction of the CES-D, BDI-II and BADS-SF scores of the two groups of students were all statistically significant ( F =82.78, 9.65, 69.92; 42.19, 10.52, 13.50; 15.59 , 19.61, 8.49, P <0.01). Immediately after the intervention and 1 month after the intervention, the CES-D and BDI-II scores of the intervention group were significantly lower than those of the control group, and the BADS-SF score of the intervention group (14.63±4.63, 14.80±4.85; 11.23±4.98, 11.13±5.53) was significantly lower than that of the control group (22.67±6.70, 22.13±5.66; 17.57±9.59, 18.37±7.91); the differences were all statistically significant ( P <0.05).
Conclusion
BA shows lasting effects on alleviating depressive symptoms among nursing students with subthreshold depression, improve their behavioral activation level, and have a lasting effect. Nursing educators can improve the depression of nursing students and improve their mental health through individual BA.

PURPOSE: Extensive data support the influence of the upper airway on lower airway inflammation and pathophysiology in allergic disease. However, few studies have focused on allergic inflammation in the nose after an isolated lower airway allergen challenge, a situation that can exist clinically when human subjects breathe primarily through the mouth, as occurs when nasally congested. This study used a mouse model to investigate whether upper airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness were induced by an isolated lower airway allergen challenge. METHODS: BALB/c mice were sensitized by systemic intraperitoneal injection of ovalbumin/saline and challenged with intratracheal ovalbumin/saline. Inflammation in the nose and lungs was assessed by cytology and histology of nasal tissues and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), while nasal airway resistance and response were measured over 3 days post-challenge. RESULTS: Intratracheal application of an allergen in anaesthetized mice resulted in exclusive deposition in the lower airway. Compared to control animals, ovalbumin-sensitized mice after challenge showed bronchial hyperreactivity and increased IL-5 in the serum BALF, as well as eosinophil infiltration in the lungs. However, nasal histology of the ovalbumin-sensitized mice showed no increase in eosinophil infiltration. The nasal lavage fluid revealed no increase in eosinophils or IL-5, and the nasal airway resistance did not increase after challenge either. CONCLUSIONS: In a mouse allergy model, exclusive allergen challenge of the lower airway can elicit a pulmonary and systemic allergic response, but does not induce upper airway inflammatory or physiological responses.

Chitinase AO-801 is a hydrolase secreted by Arthrobotrys oligospora during nematode feeding, while its role remained elusive. This study analyzed the molecular characteristics of recombinant chitinase of Arthrobotrys oligospora (reAO-801). AO-801 belongs to the typical glycoside hydrolase 18 family with conserved chitinase sequence and tertiary structure of (α/β)8 triose-phosphate isomerase (TIM) barrel. The molecular weight of reAO-801 was 42 kDa. reAO-801 effectively degraded colloidal and powdered chitin, egg lysate, and stage I larval lysate of Caenorhabditis elegans. The activity of reAO-801 reached its peak at 40˚C and pH values between 4-7. Enzyme activity was inhibited by Zn2+, Ca2+, and Fe3+, whereas Mg2+ and K+ potentiated its activity. In addition, urea, sodium dodecyl sulfate, and 2-mercaptoethanol significantly inhibited enzyme activity. reAO-801 showed complete nematicidal activity against C. elegans stage I larvae. reAO-801 broke down the C. elegans egg shells, causing them to die or die prematurely by hatching the eggs. It also invoked degradation of Haemonchus contortus eggs, resulting in apparent changes in the morphological structure. This study demonstrated the cytotoxic effect of reAO-801, which laid the foundation for further dissecting the mechanism of nematode infestation by A. oligospora.
