Objective To investigate the protective effect of GSH on lung injury in rats with severe acute pancreatitis(SAP) and investigate the mechanism of severe acute pancreatitis associated lung injury. Methods Fifty-four Spragwe Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups: control group, model(SAP)group and herbal group. Rats in model group and herbal group were induced pancreatitis by retrograde injection of 5% sodium taurocholate into the pancreatobiliary duct. Animals were killed at 3h, 6h, 12h after injection. The serum amylase was examined at 3h, 6h, 12h after injection. Pulmonary tissue fluid content was measured. The expression of pulmonary TNF-α mRNA and LIF mRNA was detected by semi-quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results The serum level of amylase was lowered significantly in herbal group in comparision with that in model group (P<0.05) and pulmonary tissue fluid content in herbal group was reduced compared with model group (P<0.05). Similarly, the level of pulmonary TNF-α mRNA and LIF mRNA expressions was both significantly reduced in herbal group compared with model group (P<0.05). LIF mRNA was not examined in normal control group. Conclusion Treatment with GSH can prevent lung injury of rats with SAP.

Objective To investigate the effect of norcantharidin on growth inhibition and induction of apoptosis of human rectal cancer Colo 320 cells. Methods Norcantharidin (NCTD) in different concentrations were added to rectal cancer Colo 320 cells. Morphological characteristics of apoptosis were observed using the light microscope and transmission electron microscope. The expressions of Bag-1 and Bcl-2 proteins were tested by Western blotting. The growth inhibition of Colo 320 cells on the cell cycle was observed by flow cytometry. Results The apoptosis morphological changes of Colo 320 cells were observed by the light microscope and transmission electron microscopy. Flow cytometry analysis showed that the cell count of G2/M phase in experimental group was higher than that in control group ( <0.05) but the cell counts of G0/G1 and S phases have decreased in experimental group after treatment with NCTD at the concentrations of 5μg/mL, 10μg/mL and 20 μg/mL, and presented dosage dependence relations. The expressions of Bag-1 and Bcl-2 proteins have decreased. Conclusion Norcantharidin has inhibitory effect on rectal cancer Colo 320 cells, and the effect may be related to the cell cycle arrest and apoptosis.

OBJECTIVETo investigate infection-related mortality (IRM) after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in patients with refractory/relapse acute leukemia.
METHODSWe conducted a retrospective analysis of 127 patients with refractory/relapse acute leukemia and investigated the incidence, causes and risk factors of IRM.
RESULTSSixty-seven of the patients died after the transplantation. The 5-year overall survival and disease-free survival was (35.2∓5.3)% and (30.8∓5.6)% among these patients, respectively. IRM occurred in 28.3% (36/127) of the patients. Multivariate analysis showed that grade II-IV acute graft-versus-host diseases (aGVDH, P=0.049, OR=3.017) and post-transplant invasive fungal infection (P=0.032, OR=3.223) were independent risk factors of IRM.
CONCLUSIONAs a common cause of transplant-related mortality, IRM is more frequent in cases of refractory/relapse acute leukemia than in cases with a standard risk profile, and effective prophylaxis and treatment of severe GVHD remain currently the primary measures for reducing post-transplant IRM.
