1.Bone mineral density change in patients with hyperthyroidism after 131I therapy: a Meta-analysis

Objective To review the influence of 131I therapy on bone mineral density (BMD) in patients with hyperthyroidism.Methods Published articles of prospective randomized controlled study,clinical controlled study or case-control study on BMD change in patients with hyperthyroidism after 131I therapy were selected from PubMed,the Excerpta Media Database (Embase),Cochrane library,Chinese Journal Full-text Database,Wanfang Database,Vip Database and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database.Data from the date of database establishment to October 2015 were all reviewed.The languages were restricted to English and Chinese.Meta-analysis was performed with RevMan 5.3.Results Thirteen trials with a total of 668 hyperthyroidism patients were included.The meta-analysis showed that BMD of the lumbar spine,hip joint,femoral neck and osteocalcin were significantly improved after 131I therapy.The weighted mean difference (WMD) for BMD of the lumbar spine was 0.07 (95% CI:0.04-0.11),P=0.O00 2;that of the hip joint and the femoral neck was 0.13(95% CI:0.09-0.16) and 0.05(95% CI:0.03-0.06),respectively(both P<0.01).The standardized mean difference (SMD) of osteocalcin was-1.20(95% CI:-1.43--0.97) with P<0.01.Furthermore,the improvements were time dependent within the 2 years' follow-up.Conclusions 131I therapy improves the BMD and osteocalcin in patients with hyperthyroidism in a time dependent manner within 2 years' follow-up.
2.Morphological features of the knee joint in healthy Zhuang ethnic group from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China

BACKGROUND: With the increasing number of patients undergoing knee arthroplasty in China, the complications caused by the mismatch of prosthesis with anatomical parameters arouse extensive attentions.OBJECTIVE: To measure the anatomical parameters of the knee joints in healthy Zhuang ethnic group from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, using three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction technology, thus providing reference for the design and placement of the hip prosthesis.METHODS: Sixty-eight individuals, including 30 females and 38 males, were selected from 217 healthy people undergoing CT examination. All data were imported into Mimics 15.0 software used for 3D reconstruction, and then the knee parameters were then measured and analyzed.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: There was no significant difference in the parameters of the bilateral femur and tibia (P > 0.05). The femoral parameters had significant differences between genders (P < 0.05). The width of tibial platform, sagittal length of lateral tibial platform, distance between medial tibial plateau and fibular head, and posterior slope of tibial plateau showed no significant differences between genders (P > 0.05), while there were significant differences in the width of medial/lateral tibial platform, and sagittal length of medial tibial platform between genders (P < 0.05). The sagittal length of medial femoral condyle was negatively correlated with age, and all femoral parameters were positively correlated with height; while only the width of medial and lateral tibial platform were positively correlated with height. To conclude, 3D reconstruction technology is available for research on the morphology of the knee joint in the Zhuang ethnic group from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, which provides references for prosthesis design and research appropriate for the Zhuang ethnic group.
3.Potential applications of beta-elemene in anti-atherosclerosis and anti-restenosis.

It is well known that beta-elemene is a broadly effective antitumor drug. In recent years, many studies suggested that beta-elemene also has potential value in the treatment of atherosclerosis and restenosis. In this paper, the effect of beta-elemene in inhibition of angiogenesis, inhibition of thrombus formation, improvement of hemorheology, protection against oxidative injuries, anti-inflammation and suppression of restenosis after percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) are summarized and reviewed.

4.Characteristics of cortical activation in balance control under different sensory strategies in the elderly

Objective To investigate the balance control abilities and cortical activation characteristics of elderly individuals under different sensory strategies. Methods From January to May,2023,19 healthy young adults and 20 elderly individuals were recruited in Changzhou as control group and experimental group,respectively.Both groups wore functional near-infrared spectroscopy(fNIRS)caps and performed balance control tasks on a balance platform under three different sensory strategies.Test A was 40 seconds of standing on a stable surface with eyes closed,Test B was 40 seconds of standing on an unstable surface with eyes open,and Test C was 40 seconds of standing on an unstable surface with eyes closed.Before and after the tests,both groups performed 40 seconds of standing on a stable surface with eyes open.The overall stability index(OSI)and cortical activation β values of the regions of interest(ROI)were measured and compared between two groups.The ROIs included the left premotor cortex(LPMC),right premotor cortex(RPMC),left sensorimotor cortex(LSMC),right sensorimotor cortex(RSMC),left prefrontal cortex(LPFC)and right prefrontal cortex(RPFC). Results There was no significant difference in OSI and β values of each ROI in Tests A and B between two groups(P>0.05).In Test C,there was a lower OSI in the experimental group(Z=-2.056,P<0.05),and there were signifi-cant differences in the β values of RSMC(t=2.623,PFDR<0.05),LPMC(Z=-2.360,PFDR<0.05)and LPFC(t=3.202,PFDR<0.05)between two groups. Conclusion Elderly individuals experience a decline in balance control abilities,accompanied by increased activation in related brain regions,when both vision and proprioception are restricted.
