Chinese Journal of Hepatobiliary Surgery 2009;15(7):506-508
Objective To investigate the technique and clinic value of non-operation management for ERCP-related peripancreatic and retroperitoneal abscess. Methods Five patients with post-ERCP peripancreatic and retroperitoneal abscess were reviewed. Guided by ultrasonic or CT, all the 5 pa-tients underwent puncture and the drainage tube was disposed to the lowest place of abscess. Non-op-eration managements for patients also included the use of anti-inflammatory drugs and enzyme activity inhibition drugs. Results All patients responded to the draining treatment and discharged from hospi-tal after complete recovery. There was no conversion to surgical intervention. Mean draining duration was 52. 4(20-90)d and average hospital stay was 91.8(35-165)d. Conclusion Puncture and drainage management is an effective and safe approach for post-ERCP peripancreatic and retroperitoneal ab-scess. It has advantages of less trauma, less pain, fast recovery and low rate of complications. Punc-ture point should be situated at the bottom or lowest position of abscess and drainage can achieve the best results.

Reuse of waste oil in cooking has been the social concern for long time, but until now there is no reliable method to identify the gutter oil.In this work, based on the generation of long-chain aliphatic aldehydes in the refinement of gutter oil, gutter oil and adulterate cooking oil were identified by determining hexanal, heptanal, octanal, nonanal and decanal in oil sample with high perfomance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method using O-(3-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)propyl)hydroxylamine as the fluorescent derivative reagent. At first, 10 μL of oil sample was dissolved in 200 μL of isopropanol, then reacted with O-(3-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)propyl)hydroxylamine to form the stable derivatives, extracted with acetonitrile and injected into HPLC for analysis. The derivatives were separated on a C18 column within 15 min with ACN-H2O (90∶10, V/V) as mobile phase. The fluorescence detector was set at λex/λem=292 nm/348 nm.The linear range of 5 kinds of long-chain aliphatic aldehydes was 0.01-1.00 μmol/L with limit of detection (LOD, S/N=3) of 0.05-0.10 nmol/L, and the spiked recoveries were 95.6%-101.4%.The results showed that the edible oils obtained from supermarket almost had no hexanal, heptanal, octanal, nonanal, decanal, but these aldehydes increased significantly in gutter oil. Thus the 5 kinds of long-chain aldehydes could be used as the indictor of gutter oil.Taking the advantage of good specificity, higher sensitivity, good accuracy and simplicity, the method was suitable for the rapid identification of gutter oil.

A combination technique of LC/ESR, LC/MS and spin trapping was used to identify and characterize the carbon-centered free radicals formed from lipoxygenase-catalyzed peroxidation of dihomo-γ-linolenic acid(DGLA). The spin trap, α-[4-pyridyl-1-oxide]-N-tert-butyl nitrone(POBN), could react with short-lived carbon-centered radicals to form relatively stable adducts. Based on the same retention time of POBN radical adduct in LC/UV/ESR and LC/MS, molecular weight of adduct could be confirmed and the structure of adduct could be confirmed by their LC/MS2 fragment pattern. The results showed that free radicals formed in lipoxygenase-catalyzed peroxidation of DGLA, including ~·C_7H_(13)O_2, ~·C_(10)H_(17)O_2 and ~·C_5H_(11), all stemmed from β-scission of DGLA alkoxyl radicals(8-, 11-, 15-LO~·). The results were helpful for further study of biological activities of these radicals in vivo.

OBJECTIVETo establish a rapid determination method with gas chromatography-mass spectrometer (GC-MS) for thiodiglycolic acid (TDGA), a vinyl chloride (VCM) biomarker.
METHODSA high- sensitivity determination method was established using a moderate methyl esterification instead of methyl esterification of highly toxic diazo reaction.
RESULTSThe standard curve regression linear equation of the method was: y=8460.5x-4758.2, the linear coefficient was 0.999 7, the minimum quantity concentration was 2.0 µg/L, the range of precision value was 0.81%-2.38%, and the average recovery of standard addition was 99.0%-102.9%.
CONCLUSIONThis method reduces the risk of traditional methyl esterification, improves the determination sensitivity compared with the GC-FPD method, and meets the determination requirement of TDGA.

Objective To explore the effects of lead acetate on free radicals and lipid peroxidation in the cerebral cor?tex, cerebellum, and hippocampus in rat brains. Methods SD rats (n=48), who were just weaned, were randomly divided in?to 4 groups base on their weight. Then the rats were fed with lead acetate in drinking water at the final concentrations of 0 mg/L (deionized water), 200 mg/L, 400 mg/L, 800 mg/L respectively. Blood lead level as well as the hydroxyl free radical inhibiting activity, the levels of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in cerebral cortex, cerebellum, and hippocam?pus were measured 60 days after lead contamination in water. Results Upon lead exposure, blood lead levels increased sig?nificantly as compared with the control. The hydroxyl free radical inhibiting activity in cerebral cortex, cerebellum, and hip?pocampus decreased significantly in a dose dependent manner of lead(P < 0.05). And they all correlated negatively with blood lead level (r=-0.505,-0.414,-0.448, P<0.05). By contrast, blood lead level was positively correlated with H2O2 and MDA in these brain tissues (r=0.301, 0.411, 0.378, and 0.404, 0.324, 0.510,P < 0.05). Conclusion Lead exposure can lead to lipid peroxidation of rat brain tissues through inducing free radicals.
