Objective To evaluate the effects of pelvic autonomic nerve preservation(PANP) on urinary and sexual functions in postoperative patients with radical resection for rectal cancer. Methods The radical resection of rectal cancer was carried out in 256 cases of patients with rectal cancer in our hospital from January 2002 to August 2008.Patients were divided into study group (n=156) with PANP and control group (n=100) without PANP.The preserved functions of automatic micturition, male erection, ejaculation, the change of female orgasm, and local recurrence of tumor were observed in the two groups. Results The preserved functions of urination, male erection, ejaculation and female sexual orgasm in study group were significantly stronger than those in control group (P<0.01),and there Was no significant difference of local recurrence of tumors between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions The radical operation with PANP for rectal cancer can improve postoperative micturition and sexual function, and this method does not increase local tumor recurrence after operation.

Objective To improve the teaching quality of Sex and Reproductive Health for college students. Methods From February 2008 to June 2010,the general elective course of SeX and reproductive health were offered for students from all the majors in Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The lessons were conducted in the form of lectures, group discussions,role-plays and debates. The self-designed questionnaires were respectively given out after the first class and at the end of the last class in order to have an understanding of the rate of the relevant knowledge known by the students and their suggestions. Results The rate of the relevant knowledge known by the students significantly increased. Some suggestions about the educational reform were received through questionnaire and educational feedback. Conclusion The reproductive health service is needed for college students.Group discussions and role-plays are ideal methods for interactive teaching.

Messenger RNA (mRNA) can be modified by more than 100 chemical modifications. Among these modifications, N6-methyladenosine (m⁶A) is one of the most prevalent modifications. During the processes of cells differentiation, embryo development or stress, m⁶A can be modified on key mRNAs and regulate the progress of cells through modulating mRNA metabolism and translation. Other mRNA modifications, including N1-methyladenosine (m¹A), 5-methylcytosine (m⁵C) and pseudouridine, together with m⁶A form the epitranscriptome of mRNA that accurately modulate the mRNA translation. Here we review the types and characteristic of mRNA epigenetic modifications, especially the recent progresses of the function of m⁶A, we also expect the main research direction of m⁶A epigenetic modification in the future.
