1. The biological characteristics of a highly brain metastatic lung cancer sub-clone and the significance of expression of VEGF and MMP-9
Tumor 2007;27(8):595-598
Objective: To investigate the biological characteristics and cytokine expression of a highly brain metastatic lung cancer sub-clone to partly reveal the mechanism of brain metastasis of lung cancer. Methods: Through repeated injection of PC14 cells into nude mice, we have established a highly brain metastatic sub-clone of a human lung cancer cell line named PC14/B. The in vitro metastasis-related behaviors of PC14/B cells, such as adhesion to extracellular matrix (ECM), migration, and invasion were determined and compared with primary PC14 cells and A549 cells without brain metastasis. Vascular epithelial growth factor (VEGF) and matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) expressions in the three cell lines were measured by immunohistochemical staining. Results: The screened PC14/B cells had enhanced activities of adhesion, migration, and invasion and increased expression of VEGF and MMP-9 compared with PC14 and A549 cells (P <0.05), whereas the difference was not significant between PC14 and A549 cells. Conclusion: The expressions of VEGF and MMP-9 increase the invasion activity of lung cancer cells and promote brain metastasis, which partly explained the mechanism of brain metastasis of lung cancer.

China Pharmacy 2001;0(10):-
OBJECTIVE: To study the influence of cyclosporine and tacrolimus on self-rated health in kidney transplantation patients with or without post-transplantation diabetes mellitus (PTDM). METHODS: Outpatients with kidney transplantation were divided into group with PTDM, group without PTDM, cyclosporine group and tacrolimus group according to mainly used immunosuppressant and patients with or without PTDM. Self-rated Health Measurement Scale (SRHMS) was applied for investigation. RESULTS: The level of physical health, psychological health and social health of kidney transplantation patients with PTDM were markedly lower than patients without PTDM (P

Chinese Journal of Hospital Administration 1996;0(12):-
Objective To provide decision-making information for the spread of techniques that improve the quality of neonates. Methods A systematic study was made of the political, technical, economic and social viability of neonatal disease screening in China by means of economic and policy evaluation, sociological analysis, and statistical analysis. Results Neonatal disease screening was conducted in 29 provinces throughout the country. However, there was a great difference between the provinces in screening coverage. In order to strengthen control, 16 provinces issued methods or regulations concerning neonatal disease screening. Since the Ministry of Health did not issue relevant control methods that would standardize the responsibilities of the organizations undertaking the screening, problems affecting the safety and effectiveness of neonatal disease screening became increasingly prominent. Conclusion It is necessary and viable to conduct neonatal disease screening in China. But macro control of the work by the government needs to be reinforced. The Ministry of Health ought to issue as soon as possible methods for controlling neonatal disease screening and relevant technical criteria. At the same time publicity of the work needs to be strengthened in society so as to give it impetus throughout the country.

China Pharmacy 1991;0(01):-
OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the therapeutic effects of Somatostatin,Octreotide and growth hormone for severe acute pancreatitis(SAP).METHODS:39 patients with SAP were divided into two groups. The treatment group including 21 patients admitted from July,1993 to November,2001 received traditional therapy in combination with Somatostatin,Octreotide or growth hormone;the control group including 18 patients admitted from October,1991 to March,1995 received only traditional therapy. The changes in the APACHE Ⅱ on the first day, third day and seventh day after treatment, the duration of hospital stay, the incidence of complications, curative rate, mortality, the days for serum amylase restoration and the duration of improvement of main symptoms were compared between two groups.RESULTS:Somatostatin,Octreotide and growth hormone could reduce the occurence of complications, decrease the mortality and shorten the duration of hospital stay, days for serum amylase restoration and duration of improvement of main symptoms.CONCLUSION:It is suggested that Somatostatin,Octreotide and growth hormone may be the effective drugs for treating the patients with SAP.
