1.Importance of secondary exploitation for Chinese materia medica in traditional Chinese medicine field
Chinese Traditional and Herbal Drugs 1994;0(07):-
To explore the Chinese materia medica (CMM) for the second time has been attached increasingly importance in recent years. The author discusses the importance of the secondary exploitation to the development of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). At the same time, the author analyzes the current situation of TCM, and points out that the advantages and disadvantages of TCM. They are complicated with each other, and this complicated situations have brought about the difficulties of development of TCM. So the author brings forward that the secondary exploitation for CMM is a positive approach to solve the current problems, for it not only adapts to the complexion of exploring the new drug, but also keeps inherent characteristic of TCM, and aims at the disadvantages of the traditional techniques of TCM. In addition, the author recounts the method of secondary exploitation for CMM from choosing the object, deepening the base research to reforming the techniques. In the end, the author tables some proposals for the secondary exploitation for CMM.

Antimicrobial peptides ( AMPs) are a kind of micromolecular peptides with antibacterial , antivirus and anti-tumor activities.Unlike conventional antibiotics , acquisition of resistance by a sensitive microbial strain against AMPs is surprisingly improbable .AMPs are not widely used clinically due to their toxicity , susceptibility to proteolysis and high manufacturing cost .Researchers have obtained some AMPs with high activity and low toxicity by structure modifications . The molecular design of AMPs as well as their development in the future are reviewed .

Objective To investigate the activation of apoptotic genes of the brain with hypoxia- ischemia (HI) in newborn SD rats, and MRI changes and memory and learning ability in adulthood. Methods HI was induced by right carotid artery ligation followed by 2.5 h of hypoxia (6% O2) on 3-day-old SD rats (n=36). Control pups were sham-operated (n = 27). Right brain hemisphere was collected at 12 h and 7 d after HI and subjected to an apoptosis Oligo GEArrayR. MRI and Morris water maze test were performed on both groups at 42 and 44 days old, respectively. Results Comparing to 12 h after HI, up-regulated apoptotic genes included TNF, Caspase and pro-apoptotit genes of Bcl2 families, whereas the anti-apoptotic genes of Bcl2 family were down-regulated at 7 d after HI. The MRI assessment of the rats in HI group demonstrated that the area of the right cerebra l cortex was significantly smaller than the left side and control [periventricular layer: (23.5±3.6) mm2 vs (33.0±4.3) mm2, (34.5±3.9) mm2; hippocampus layer: (18.9±4.4) mm2 vs (29.1±5.0) mm2,(30.8±4.5) mm2, both P<0.01]. During the navigation trial, the HI rats demonstrated longer escape latency (4th day: (52.7±35.9) vs (17.8±8. 9) s, P<0.01). HI rats passed the platform less times than the control ones (T= 292.5, P<0.05) in space probe trial. Conclusions The activation of apoptotic genes induced by HI brain injury remains until 7 days later, involving intrinsic and extrinsic apoptotic pathway. The apoptosis of neural cells may lead to poor development of the cortex and impair the memory and learning ability in the adult rats after neonatal hypoxia- ischemia injury.

Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2015;35(6):619-622
Mai is the important concept in TCM and this term has been found in the early classic work of TCM. With the development and perfection of TCM theory, the original meaning of mai is "blood vessels entirely distrusted in the body". In five dynasties, the meaning of it was supplemented as "distribution of qi and blood in five zang and six fu organs to the four extremities", in which, not only blood but also qi has been included. With the constant understanding on mai, qi and blood, the unique concept of meridian and collateral is gradually generated. In terms of the modern study on the original meaning of mai and the academic evolution of meridian and collateral, it is discovered that qi is predominated and distributed in meridian and collateral as compared with blood. It is very significant to study the original meaning and academic evolution of mai, as well as the origin of the concept of meridian and collateral and to provide the reference support for the terminology standardization and basic study.

Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology 2011;31(1):40-43
Objective To investigate the effects of femoral nerve block combined with celecoxib on postoperative analgesia in elderly patients with hip fracture. Methods Two hundreds ASA -Ⅲ patients aged 65-89 yrweighing 35-90 kg undergoing hip fracture surgery were randomly divided into 4 groups ( n = 50 each):control group (group Ⅰ ), femoral nerve block group ( group Ⅱ ), celecoxib group (group Ⅲ ) and femoral nerve block +celecoxib group (group Ⅳ ). Operations were performed under combined spinal-epidural anesthesia. Groups Ⅲand Ⅳ were given oral celecoxib 400 mg at 1 h before operation, and 200 mg at 1 and 2 days after operation twice a day. Groups Ⅰ and Ⅲ received iv injection of sufentanil 0.06 μg/kg before the patients were placed in the position, while in groups Ⅱ and Ⅳ femoral nerve block was performed using a nerve stimulation with 20 ml of 0.5%ropivacaine and 10 min later the patients were placed in the position. All the patients received postoperative patient-controlled intravenous analgesia with sufentanil to maintain visual analogue scale score ≤ 3. The condition of satisfactory analgesia and sufentanil consumption within 24, 48 and 72 h were recorded. The coagulation function was measured on the day of admission to the hospital, at 1 day before operation and at 4 days after operation. Cardiac troponin Ⅰ (cTnI) concentrations were measured before operation, at the end of operation and at 1 day after operation. Postoperative complications was observed and recorded. Results Compared with group Ⅰ , the consumption of sufentanil was significantly reduced during each period in group Ⅳ ( P < 0.01 ). Compared with group Ⅱ , the consumption of sufentanil was significantly reduced within 48 and 72 h after operation (P < 0.05), while no significant change was found within 24 h after operation in group Ⅳ ( P > 0.05). Compared with group Ⅲ , the consumption of sufentanil was significantly reduced within 24 h after operation ( P < 0.05 ), while no significant change was found within 48 and 72 h in group Ⅳ ( P > 0.05). The level of satisfactory analgesia was significantly higher in group Ⅳ than in the other three groups, and in groups Ⅱ and Ⅲ than in group Ⅰ ( P < 0.05). The 4 groups were comparable with respect to the increased rate of cTnI concentrations at the end of operation and after operation, and perioperative blood coagulation. No postoperative complications were found in the 4 groups. Conclusion Femoral nerve block combined with celecoxib can reduce postoperative opioid consumption and enhance postoperative analgesia in elderly patients with hip fracture.
