Objective To assess the clinical value of high-frequency electrocautery in the treatment of massive hemorrhage of presacral venous plexus. Methods The clinical data of 8 patients with presacral venous hemorrhage treated with high-frequency electrocautery from February 2005 to March 2008 were analyzed. Once the presacral venous hemorrhage happened, the bleeding site was pressed with a gauze or finger and the accumulated blood was aspirated. Then, while simultaneously withdrawing the gauze or finger over the bleeding sites, high-frequency electrocautery was applied with a power of 80-100 W to coagulate all the bleeding sites. Results High-frequency electrocautery was used to stop bleeding in the 8 patients, and no electrocautery related complica-tions occurred postoperatively. Conclusions High-frequency electrocautery for massive hemorrhage of presacral venous plexus is simple, efficient and safe.

OBJECTIVEThis preliminary study aims to investigate the effects of titanium and titanium alloy micro-nano-dimensional topography on the biological behavior of osteoblasts in vitro.
METHODSElectrolytic etching (EE) method was used to produce micro-nano dimensional titanium surfaces. The surfaces were observed to determine their effects on the adhesion, proliferation, cell morphology, and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity of osteoblasts.
RESULTSThe surfaces of the titanium and titanium alloy groups exhibited higher adhesion and proliferation of osteoblasts than those of the mechanical group. The titanium surface was covered with a group of cells, a large number of filopodia, and functional particles. The ALP activity of the titanium group was significantly higher than that of the titanium alloy and mechanical groups.
CONCLUSIONEE method in pure titanium and titanium alloy surfaces result in bowl-like nests and nanostructures of different diameters and depths. The diameters of the pure titanium and titanium alloy surfaces range from 30 to 50 μm and 5 to 8 μm, respectively. The former is more conducive to promote the proliferation and differentiation of cells.

Journal of Central South University(Medical Sciences) 2008;33(7):592-595
OBJECTIVE:
To demonstrate the spatial organization of neurons, astrocytes and vessels in rat brain.
METHODS:
Cerebral vascular was shown by vivi-perfusion with ink. Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) immunohistochemistry and nissl's staining were performed on the serial sections of frozen brain tissues.
RESULTS:
Astracytes distributed along the branches of blood vessels, and neurons in the region of the relatively rich blood vessels. Neurons and astrocytes presented regional distribution.
CONCLUSION
This method can well indicate the spatial organization of neurovascular unit, the regional differences in the distribution may be related to physical activities and the corresponding adjustment function.

Thyroid cancer is the one of the most common endocrine tumors. The biological behaviors and prognoses of the thyroid cancer of different histological types remarkably differ. The highly invasive thyroid cancer responds poorly to traditional therapies. Recent research advances in the molecular mechanisms of the pathogenesis of thyroid cancer have revealed the roles of many genetic and epigenetic variations such as gene mutation, abnormal gene amplification, and abnormal gene methylation in the development of thyroid cancer, which provides new insights in the molecular diagnosis, prognosis, and target therapy of the thyroid cancer.
