Objective To investigate the effect of whole-body irradiation with low-dose γ-rays on the central nervous system of mice.Methods Fifty C57 mice were randomly divided into 3 groups and treated with 0,0.5,1 Gy whole-body irradiation,respectively.24 or 48 h after irradiation,brain tissue of mice was resected and homogenated.The levels of amino acid neurotransmitter,including Glu,Asp,GABA and Gly in brain homogenate were measured by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).Results Compared to the brain tissue of untreated mice,the contents of Glu and Asp at 0.5 and 1 Gy (t=-4.080,-3.935,-4.416,-3.630,-4.831, - 4.656,P ＜0.05) in mice brain tissue significantly increased at 24 h at 1 Gy and 48 h.However,the contents of Glu and Asp had no obvious changes in mice brain tissue 24 h after 1 Gy of irradiation. The contents of GABA and Gly had no difference between irradiated groups and untreated control group. Conclusions Short-term whole-body irradiation with low-dose γ-rays induces slight stimulation effect on the central nervous system of mice.

Objective To investigate changes of endothelin-1(ET-1) and endothelin-converting enzyme (ECE) in different time intervals after autograft vein implantation. Methods A model of autogenous vein graft was established by interposition of the jugular vein into abdominal aorta in 80 Wistar rats. RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry were employed to test mRNA and protein level of ECE, ET-1 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). Results Positive PCNA appeared at 6 hours after transplantation, with time reaching a peak at 1 to 2 week. ECE mRNA increased with time reaching a peak after 1-2 weeks and stabilizing around 8 weeks. ET-1 expression underwent similar tendence with ECE, reaching a peak after 1-2 weeks and stabilizing at 8 weeks at the protein level. Expression of ET-1 and ECE were closely related by the time pattern after vein autograft (r=0.975). Conclusions The process of intimal hyperplasia in its occurrence and pattern of change are related with dynamics of ET-1 and ECE. ECE may lead to intimal hyperplasia of the autografted vein through a passway of ECE to ET-1 to SMC.

Objective To sum up our experience in the diagnosis and management of acute superior mesenteric venous thrombosis (SMVT). Methods We retrospectively reviewed 41 patients treated for acute SMVT admitted in our hospital from Jan 1978 to Aug 2003. Before 1995 (group Ⅰ), a surgery was preformed in patients with suspected acute SMVT. Since Jan 1995 (Group Ⅱ), aggressive medical therapy was immediately delivered, and the patients were subjected to laparatomy with suspected peritonity. Results There were 13 cases in group Ⅰ, and 28 in group Ⅱ. Mortality in group Ⅰ was 38.5%, and that in group Ⅱ was 10.7% (P

Objective To analyze the reliability and reproducibility of three different classification systems of Tile,Young Burgess and AO in pelvic fracture.Methods One hundred cases of pelvic fractures conforming to the inclusion standard and with intact imaging data were selected and classified according to these 3 classification methods by the orthopedic surgeons.The retyping was performed at 8 weeks after disorganizing the order.Then reliability and reproducibility analysis was performed by using the Kappa values and typing consistency.Results The reliability Kappa values during the two periods before and after the Tile classification were 0.743 and 0.745 respectively,and the reproducibility Kappa value was 0.771;the reliability Kappa values during the two periods before and after the Young-Burgess classification were 0.587 and 0.590 respectively,and the reproducibility Kappa value was 0.691;the reliability of Kappa values during the two periods before and after the OA classification were 0.402 and 0.406 respectively,and the reproducibility Kappa value was 0.498.Conclusion the Tile classification has better reliability and reproducibility than the other two classifications in pelvic fracture,which is easy to master and apply.

Objective To evaluate the evidence and recommendations of the relevant clinical practice guidelines for the prevention and treatment of stroke published in the last five years. Methods The stroke and guideline-related key words and free words domestic computer retrieval platforms(China biomedical literature database,CNKI,and Yimaitong etc.),as well as foreign platforms(PubMed,NGC,GIN,etc.) were retrieved.The retrieval time limit ranged from January 2012 to May 2017.Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation Ⅱ(AGREE Ⅱ)was used to assess the quality of the guidelines. Results A total of 9 490 documents were retrieved preliminarily and finally 16 articles were included. The average scoring rates of the 16 guidelines in the 6 fields of AGREE Ⅱ,including the scope and purpose,participants,rigor of the formulation,clarity of expression,applicability,and independence of the editors were 66.3%, 27.4%,23.0%,53.9%,18.8%,and 0%,respectively.The different guidelines all recommend that internal endarterectomy or carotid balloon dilatation and carotid artery stenting are used to extracranial carotid stenosis,while the treatment of vertebral artery stenting is recommended for extracranial vertebral artery stenosis.However,the intravascular interventional therapy is not recommended for intracranial arterial stenosis.The perioperative period of ischemic stroke intravascular intervention need to pay attention to the application of anti-platelet aggregation,anticoagulation,blood pressure,blood glucose,blood lipid management,and postoperative monitoring. For postoperative stent restenosis,especially after vertebral artery stenting,the guidelines recommend using drug-eluting stents,however,the dosage of heparin in intraoperative anticoagulation is still controversial.The intracranial aneurysm guidelines are more recommended for interventional therapy.The cerebral hemorrhage in different regions is recommended for different surgical procedures. Conclusions The guidelines in this field can reflect the key problems in clinical practice and keep up with the international concept.However,the quality of the methodology of the guidelines development needs to be improved. Some of them need to be updated and the recommendations should refer more evidence of the Chinese population.

This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) in patients with severe/critical coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). In this retrospective study, data were collected from 662 patients with severe/critical COVID-19 who were admitted to a designated hospital to treat patients with severe COVID-19 in Wuhan before March 20, 2020. All patients were divided into an exposed group (CHM users) and a control group (non-users). After propensity score matching in a 1:1 ratio, 156 CHM users were matched by propensity score to 156 non-users. No significant differences in seven baseline clinical variables were found between the two groups of patients. All-cause mortality was reported in 13 CHM users who died and 36 non-users who died. After multivariate adjustment, the mortality risk of CHM users was reduced by 82.2% (odds ratio 0.178, 95% CI 0.076-0.418; P < 0.001) compared with the non-users. Secondly, age (odds ratio 1.053, 95% CI 1.023-1.084; P < 0.001) and the proportion of severe/critical patients (odds ratio 0.063, 95% CI 0.028-0.143; P < 0.001) were the risk factors of mortality. These results show that the use of CHM may reduce the mortality of patients with severe/critical COVID-19.
